The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

It is hard with Andrew now since he could eat an entire meal a half hour after he gets done with one…

I hate to tell you this but that may not change any time soon. :scared: Most boys get to a certain age and they seem to get hollow legs and are never full.

Went out one Saturday with my BFF and her middle DS, we got lunch at McDonald's. He had a Big Mac meal, supersized, and a fish sandwich and was whining because he forgot to order some cookies and was still hungry. She goes through that all the time, she has three boys! :scared1:

I love hearing everyone’s food nicknames for the kids…I guess you all know my two are the Beans (even the dog has Bean in his name)!

I was sitting here thinking about the nicknames. When we were little two of us had what could be considered food names. Mine was Black Eyed Susan, Dsis's was Peaches, one cousin was Ladybug and one, a boy mind you, was Honeybun. :rotfl:

Lauren, thanks for asking about my Dad. He goes back in September again.
He is still sore which at his age is normal. Told him to continue his meds as needed. He is on an anti-inflamatory and Oxycontin for pain. DM has her Thyroid biopsy scheduled for June 3, I will keep you posted on that and probably have questions for you. I asked her if they called it a lump or nodule but she did not remember. I mentioned what you said about goyters.
Glad A is better, hug that baby for me.

I will definitely hug the baby for you...very soon you'll have that precious little girl to give hugs to! :cutie::love:

Glad things seem to be good with Dad...that is some medication he in on. I guess that happens...my Mom takes 2 percosets a day. Any questions about the thyroid, please ask. If I can help I will. You just remimded me...I think I have to go for an ultrasound soon. I think mine is getting bigger.

Janice, glad you are OK. Prayers for Minnie.

Marilyn, My goodness that was alot of food your friend's son ate. Yup, I guess that is what I am in for. So far, Thomas has been called hambone, meatball, bean, etc.

OK, gotta get going or else I'll be all screwed up. Have a great day!

I was just remembering about the watermelon eating contest that my friends 3 boys did last summer. At the time they were 7, 12 and 14. The 14yo won his age group, which was 16 to adult, against two men who were in their 20's. :scared1: They could not believe they got beat by a 14yo. :rotfl:He was in that age group because they only had so many spots per group and they were full in his own.

Vickie, Maria, Aimee & Laura- add me to the list of rotten DIL, well at least in their eyes and they have never even met me. :rotfl: Don't get me started, very long story. It still floors me how stubborn people can be. I just can't imagine ignoring my beautiful DS when you live right next door to him. At least he has one set of sane loveable grandparents who treat him wonderful. Imagine, they do not even know we are expecting again. I could go on and on but I won't.

Are you kidding me??????????????????????????Are you saying that your IL's live next door and they do not know your beautiful little boy?????????????????????? I just don't have the words...I do but I'd be banned.

Minnie my little dog is still feeling bad if she can have some prayers I would appreciate it. She is getting up there in people years. She is eating and going outside just laying around looking pitiful.

Good luck to Alex on his project!

Your poor little puppy :sad1:. It is rough watching long time friends grow older, but remember that older folks like to park it in front of the TV for most of the day, at least the old gals on my family did ;) As long as she is eating and going out that is good.

I was sitting here thinking about the nicknames. When we were little two of us had what could be considered food names. Mine was Black Eyed Susan, Dsis's was Peaches, one cousin was Ladybug and one, a boy mind you, was Honeybun. :rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Lauren-are things better this week with your Mom?

Laura- I loved caili's videos that you posted! She glows!

Ladies, I love those nicknames you all have! Makes me feel like I am not the only food oriented person in this crowd :rotfl2:

I am running all day, Kady's First Communion is tomorrow so I have errands galore along with shopping and some cleaning. Dinner will be whatever I pick up when I shop. BBL

I ended up changing dinner last night. I made tagliatelle primavera.

Tonight will be the menu I said I was making yesterday!

