The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

I have alot to catch up on already and Thomas just started stirring so that is not possible...

Just wanted to say that I am not sure that I can make it for the 13th...it is Tom's bday but I can feel him out.
Nancy, Marisa, Bethany does June 14 work for you?

Lauren, the 14th is fine with me......you have to be with your hubby on his birthday.

Aimee ~ Congratulations!

Welcome King Crab:)

Hi all,

I have not read to catch up, but just wanted to check in.
We had a busy day. DS got has hair cut and looks like a big boy! My brother dropped off two big shopping bags of formula for me. They did this last time for Luke too, and it was such a huge help. Then my cousin was in from Canada and she dropped of a rubbermaid container with 40 new outfits in it for Emma and a Big Brother book for Luke. So sweet...it was like having another baby shower. I was so excited because I had not picked up alot of clothes yet. She bought them from newborn to 24 months so we should be allset for a while.

I am not feeling great bloated and heartburn...we are going to all lay down and watch Night at the Museum. I am DVRing American Idol to watch later.

Night all,
Ann

WOW, you got a ton of stuff, I'm so happy for you! Hope you're feeling better soon.

Can't wait for AI tonight........go Kris! Although I must say that contrary to most opinions here, I've liked Adam as well.....but between the two, gotta go with Kris!:thumbsup2

Also pulling for Gille in DWTS, he's so hot!:worship:

Love to cook, love to post pics on my blog, and other sites.

*drool*

Welcome to the thread!

I know I'm missing a lot of people, but I'm just too bleary eyed to remember anything. Between Timothy's teething, and Katie being sick all night long, I am wasted! I send you all a blanket of pixie dust!

 Can you get someone to hold the fort down long enough for you to grab a nap - or a cocktail?

ABT = Atomic Buffalo Turds(I dont like the name, so I use the initials).

Jalapeno peppers stuffed with all sorts of variations. the one I use

whole seeded, and cored jalapenos with a slice taken out of one side. I then fill with a mixture of cream cheese, roasted garlic, Krab, shredded cheese, Then wrap in bacon, and put on the smoker for 2 hours. The peppers come out mild, and they are a tasty treat. Others put lil smokeys under the bacon, etc, lots of variations.

Oooh, that sounds delicious!!

What great family you have! I know diapers and formula aren't real exciting but sometimes it's the most thoughtful thing you can bring expectant parents!

Here is the recipe from tonight. It was ridiculously easy and tasty.

Chinese Orange Beef
Serves 5

1 slow cooker liner
2 lb cubed beef stew meat
1/2 cup teriyaki sauce
1/2 cup orange marmalade
1 tsp each minced garlic and fresh ginger
1 red pepper, cut into 1/2 inch thick strips
6 oz snow peas, strings removed
4 scallions, thinly sliced

*I cheated and just bought a bag of frozen stirfry veggies instead of using red pepper and snow peas only

1. line 3 qt or larger crockpot with liner. Add beef, teriyaki sauce, orange marmalade, garlic and ginger. Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours until beef is tender.

2. Turn to high, Stir in pepper strips and snow peas. Cover and cook 10 minutes until veggies are crisp and tender. Top with scallions.

I made brown rice to go under it and served it with eggrolls.

Aimee - That orange beef sounds really good, I'm going to try it!:thumbsup2 What kind of eggrolls did you serve? I can't find any that aren't loaded with fat & calories.

Kingcrab Welcome to from one Illinoisan to another. Great pic's stay around and join the chatter.

We have grilled chicken breast and green beans. A simple dinner but really good.

Aimee Congrats on the loss :cheer2:

DH said the beef had a very "musky orange" flavor :confused3 I think the addition of more veggies and rice helped make it not so rich. I thought it was good!

I used non-healthy eggrolls  They were 3 points each, but full size so worth it for me to have just one. Steamed potstickers would probably be a healthier substitution.

Thanks Aimee, not sure what "musky orange" tastes like....:rotfl2:

I am too sick to catch up. I will catch up later. I am not going to work tomorrow and will go see a doctor be it in office or ER.

Wow! I am all about that orange beef! I may try that next week. Tonight I'm making tacos.

Good Morning!

Quick check in...Andrew's got a half day and I am picking him up for a hair cut so I have to try and get done around here this am before I go.

Dinner will be grilled NY Strips for Tom and I (with Sandy's rub), cheeseburger for A, baked potatoes and I am not sure of the veggie. I may do corn. My guys love corn and we have not had it in a while.

Have a great day! Off to do the treadmill! :thumbsup2

I'm trying a new recipe tonight - Smoked Gouda & Spinach stuffed pork chops. If it's good I'll post. We'll have rice pilaf and corn also.

Have a great day everyone!

Bethany, get well and get yourself to the Dr.

Aimee, congrats on a great first WW week!:cheer2:

Sheryl, did the aide show up?

Stephanie, I really enjoyed Kris this season on AI. I wish him well. I thought the last song last night was just awful for both contestants.

Ellen, hope everyone in your family is doing better since the deployment. Prayers to you all.

Kingcrab, thank you for sharing your pics.

Kat, I do feel a bit better just tired right now. I am having trouble sleeping as the end gets near. I can't wait to put all the new clothes away today, looking at them is getting me so excited.

WFD- DH requested chicken wings out of all the choices I gave him. Not sure of the sides yet.

Psst! I lost 3.2 pounds my first week! I had my first weigh in today :yay::yay:

:worship:You are just amazing! I love getting on the scale and seeing the hard work show up in a great loss. Keep it up

Love to cook, love to post pics on my blog, and other sites.

Can I come for dinner? :rotfl:

Nancy, Marisa, Bethany does June 14 work for you?
:)

That works for me! Where are you driving in from? We can meet anywhere you want, but if I can avoid driving near the city I will. Maybe we can meet up and drive in together!

June 14 = good. :thumbsup2

I am too sick to catch up. I will catch up later. I am not going to work tomorrow and will go see a doctor be it in office or ER.

I hope everything works out at the doctor. Let us know right away!

Tonight is weight watchers. I have not been good, so today starts my new week. I am having my healthy cereal with yogurt for breakfast. I have leftover penne with sauce and two clementines for lunch. My snack is fresh pineapple. So I am prepared, I have to stay on track

I have a funny story. Yesterday I was cutting up a pineapple and Kady wanted some. She took a giant bowl and brought it into the living room to eat while we practiced her spelling words. SHe wasnt paying attention to how much she was eating until her tongue started to hurt.:rotfl2: I dont see her doing that again. All night she kept talking about her tongue

Don't stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck at your checkup!

It looks like the second goo d day in a row :thumbsup2 I think I'll take some pork chops out to grill after my WW meeting.

I called the doctor to see if I could go in today, and they have no appointments. I could go in as a walk-in, and be screened and then they will see if they can fit me in, or I could go to the ER. The receptionist recommended the screening at their office despite having people already waiting outside for an hour or more. I don't know what to do. It hurts so bad to cough, and it feels like there is junk in my lungs, I can feel it tickle when I breathe and move. :sad1: My whole body aches too...almost feels numb...I can't really describe it. :confused3

June 14 may be Father's Day...is this an issue?
