The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Tonight Liam has a baseball game after skating (I think he will be pitching so wish him luck!)

Good Luck Liam!!!!!!!!!! How did he do?

After that, we are touring a local dairy. I know that sounds really weird, but it's a huge dairy, and it's supposed to be really hands-on. Should be fun.

Our 19th anniversary is on Tuesday, so I'm trying to angle for dinner out on Saturday night to celebrate. Not sure how that will go over. Alan is already dreading how much eating out we will be doing in Disneyland. We'll see. If not, we'll do a cookout at home. Either way, it's all good!

You are planning a wonderful Memorial Day celebration! When the kids were little buddy took us to a friends farm which was a working dairy. It was a lot of fun and the kids enjoyed seeing how their milk was really made. They knew about dairy animals and cows becasue Buddy raised replacements but had never been to a working dairy farm.

Happy Anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Going to Ocean City, MD for the weekend. We always go to Phillips Crab House for their buffet, to the Boardwalk for Dough Roller pizza, fries at Thrashers, Dumsers for milkshakes and ice cream, play games at the Boardwalk arcade, play miniature golf and maybe go to Assateague Island to see the ponies.

What a fun weekend you have planned! I would love the ice cream!

Sorry, not even going to attempt to catch up with all of you.
Glynis- I will be working Memorial day, but so far my plans are to watch the Phineas and Ferb marathon when I get home. If it's nice out we'll probably roast marshmallows. My parents usually take the kiddo to the parade, but that's about it.

Don't try to catch up.

Kady is a Phineas and Ferb fan so a marathon is right up her alley!

The two character breakfasts were chosen for obvious reasons. We normally do Chef Mickey's but the last time we were there it was so loud that Hailey didn't enjoy it.

The server was adequate although she didn't realize as I sat at the time alone for over 10 minutes that we were perhaps ready for the check. And I usually pack snacks for Hailey since she won't eat any of the breakfast foods and when I asked for a spoon (none on the table) she kind of sighed at me and said "I normally bring those at the coffee service. Can you wait?" Anyway, the characters more than made up for it. Stitch was really sweet to Hailey and Pluto was a scream. I don't know if Ohana is going to be in the regular rotation or not, but we liked it ok.

Crystal Palace was great this time.

Marisa loves CM but I am no longer a fan. It was wicked loud and felt very disorganized the last time w were there. 'Ohana breakfast is a favorite of mine, I love Lilo and Stitch! We had a good time each time we had breakfast there, the food is good and the characters are fun! Kady's favorite is Pluto and Stitch is always up to no good so she is in "stitches" the whole time. I cannot believe your server! Not acceptable!

We also got the first seating at CP and were happy. I had never had breakfast there but will make sure it is on our list in the future. I thought that Kady might feel that she had outgrown Tigger and Eeyore but no chance! Between her and her Nana the characters were very busy :rotfl:. Marisa also cracked a little and had a blast!

Gretchen- I HATE Chef Mickey's, it is so loud I don't know how anyone can enjoy it. The cost if so high for the worst food I've had at Disney. Crystal Palace however is one of our favorites. We always go for a late luch, then you get to taste the dinner foods also. I love their spoon bread, I could eat just that. I hoping next time we go we'll be done with characters (they take up to much time) but I think we'll still go to Crystal Palace.

Robin, no one is ever really done with the characters :upsidedow. Well, Marisa and Jeff thought that they could be doenn but they made the mistake of asking me to join them. ;)

I did go to the doctor. I

And he doesn't want me going back to work until Friday. I got a doctor's note for that. :thumbsup2 Another thing is they said it may be environmental, but until there is a change in environment they cannot say for sure.

I hope that today finds you even better! Please rethink work on Friday, I know that you are dedicated but if this thing is not entirely gone you could relapse.

Marisa~ sure we could meet & drive in together, that would be fun... If we all decide NYC I have no problem driving.
I'm glad June 14th is good for everyone!

I can't wait!!!!!!!!

