The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Hi all! Hope everyone's 4th was a good one! We are going to Chili's today since I'm not really in the mood to cook :)

We were on-call for an induction on 6/30/09 between 7:30-noon. We had gotten up early to get ready. My SIL was coming to sit with me while DH went to work before there was no guarantee of us getting in. Around 7 am my phone rang. We got the call to go in:cool1:. I called DSIL who was on the way to come get Luke. Called DM to let her know her much awaited grand-daughter should make her appearance today. And then the most important call was made to my BFF Kathy, to notify all my DFs here. I left the house in a whirlwind showing absolutely no signs of my labor beginning on it's own.

We got to the hospital and were in a private labor room by 8am. The started my petocin around 9am. Things progressed slowly over time...no surprise there...you have all been waiting patiently for my little stubborn one as well.
Keep in mind we arrived at 8am and it is now 12:30 and noone, has checked my cervic to see where I had progressed to. I was told the Dr. had been notified and they were watching my print outs on the monitor, but they did not think I was going to make any more progress until the Dr. arrived and broke my water.

Around 12:30 I asked for my epidural, because contractions were starting to be uncomfortable. (Oh my I did not remember my last Epi being so painful when they inserted it.):scared1:. My thought was this brief pain is worth it, since I won't have to feel labor pain...WRONG! 2:00pm comes and still no Dr. and noone has checked my cervic. I keep being told I am make very slow progress. DH & I are alone watching TV and I told him. Not sure but I think I am feel uncomfortable from cathater, then I thought I shouldn't feel anything down there at all. Nurse came back for a check, and I mentioned small discomfort I was having. She called the anesthesia nurse to check my Epidural and see if I could get more drugs. As the labor nurse and anesthesia nurse were checking pain was increasing quickly. I was told it was to soon and I could not get anymore drugs for a bit. :headache:

Of course change of nurse shifts was at 3pm. My nurse taking her time leaving and trying to wait me out. By 3pm I was in full blown labor, feeling everything  and still waiting on the Dr. (He kept getting called into emergency surgery and was here just not with me) The nurse finally gave in and checked my cervic. She said you are 10 cm. dialated and the head is right there. She told me you are going to have this baby before she got to her car in the parking lot. She was right. In walked to Dr. (who I love and was thrilled he was the one oncall). He strolls in and says, lets have a baby like it is nothing...as I am screaming just a bit. ;) DH might tell this part diff., he likes to pick on me. Dr. sits down and three intense pushes later our little girl was out by 3:24pm weighing 7 lbs 5 oz and 20 inches long. She did great with the apgar scores 8 & 10. Happy tears were all around, she is just beautiful. She has a ton of dark hair (which explains my heartburn), blue eyes. I know eye color can change but my fingers are crossed they stay blue.

Day two- I was on-call once again for a tubal. I could not eat or drink anything from midnight the previous night till I had the procedure. I waited all day and finally got in at 5:10pm. It was quick and painless because my spinal worked out well. I had two of my Dr. assist each other in the surgery because because they change shifts at 5pm. My spinal did wear off quickly in recover, the nurse was surprised. I think I am one of those people who drugs are very hard to effect.

My hospital stay was nice. Most of my brothers and their families came in.
My DM came in with my oldest DB. My only heartache while there was that my Dad's back was just to bad for him to make during my stay. He was so heartbroken and called me in tears, we both cried. We did take the kids over to my parents house on the way home. Dad is now feeling a bit better. He wanted to comes visit yesterday. (please keep him in your prayers that his pain lessens).

Well, I think I have bored you all enough with the details. I am sorry there are no pics attached, but I am protective about that. You know it is killing me not to posts pics of both my pride and joys.

Ron & I both appreciate all of your love and prayers and are so glad with the friendships we have made here. (Kathy, Ron enjoyed calling and finally hearing a voice to go with my stories!)

Ann I am in tears here reading your story. I am sorry your dad couldn't make it to the hospital. Yuck on the epi  My spinal seemed like it took forever. Most likely because I was a little freaked I never had a anesthesia before.:upsidedow

I survived one party and getting ready for the other today. I only forget to put out one thing, the lettuce for the burgers :rolleyes1 It did end up raining or should I say heavy drizzle up to 8:00 last night We did end up going to my favorite spot to see the fireworks You can see 3 towns do their fireworks with no crowds :woohoo:

Todays menu pork shoulder, oven fried chicken cheesy potatoes coleslaw 7 layer salad. for appi potato bites stuffed cherry tomatoes deviled eggs, various chips and dips and lastely cake.

I am off to get the shoulder on the grill and drink massive amounts of coffee to wake up ;)

Ann - I think I can speak for us all, WE are so thankful you allowed us to be a part of Emma's day.:grouphug: All I can say is "OUCH"!!!!:scared: You poor woman, I would have been screaming my bloody head off.

I teared up hearing about your Dad. My Dad was first diagnosed with cancer when I was pregnant with Kyle and couldn't come to the hospital either, we too, cried together on the phone. Glad to hear he's doing better.

I could tell Ron was just beaming when I spoke with him on the phone, very proud Daddy!!:thumbsup2

My stomach is still upset, hoping it's just a virus.:confused3

WFD - Hopefully I'll be grilling the stuff we had planned for yesterday but not looking too good right now.:sad2:

Hope Everyone is well.....

In bed with a horrible head cold. I will thank the woman on the plane who coughed in my direction for an hour before I asked her if she could please cover her mouth & face the window.

Well wishes for all my sick friends on here, get rest!

So I just noticed I have swelling in my left foot and ankle, but no pain. Wondering if it is just fluid from all the IVs. I have a call into the nurse to inquire. Weird because I had no real swelling when pregnant. I was so happy this moring too, because I was able to put on a pair of pre-pregnancy jean shorts...guess I got to excited to soon.

