The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

Happy Halloween....

David and I bought a big bag of tootsie rolls... David loves them to give out to the kids, and he can eat what is left over...

Tonight is left over bean and ham soup.

last night was pizza, wheat crust, spicy sausage, cheese, onion and green pepper...

Happy Halloween!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Alison - how is Fran feeling? Better I hope.
PIO- I was thinking of you when I planned dinner for tonight. WE are having loaded baked potatoes and I am making a spiced meat, like taco meat to put on top, along with sour cream, steamed broccoli, butter cheese and bacon. Marisa Kady and Erica are joining us (Kady loved loaded potatoes so she is thrilled!) Welby is bringing the girls and she is thawing steak as we speak. I guess she is not impressed and thinks that Buddy will sulk (He would have :lmao:)

Also- I love lentils but never thought of using them for a topping. I have made a red lentil soup but Kady likes a "Madras" lentil meal that I pick up from Costco. It comes in a pouch that you just heat up. She prefers that one to anything I make :confused3
It is going to be a pretty lousy night so I hope the kids still have fun. Buddy is worried he won't be able to be here, he has been waiting for a damp, and today we are getting one. He never misses Halloween with the kids so he is worried.

I have been trying to think of Halloween treats and might make a brownie graveyard cake, pick up some cider donuts, and maybe buy some pumpkin cookies. Of course we have the chocolate bars to hand out, and some mini bars for the house.

Have a great day!

Sounds like a great Ghostly menu for Halloween! I hope you enjoy the potatoes. Thanks for thinking of me! :thumbsup2

Brandi - Would you believe that I've never really tasted Tootsie Rolls???? :faint:

You are a deprived child! Tootsies are awesome! Kady just :faint: everytime I tell her how they used to be. Tootsie Rolls were about 6 inches long and 1/2 in wide and cost about a nickle. Just like Devil Dogs! Yup.............you now know how old I really am! ;)

You know at Halloween you can get the big fat ones? They are about 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long.... Those are the ones David wants.... Back when we had a microwave, he used to heat them about 10 seconds and then eat them...

But now we don't have a microwave, and I have not figured out a way to heat them a little bit beside in the oven and I hate to heat that much space, for a tootsie roll...

No Tootsie Rolls for sale where I grew up. And I never really saw them in Australia; but I understand they are available.

We unscrewed our porch light so we didn't have to worry about cats getting out. In can't believe you don't have tootsie rolls there! They are quite good!

Next time I'm at Costco or at the USA Food store, I'll see if there are some there.

I knew the "name" from somewhere.... Yes, we are on the same vacation soon!

Do you want me to bring you a tootsie roll to Spain?

Since last night was Halloween and the kiddies were coming quickly, we decided to eat left over bean and Ham soup with a salad.

I ate too many of the candies.... But today is a new day!

Dinner tonight is Chipotle and grocery shopping.... so much fun

Thanks Brandi, i will be ok - there will be many other treats in Spain to sample
I must admit I'm a sucker for American candy. But have to 'sample' sparingly as am a diabetic. :(
My wife Alison absolutely loves strawberry red vines & I love Reece's peanut butter cups. Lol
Family & friends want some candy as well, & we plan on buying a box full of stuff at Walmart in Orlando & posting it back to ourselves in the mail :)
Bit concerned with excess luggage. We will be spending 11 days in Disney / Universal after the cruise.
Seeing your many posts on the disboards Brandi, we may have to pick your brain on all things Disney during the cruise.
Regards
Dean

Dean, beside cruising Disney is my passion....

We will have fun talking and sampling foods! Looking forward to meeting you in person... Not long now!

Brandi

Good Morning!

Dean- it is nice to meet you!

I made a huge chicken soup for the guys working in the shed yesterday, and spent the rest of the day :confused3 We had a Church bazaar that I went to, did some grocery shopping, and attended Mass. Basically, my time management once again is called into question ;) Buddy requested roast beef sandwiches so that is what we had. I also bought an apple pie at the bazaar, which was dessert. It was terrible  and I have 4 more that I had ordered in the freezer. Ohoh! It is for a good cause, but I cannot count on them for the Holidays!

Today i am planning on a spoon roast, mushroom gravy and mashed potatoes, and some sort of veg. I am going to use Becky's mom's recipe, it is the bomb!

We were supposed to go to a dinner theater last night. But Fran wasn't up to it. I got the ingredients for spaghetti sauce at the store, and made a big pot. I need to freeze it today.

I have a pork roast in the oven for tonight and I cooked, a Squash, potato, and Carrot soup for meatless Monday!

I will be at the Pentagon all day tomorrow, so wanted to have it ready for when I get home... I will be late, and I have to take the dreaded train/subway to work and home... Ughh, it has been so nice not going...