There was also the same at the interval and they had free smoothies (they had a bike set up and by peddling it it crushed the fruit..the boys loved that ) and bottled water all night. The show never finished till 10.15....all for £ 10 !!

My hospital appointment went well.....till I had to step on the scales !!

I really need to get well so I can get back training.

I loved the pics on FB! I was impressed with the peddling smoothie machine :thumbsup2

You do need to get well and you will!

Hey Y'all,

We had a very very nice day today! Kid's church & Alexis graduation was fun. Alexis really enjoyed it. I think she felt special because her Great-Grandpa (Rickie's grandfather) & her "GrandNanny" came to the church. We went out for brunch after.

The aide did not show up last night. We were really po'd. Bob called the agency & gave them quite a earful.
Angelina's interview went well. But they told her they would call June 10th, to let her know if she gets another interview! As I said bureaucracy.

Some good news, Debi had the biopsy. The results are not back, but the dr who did it gave her a hopeful outlook!

I missed that Alexis was graduating :sad2: but am glad that it all went well! :goodvibes Having her special people there must have really made her day!

I don't blame you both for being irritated with the aide. It does sound like you need to call the agency each time there is an issue, both the aide and the agency need to know that you are not pushovers. Both seem to fall back on blaming the other :sad2:

.I had a really big lunch with a girlfriend today....Seared tuna on a bed of arugala, chopped tomato, red onion & artichoke hearts.

Oh, yummmmmmmmmmm!

 Their cheese plate is one of the best values in Epcot, IMO. It's huge, you get bread and grapes with it, and it's like $6. I seriously skipped some of the F&WF booth stuff in that area in favor for that instead. The F&WF samples are just too darn overpriced for me to enjoy much of them :sad2:

I used the DDP credits for the F&W treats as well, they are overpriced if paying OOP. I also like the Patisserie, but you know I only have dessert ;)

Dinner last night was leftovers. We were way too late for me to fix a fresh meal. Tonight is the pork chops adn a salad. I will have a starch for Buddy and a salad on the side.

Bethany, I am glad you went to the doctor and got antibiotics. Bronchitis can turn into pneumonia if it's not treated. I know from experience! I hope you feel better soon.

Sheryl, that is so frustrating about the aide. Hopefully she was telling you the truth and she'll come back and do a good job.

Vickie, your boy is so cute!

I love the patisserie in France too. When we went to Disney with Laura and my parents, we got two of those cheese plates and split them 5 ways between the adults. At least, that was the plan. Once the kids saw the food they ate all the brie and most of the baguette! IIRC I had to go back and buy two more! It is a good deal for the price.

I made the sausage subs last night but did not have time to upload pics yet. John's taking clients to the Red Sox tonight, so I am on my own. I'm testing a recipe I am thinking about making when we are on vacation. It's shrimp in a spicy pineapple honey glaze on sugar cane skewers. I don't know what I am having with it yet--probably just some grilled vegetables.

I am looking forward to the opening episode of So You Think You Can Dance tonight. This is my absolute favorite competition show. All the dancers are so talented, and there is no goofy stuff.

Morning Y'all,

It's the 1st day of summer!! :goodvibes Alexis had decided she was going to swim every single day of the summer. Of course it's cool, cloudy & breezy this morning, the pool temp has dipped. She woke up with her day planned outside and in the pool. Now she's insisting she likes cold pool water!

Bethany, REST!!!!

Aimee, I think I have forgotten to tell you, Congratulations on the weightloss! :cool1: I'm happy that your family has found a place for your Grandfather. Three days off! Yeah! You sure could use a little fun time.

I know how I've missed the cheese tray in the Patisserie. I can't see past the desserts! We always make at least one stop in there, but I can't ever seem to pass up that chocolate cake with the raspberry filling in it.

We love the Ohana breakfast. Bob & I have somehow managed to avoid Chef Mickey's all these years. We peeked in one time & the noise/chaos has made us stay far away!