Ann, congratulations to your DH on his new job! I am sorry that your inlaws are such PITAs. I can attest that Laura's are a piece of work. They drive me bonkers sometimes too. Luckily, my inlaws are nice. They have their issues, but we get along pretty well. Mostly because they've learned not to try and mess with me. They might be older, but I am the alpha dog. :rotfl:

I have to go buy a great big latte now. I stayed up way too late last night watching the Celtics lose, and then the Bruins lose. And, of course, in the afternoon, the Red Sox lost. A great day for Boston sports. :headache:

Good morning everyone, yet another rainy day.

Lauren- I don't really watch the show to often, I usually miss it. But the recipes are on the shows website. I think I googled cook yourself thin. I just ordered their cookbook from amazon. It was ten dollars but I couldn't bring myself to pay shipping. The other day Indiana Jones Lego for wii was 15 dollars, so add in the cookbook-free shipping. I got the game for fathers day. My job starts Sunday! I'm really excited to get back to work.

Janice- Good thoughts for your Minnie.

Ann- I prefer going for lunch anyway, then you don't have to drive home after dinner.

Aimee- I always tease my husband that his parents talk to him and not me, I consider myself the lucky one.

Laura- I'm sorry they said that about Liam, he can be extrodinary at whatever he does, it doesn't have to be the same as his dad. Right now he just needs to be an extrodinary kid and nothing else.

Dinner tonight is supposed to be baked manicotti, but I have a ton of work and I don't know if I'll get to it.

Morning Y'all,

I reading this morning & just unable to put it all together in my head. Multi quoting not working well either.

What I did get:

Nan, Buddy went shopping with you & you got 5 outfits! How you manage that!:confused3:thumbsup2

Laura, I'm so sad that Liam had a rough game. It must have been so hard for him, to go out with such excitement from the team & not throw a good game. Super hard for Mom!

Lauren, I agree boys are bottomless pits & I don't think it's going to get better! :confused3:hug:

Janice, I pray that Minnie perks up again!:flower3: It's so hard to watch them age like that. :sad1::sad1:

Alexis is usually sweet potato or rotten potato around here!

I'm sorry that's all I've got! I had a bad evening last night.

I did something totally totally stupid yesterday! I was feeling really good for once, right? So what do I go & do, yeah fall down. I was starting to get dinner together. I opened my big pot drawer on the bottom, went to get something out of fridge, turned around & forgot the drawer was open! Whacked the heck out of my shin & then fell on to the ceramic floor! It was one of those times where everything slows down & I had so much go through my head in those few seconds it took to fall. "Oh no, how could I be so stupid, I am not going to fall down, I'm not going to fall into the drawer! Oh no, I'm going to hit the floor & ruin my recovery!" I had mentally berated myself in those seconds.

I took ibuprofen & starting icing, my shin, neck & back right away. I'm not hurting as bad as I expected, but all the numbness is back & full on.

Update on Courtney, she was doing a little better yesterday with more meds. She is still in a good deal of pain. She is supposed to go home Saturday but her Mom doesn't think that's going to happen. Poor thing the more I learn & hear the worse I feel for her! She has a machine attached to her arm, that constantly bends & straightens it & it hurts like hell. She will be taking that home, wearing it for 6 hrs a day & also have to go to physical therapy! Poor girl graduates from nursing school next Friday. I'm wondering if she'll even be able to make it through the ceremony! I don't know why they scheduled this before graduation. :sad1:

I'm sad for all of you struggling with in-law problems! :grouphug:

Ann, Next door??? :confused3:mad: That is just too sad for words. :sad1:

All of my inlaws have passed, so I can't speak poorly of them, but I did go through it too. I had some good ones & some bad ones. I had 4 of them, cus Bob's parents were both remarried.

Good morning. I've been MIA for a couple days and probably will never be able to catch up so I'm just going to jump in.

I have a question I'm hoping someone can help me with... does anyone have Paula Deen's My First Cookbook? I'm looking for her Monkey Bread recipe. I borrowed the book from the library, but had to take it back and I forgot to write the recipe down first. I'm looking for the one that has 3 cans of biscuits.