We may go for a ride with the kids. Dinner will most likely be leftovers.

WOW, I'm very impressed!!!!

Come on up the shoulder has a couple more hours to go smell wonderful already. I also cook enough for a small army.:rotfl:

Kath sorry you stomach is giving you problems.

I agree with Kathy...Janice I am impressed...do you deliver or ship!!!!! Yum!
DH told my DM last night that was the best we had eaten in a couple of weeks...I had to agree!!!

Foot swelling update. Nurse had me page the Dr. I spoke to the Dr. and she told me to keep an eye on it for color change, temp. change, or pain in calf. She does not think it is more than swelling from IV but wants me to watch for changes which could mean clotting. If I see changes then I would have to go for Ultrasound, but right now if it is still there in a.m. then to come in and have Dr. look at it. She thinks it sounds benign and would be overkill at this point to have U/S...I agree.

So now that worry is over we are going to go for our ride.

Good morning!

Ann...that story was making me cringe!

Maria...I hope your head feels better soon.

Kat...I hope your stomach feels better soon.

So yesterday we went to a friend's house for a BBQ. Of course, there was a ton of food. Burgers, ribs, hot dogs, baked beans, some other stuff....it was good. I have not had food grilled over charcoal in :confused3 Then we went to sit on the levee to watch the fireworks. :thumbsup2

Today I have nothing planned. I think I'm going to work on sorting photos on my computer. :upsidedow

Have a great day everybody!

Keep us posted, that's nothing to fool around with.

Sounds like fun, so is it hot enough for you down here?;)

It's fine so far...it was hotter at my parent's house yesterday! She sent me an email..."We're both under heat advisories! We have something in common!" :rotfl2:

That's funny!:rotfl: Can't wait for you to get settled and me to get to feeling better so I can bring you some red beans & rice on a Monday.:goodvibes

Ann - :scared1: on the epi !!

My dad was diagnosed 2 months before I fell with the boy and sadly died 9 weeks before he was born.

Im sorry your dad never made the hospital but dont think about what he missed .
Focus on him getting health and sharing in your wee scones life.

Lots more memories to be had.

Care care of you and yours lassies....xx

Awwww :goodvibes My stomach has been a little queasy too...but only after drinking the tap water so I think it's just my body getting used to a different city's tap water. Nothing too serious...

Tomorrow evening I'm going to be in Baton Rouge to go get my little dog! :thumbsup2 This is AFTER unloading the truck in the middle of the day. :scared: I'm going to need a serious infusion of caffeine.

Hey all,

Hope everyone had a nice 4th! Ours was nice and quiet. We saw fireworks on Friday and yesterday we went to a parade and BBQ'd. My nephew was over so him and A had fun. I still have a slight headache...I am thinking it may be a sinus infection.

Gretchen, I apologize for not telling you to have a nice anniversary before now...I am glad that you and Kenny had a nice evening out. Prayers for your Dad!

Ann, My epidural wore off with A too...it was pretty awful but he came out quick too. Not as quick as Emma though! My both feet were swollen from the IVs. They said it would last 2 weeks and sure enough, the 13 and 14th day they went down. I was told to drink lots of water, keep off of them and elevated as much as possible. Give Luke and Emma great big hugs for me. Prayers for your Dad as well.

Kathy and Maria, I hope you feel better!

Kat, I saw that about the crash...how terrible for that young driver.

Hugs to all...I have alot of catching up to do but the baby is fussing now. Tom has left for his trip so its me and the boys. I have to get this mess here cleaned up...

Have a great day!

Thanks for telling us how it went!

That's pretty common with IVs - keep your feet elevated to help it go away quicker. It might take awhile. When I get infusions, my wrist swells up pretty big and I have to hold my arm above my head  Hope some of your shoes fit!!

I just got in from work, we are as ready as we'll be for Day Camp. I have to get some stuff done tonight but that's it. We don't have any food... I will either run to the store and buy some things or drive through someplace later.

Hey Y'all,

A Belated Happy 4th to all!

Sorry I hadn't checked in for a couple of days. Janice, Those aliens must have gotten into my mouth too! Somehow I asked the whole family over for grilling & swimming. Luckily I had my SonIL Josh due the steaks & chicken. Rickie did grilled redfish, boudin & venison sausage. I got started earlier and got the corn, onions, peppers, zucchini on the grill first. It was all yummy, but after a Sangria disaster, there was no time for pics. I made the whole pitcher of red Sangria in my plastic/looks like glass picture. As I lift it to pour a bit to taste, I hear cracking & the handle came off! Sangria flowed everywhere! It took 3 of us about a half hour to get it all cleaned up. But then I really needed that drink, so I made another batch in my iced tea pitcher.

Ann, Wow that is quite a birth-story! I'm sorry your meds didn't work & that your Dad couldn't make it! Emma sounds so beautiful!:lovestruc I can't wait to see pics of her.

Maria, That's sad that you had to tell someone not to cough on you! Ugh and now you're suffering for it! I'm sorry!

Kat, I'm sorry that you are feeling bad. :flower3:

Lauren, for you too! I hope it's not a sinus infection!

Bethany, I'm glad that you are able to laugh at the heat! We all thought it was pretty awful here yesterday. Even getting in the pool didn't help the water temp was at 94!

We went out to lunch after church today. Since it was just Bob, DD & I we went to a nice french rest. I had a Mimosa to start, followed by Shrimp Remoulade. My entree was a rift on Eggs Benedict, but with jumbo lump crabmeat & soft poached eggs. OMG it was so good & I had a glass of champagne with it. We finished with coffee & sharing 3 little profiteroles. Sorry no food porn from that either, it was too small & quiet in there to be snapping pics.