Ladies, I have to admit I wanted to shove my husband in someone's freezer last night! :rolleyes1 We are skimming through watching the recorded AI finale show last night, so that we'll find out the winner by the time the aide shows up (if). About 9:15 not D, DH says " Oh I think we decided she would come out on her regular night, tomorrow.":mad: WTH, GRRR! I was more than a little annoyed with him.

But woohoo over the winner!!!:cool1: Yeah!! :yay:

I'm doing something with pork chops tonight. Alexis is pushing for princess potatoes, so I might try the Lady & Sons chops.

Kat, Isn't that the recipe you use often? Your guys fav?

I'm in the mood for an Asian or hawaiian chop, but I think Alexis & DH's preference will win out.

Glynis -- I am glad Katie is better. You have a fun weekend planned! The kids have gymnastics Saturday morning, and then we are going to my parents' house for the weekend. We didn't get to celebrate my mom and Becky's birthdays last weekend, so this is their birthday weekend. I don't know what is planned. It is up to them.

Gretchen -- Thanks for the trip report. We have always had good service at Ohana, so I'm sorry that marred your experience. That is our favorite spot for breakfast and the character interaction there is great. We like the patisserie too. Like Aimee said, it is a great value for Disney.

if the potatoes are still good, I forget when I bought them

That is not usually a good sign in my house.

Bethany -- I am glad you went to the doctor, and you better be resting. I know it is a busy time of year, but you don't want to return to work too soon, or you will end up being sick all next week too.

Vickie -- Your boy is so cute!

Sheryl -- I'm glad Alexis had a nice day yesterday. Did the aide show up last night?

Aimee -- Enjoy your weekend off. You deserve a break!!

Good Luck Liam!!!!!!!!!! How did he do?

Thanks. He didn't end up pitching last night, and the team lost again. Liam had a good game though, so he was happy about that. They don't play again until next weekend, and then they have three games in a row, so I am sure Liam will pitch in one of those games.

Lauren -- Have a nice time with your friend today!

Stephanie -- I am really happy for Kris. Your town must be going crazy.

Gretchen -- You asked about airborne...Greg is still trying to get a slot, but it might not start until June. If that is the case, he might be home next week. :yay: I'm trying not to get too excited and I haven't told the kids yet, but I am hoping that happens.

We're having fish tonight, but I won't know the full menu until I see what they have at the market.

I am looking forward to the opening episode of So You Think You Can Dance tonight. This is my absolute favorite competition show. All the dancers are so talented, and there is no goofy stuff.

I love this show too!
Becky, Marisa and I were talking about your eggs last night. We cannot figure out how you can even make an egg look like a gourmet meal!

She is too funny :rotfl:

If the chop you are talking about is the fried chop it is delicious!

I AM taking it easy today. (Hear that, Sheryl?!?)

Tomorrow is a half day for the kids, and I should have a prep period in the middle of that, so really I only have to teach for 2 hours. The rest of the day will be spent sitting. Last time we had the afternoon meeting my friend was sitting across from me and she said I developed a knee-jerk reaction to a single sheet of paper. Every time I looked at it, I instinctively rolled my eyes. Oops! :rolleyes1

So my DH is going through recipes and cookbooks today; we have a bunch that we just don't use and he's tossing/getting rid of some. He showed me one he's getting rid of: a paper describing how to modify recipes for high altitudes. Somehow I DON'T think we will need that in New Orleans! :lmao:

Me too, absolutely my favorite!!!!:thumbsup2

Yep, awesome but not figure friendly.;)

Thanks for the reminder about So You Think You can Dance--need to set the DVR. We're so excited for Kris and his family!:cool1: But of course now there is backlash, saying that Kris shouldn't have won, he's not talented, etc, etc, etc. Geez! Oh well, in a couple days someone else in the entertainment world will have done something incredibly stupid and that's what they'll be talking about.