WFD? Probably hamburgers, but I haven't gotten to the store yet, so that might change.

Ann -- I don't know how anyone would want to stay out of your beautiful family's life.

Sheryl -- I am so sorry to hear Courtney is having such a difficult recovery. As for you, you need to be more careful! I am glad you weren't seriously hurt. Take it easy today and hopefully, you'll be able to get that good feeling back after some rest.

Nancy and Marisa -- I probably won't get on here tomorrow, so good luck to Kady! Do you have a special menu planned?

Kathy -- How did Kyle make out umpiring?

Lauren -- Liam is starting to get into that boy phase where he is always hungry. I have to really pay attention and make sure he doesn't get too hungry because it really affects his mood.

I'm sorry they said that about Liam, he can be extrodinary at whatever he does, it doesn't have to be the same as his dad.

Liam loves his dad, but believe me, Liam does not aim to be like his father. Liam doesn't think too highly of the military thing where you leave your family behind all the time. Caili had me in tears last night because out of the blue she said, "I really miss Daddy. Things aren't complete when our whole family isn't here."

Janice -- I hope Minnie improves.

Has anyone heard from Bethany recently? I just read that several NYC schools are closed due to swine flu.

I have to get moving along here because I am helping out in Caili's class today. I will BBL. I don't know wfd yet.

Oh...food nicknames -- Liam was Sweet Pea when he was a baby. Caili is sometimes Sweetie Pie, but she is more often Honey Bunny or Snugglebug.

Are you kidding me??????????????????????????Are you saying that your IL's live next door and they do not know your beautiful little boy?????????????????????? I just don't have the words...I do but I'd be banned.

Ann, Next door??? :confused3:mad: That is just too sad for words. :sad1:

Unbelievable isn't it. Just a short summary of situation to much to get into every detail. DH's lovely ex decided the grass was greener after she had gastric bypass and left her family and DH after 20 years. DH's parents did not know how to deal with the divorce and his mother thought he should just focus on his kids (16 & 19 at the time), not himself. A close friend set us up on a blind date and the rest is history. DH did not go looking for love it just happened. It is sad because everyone tells me if she gave me a chance she would love me, but according to my Step-kids everything is my fault. I feel bad for the kids being in the middle, but they have accepted me as part of their lives and we all get along. They can't wait for the new baby and just love Luke. There is alot more that that is it briefly, sometimes people are just to stubborn to apologize. DFIL has admitted saying many hurtful things to my stepkids but won't make piece...their loss.

Sheryl, please take it easy today. That is an order!!
Prayers still for Courtney for a speed recovery with less pain.

Laura, I cant believe your MIL said that about little Liam. Sometimes people are just nuts.

Janice, hope the dog is feeling better.

Zandy...I love monkey bread but do nothave a recipe. That is my SIL thing at family parties.

Who asked about Bethany...she has been posting on the NOLA thread. Sounds busy looking for an apartment and packing.

Going to take DM shopping BBL. Good day all.

Ann

The only thing that keeps me from complaining about my inlaws here is I wouldn't stop. They have told me to my face my husband (their son) is a dissapointment for not graduating college and he needs to find a respectable job, he does have one, just not good enough to them. Mind you, he loves his job and has been supporting us with that job. They have barely spoken to me since I stood up for him. The important thing is my husband and I are on the same side and my little girl thinks her dad hung the moon. I think that somes them up so I won't complain anymore. I have good company in the bad daughter-in-law club.

In the end that's really all that matters, however, nothing excuses that kind of behavior....

Well shopping was a breeze! Buddy complained all the way to the store that all makes and models of shirts should be made according to the same specifications :woohoo: so that he would not need to go through all this shopping :lmao: he got his shirt and another tie and then we went for me. I think I am taking him again! I wanted one outfit and ended up getting 5.

Lucky lady!!!

My favorite recently was when my MIL declared DH extraordinary and said Liam would never measure up.

That's just plain sad.....:headache:

Minnie my little dog is still feeling bad if she can have some prayers I would appreciate it. She is getting up there in people years. She is eating and going outside just laying around looking pitiful.