I'm not sure who mentioned it but my kids are HUGE Phineas and Ferb fans. Guess I know what they'll be doing this weekend. I'm working Sat., Sun, Mon, and Tues. So no break for me! Yippee.

As for WFD, last night was grilled burgers. Tonight (of course while I'm working) Emma has her end of the year soccer banquet so they'll be eating there. Hope everyone is doing well.

Hello Ladies!!

I have tried to read back some. You are a very chatty bunch. :rotfl:

Bethany ~ I am so glad you are feeling better. Please take it easy though or you will be much sicker. Give your body time to heal. Ok sorry - the Momma in me just popped out. ;)

Nancy, Marisa & Kady ~ I love the pictures. What a beautiful little girl!! Nancy, it was so good to put a face with you. You looked just as I had you pictured. Funny huh?

Vicki ~ I loved the pictures of the "boy". What a cutie!! Good luck with your upcoming sugery.

Ann ~ What a wonderful family you have. Such a nice thing for them to do. The "other side" has no idea what they are missing. Their loss!!

Kat ~ I loved the pork chop recipe. I will be trying that one very soon.

Laura ~ good news about Greg. I sure hope he gets to come home for a bit. I have my fingers crossed!

Sheryl ~ I agree about the freezer. :rotfl: I was ready to send Doug there on Monday. I still am not to happy with him. But I guess after 30+ years I had better just buck it up. But not for awhile yet. I am really making him stew. Anyway I hear ya.

I know there are more but I can't remember so please know I think of you all every day and prayers are being said.

Yesterday I went to the zoo with our Preschool here at the Church. OMGosh we had a BALL. There were 16 3&4 year olds and 5 adults. Elizabeth and I were both able to go. It was so much fun watching Ethan (my GS) in awe of all we saw. He loves animals and knows everything about each and every one. We left at 7 am and got home last night at 8 pm. I was dead tired but oh I did have fun.

Thanks for all of your wishes for my little family. Jay is in Georgia at Fort Stewart. He will be ther they say till around July 4th. Then he will head to Iraq. So right now all is good. They are able to talk each day and Ethan and Jay say prayers together every night before bed. This will change once he goes over. But for right now it is as good as it can be. I will keep you posted.

I am headed to Kearney (about 35 miles east) to help paint again. I will be so glad when Marty (SIL) & Stephanie (DD) are moved in and I can get some of my own stuff done. I haven't even thought about vacation yet. Except I did get my ADR's all set. So far that is all of the planning I have done. We are down to 24 days. WooHoo!!

We will be going to decorate graves on Monday. Not the way I like to spend a holiday but I will be glad to do it. My peony bushes are busting so I will take them to use. I am sue the family will be together on either Sat. or Sun. We will probably grill steaks. I'll let you know.

Make it a great day my friends.

WFDT ~ We will probably just grab something on the way out of town so we can get to Kearney. Boring huh?

Laura, Bob was confused & now thinks he told her to come tonight. It must be hard trying not to get your hopes up that Greg will get to come home!

Kat, I sort of realized it wouldn't be light! I mean it's Paula & it's fried pork right!. ;)

Yes Nan, the fried one. When I offered Bob fried or asian, take a wild guess which one he chose. :rolleyes1

Bethany, GOOD! ;)

I gave in & let the child get in the pool while the sun was shining. She lasted all of about 25 minutes, but while in she claimed it was " Aaaah, this is great! This is the life!" :lmao: Gosh she sure keeps me laughing!

Bob called another agency. This person was honest & said that the troubles we were having "Was the nature of the beast", meaning the type of people they have to draw from. She also said that she would also have trouble finding a steady person for a short shift evening work. She said she couldn't offer much hope that she would get anything better. Her suggestion was if the aide we have now totally bails that she could get us some help, but it would be scattered & probably a different person everytime. She said for the surgery & daily assistance she could take care of that. :confused3 So we are just going to wait again tonight to see if she comes or not. Thank God this has happened before my surgery.

Hey All!