Prayers for Minnie. How old is she? My girl will be 14 soon and I've noticed a big decline in her overall health over the last year, especially since her stroke.

This is unbelievable!!!!

To all of you that have posted these incredibly sad in-law stories, I applaud you all for being so tolerant and understanding.:grouphug:

I did something totally totally stupid yesterday! I was feeling really good for once, right? So what do I go & do, yeah fall down.

I'm so sorry, hope you're feeling better soon.

I googled it and got quite a few results.:goodvibes

My apologies to anyone I missed, it gets harder and harder each day to keep up here.

WFD - Takeout!!!!

Looking forward to meeting up with my NOLA DIS gang for lunch tomorrow!:cool1:

Kathy -- How did Kyle make out umpiring?

He did great! He had his first confrontation with a coach over a call and he seemed to enjoy it, I guess it feels like payback time for him.:rotfl: He's doing a double header on Sunday. I'd love to go watch him but how do I attend a game and cheer for the umpire?:upsidedow

Ann, It is definitely thier loss! What a shame to chose to not know your own grandchildren. :sad2:

Laura, Bethany has been around. Her school has not closed & she is being stressed out on a regular basis just being there. She is just busy.

Sheryl- You sound alot like me, I usually have bruises on my shins, one from each side of the dishwasher. I sometimes use the racks to dry my bigger pots so I leave it open- and walk into it. I know it sounds painful for Courtney, but if it's not moved atrophy (sp?) could set in and it would be a life long issue. Also, it's better if she's in the hospital longer, she can't have morphine once she's out. This is something I don't think they mention enought in the hospital- depending on her pain pills, make sure she has a stool softener, you don't need to add that to the list of discomforts.

Laura- I call my daughter (and the dog) sweat pea. She's also called monkey, but I usually just call her Em.

Well I'm off to the post office. I almost mailed my house insurance bill then remembered the price of stamps changed. Insurance companies around here look for any reason to drop you so I'm glad I rememberd, don't want it to be late.

Good morning my friends,

Wow, I have missed you all a lot. I have about 15 pages to read back, so I am NOT with it too much yet. I will read back today.

Thank you all so very much for your thoughts and prayers for Jay and our family. It really meant so much!! Well, he is off and our goodbyes have been said. He is in Georgia at Ft. Stewart waiting now for deployment. They think sometime around July 4th. We are slowly getting back to normal - whatever that is. :lmao: But, thanks from the bottom of my heart, please keep 'em coming.

Life is so busy here, I haven't cooked once this week. Most times that would be great - and it is, but - I am ready for some home cooked meals right now. I miss cooking - I know :scared1:.

We have a birthday BBQ to go to tonight. Pulled pork is on the menu so my family will be thrilled. But since I can't eat Pork I will be eating a lot of veggies and hope to stay away from the desserts.

This is graduation weekend so we will be super busy all weekend. Plus Stephanie & Marty have just bought a new house and it needs to be cleaned and painted before they can move in. So that will be the rest of the weekend.

You all have a great weekend and I will try to BBL.

Oh and by the way only 30 more days till I get to see my Main Man.

Ellen, Glad to see you again! Happy Graduation!

Robin, I do bang myself up every single day. Usually my toes, legs & arms! I don't know why the walls & other things in my house just keep moving around on me!

Quick prayer request for Angelina: She has a phone interview in a few minutes at 11:00 and she is sick with either a cold or flu. She sounds awful & feels yucky. Please pray it goes well!

Monkey Bread was just featured on the Pioneer Woman website. The recipe has the three cans of biscuits, and with two stick of butter, it is certainly Paula Deen-like! :rotfl:

I was actually thinking of picking up the ingredients for next weekend because it sounds like an easy treat that Liam and Caili could cook with me and both enjoy (just need to make sure there are no eggs in the biscuits). Here is a link to the recipe:

Sheryl, I am sorry that you fell. Take care of yourself!!