Becky & Nancy "So you Think You Can Dance" will be tapping while I'm at the Bruce concert. One of my favorite shows! Anything choreographed by Mia Michaels I think is amazing.

Gretchen, I am opened to any plans...I am happily go solo to F&W & so excited about this trip!!!!!!!! See's chocolates are delicious but I haven't met many chocolates I don't like. Sorry about the PIMS.....I hope they get a better review from our NOLA girls in october:thumbsup2

Steph, I was thinking of you last night...so exciting!!!!! He seems like such a genuine Sweetheart!!

Bethany please keep on resting:sick:
**I could meet Nancy & Marisa in Westchester & then we could drive into NYC together. Lauren could come with me or meet us in Manhattan.

Is anyone getting books together for summer vacation? I have a ton of books I've read & usually send to Lu in Florida but when she reads with this pregnancy she vomits...poor thing~
I'd be happy to send you a list & drop what you want in snail mail.

I'm sure I'll be checking in later...Greg will be tired & go right to bed & I will still be jazzed up from BRUCE!!!!!! Menopause, insomnia & a concert, I'll be up until the wee hours.

Maria, I love to read and I'm not picky. I'd love whatever you to choose to send. Because I've been so busy I haven't read a book since November so I can pretty much guarantee I haven't read anything on your list. But now that I'm sitting in the waiting room while Dad gets his 4 hour treatments, I have more time to read.

I'll send you a check for the postage and ship them back when I'm done. What a sweet offer.

I'd also be interested in any books. I bought several & was planning on holding them until the surgery, but I got bored!

I won't be making ADR's until July but for any F&W folks that may be interested in getting together for dinner I know where we'll be dining at just not set on the dates yet, maybe we can work something out.......JIKO, Citricos, Flying Fish & California Grille. I know for sure Sat Oct 17 will be Flying Fish because we're attending a DIS meet that night at the Beach Club....I'm starting to get really excited!:cool1:

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this stuff but from what I've heard it pretty much is what they said, the nature of the beast.

Just a quick hi ...so noone worries about me not checking in today.

I have not been feeling great lately. The baby is riding high and making me really uncomfortable. I find myself getting winded and out of breathe at the simplest tasks. My DM said she has notice it a couple of weeks ago , but I just started to complain about it so she mentioned it. So things are fine but I am having trouble finding a comfortable position to be in.

WFD- Naan pizzas done on the grill. We may have a salad too.

Please include me if you make decisions tonight:)

Sheryl & & Gretchen, I have 2 boxes & I will split them up & mail them....then you guys could exchange them.

I am drinking a lot. Primarily water but also tea. Maybe Gatorade would be good too; I was unable to eat hardly anything between lunch yesterday and coming home today. I was too tired to sit up to eat. :confused3

Try eating some toast with honey, that is always my favorite and easy thing to make and eat when I am sick.

Not sure what is for dinner tonight. Trying to get caught up here at work and finish packing at home and really don't feel like cooking or dealing with dirty dishes. I will probably just stop for something on the way home, that is if I ever leave! :scared1:

Yesterday I stayed to get all of the confirmations done. To save wear and tear on my printer I sent eveything I was printing to the copier. I finished and went to get them and only three of the 110 I had printed came out, the rest printed in what appears to be Russian! :headache:

Thankfully I am almost packed, just have a few little things left and they are sitting on top of the suitcase.

Of course, but I don't think anything will happen tonight.;) SYTYCD is my only priority tonight.......:dancer:

Maria -- Have fun at the concert!

Sheryl -- I hope the aide shows up. Alexis is SO funny.

Ann -- I remember feeling like you do. You're almost there.

Ellen -- For Greg's first deployment, I set up email accounts for each of the kids so he could send them their own messages. It didn't really work out that time because he didn't have email access regularly, but I know things are much better now. Maybe Jay can send Ethan pictures.

I bought flounder for dinner, so I am pan frying it and making fish tacos. Hopefully, my avocado ripened up some sitting in the hot sun all afternoon.
