The What's for Dinner Thread- June 2012 (recipe index in OP)

Nancy - You bought 5 apple pies from the bazaar??? And they are terrible??? What are you going to do with them? Hope the rest of the bazaar was better.

Brandi - Sounds like you've got at least one Meet on the cruise. Has your cruise group been pretty active in the planning?

Alison - Hope Fran is better. And I hope you're looking after yourself.

Dean - Not sure if you're still lurking or not. But have a great holiday. I hope to see at least one picture of you and Brandi in her TR.

WFDT? Not sure. It's just 7'ish in the morning and I'm having coffee with two slices of honey toast for breakfast. I need to check my freezer and hope to find some fish in there! If so, I might just panfry it for dinner tonight with vegetables.

Our group has been extremely active....

They had to close our thread it was so large and open a second one for us....

We have a ton of events planned and meet and mingle on board!

I am going thru my list of things to do right now... I have way too much to do before I leave! I need to stop working so I can plan vacations!

Brandi - If real life is one long vacation, may we all be able to share in it together! Have fun with your pre-trip checklist. Not long to go.

PIO- the pie sale is an annual fundraiser that the Women's Guild runs to benefit their scholarship fund. A group of people get together and make the pies and then freeze them, unbaked. I ordered 4 because Buddy was there and he kept adding more. Yesterday at the bazaar, I picked them up , but there were a few baked pies for sale and I figured Buddy would enjoy one for dessert. It was not baked through, so the bottom crust was raw, and the top crust was not really cooked through either. The filling was soupy, but that could have been because the pie itself was not cooked properly. The filling was tasty, but there is no way I would serve that. Anyway, I shoved them in the freezer and will bake them when it is just for us, and make my own dessert for the holidays. The cause is a good one. Altogether, they raised 12000 yesterday. Everything is donated, so there are no expenses, all profit.

I'm glad you can see some good in the situation Nancy.

Brandi - Good luck on your packing.

PIO - enjoy your fish if it's there.

We are having corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight. Although I need to get Fran going (we need to pick up some stuff she bought off Craigslist), and I need to be back in an hour and half to start the corned beef!

Allison- if you ever saw one of my apple pies, you would understand :rotfl2: They are that bad!

I love corned beef! Have you tried Glynis' recipe? It has a nice glaze on top and is delicious! During sugaring, I sometimes get a gallon of maple sap and cook the beef and vegetables in that liquid. Holy Freakin Awesome! I don't cook it often though, because Marisa will not touch it, and if I am cooking a St Patrick's Day meal, I stick to a Smoked Shoulder. My Dad insisted that was teh "original" St Pats meat of choice so I do as well :thumbsup2

Well dinner is resting, and I am too ;) Red wine to mellow me and then we eat.

I don't know how you are so active on both Disboards & cruise critic. :)
I never seem to have enough hours in the day.
Can't wait til the vacation
It's our first trip to WDW & have spent tons of time on here researching for our trip

This board is a great place to ask questions also! It is not just "What's for dinner" so feel free to ask away. PIO - just got back from Disneyland and from WDW in one trip!

Alison on here is at DL once a month.

Most everyone here besides me has been the last few years...

(As for being on here, it is easier on the weekends, I disappear during the week since I am working...)

Thanks :). I have only recently discovered cruise critic & can't wait til the TA. I usually only get time on here before work / bedtime & weekends too :)
DW ( also a Alison ) loves Disney & we have been to Hong Kong Disneyland before & can't wait until WDW. I think she is more excited with WDW than the TA cruise.
PIO has been on some other threads (Anzacs) & have chatted before. Wow, a two castle tour in one trip is quite remarkable. It sounds awesome.!
PIO - did you get to visit the new California Grill? We have ressies there , but have heard mixed reviews since it has reopened. I'm thinking of cancelling & booking an ADR for the yachtsman steakhouse, since we will be staying at the Beach Club at the time.
We are doing a split Disney / Universal stay, since it's our first time & we want to experience a 'bit of both'.
I'm looking forward to a month off cooking & enjoying the " food porn " of our various destinations. I plan on taking as many pics as possible, just not sure how to upload pics to the iPad . Lol.

Dean - We did hit the new Cali Grill this trip. We were there with a table of 9; including Alison. We enjoyed our food there. I would say that you'd find mixed reviews for all restaurants. Everyone has different and individual tastes so it's real hard to gauge whether you should go or not solely on reviews. The thing is whether you WANT to go to Cali Grill or not. If your ADR current coincides with a time to see the fireworks, that would be reason enough to keep it.

We stayed 8 nights at BCV and 2 nights a Pacific Royal at UO this trip. It was great; but as the UO experience was right at the end of our trip, we were pretty tired at the UO parks and didn't really want to do very much.

Thanks for the info. Our ADR is for 7:50 pm and should coincide with wishes.
We are also staying at BCV for last 2 nights of our trip in a studio
When we disembark from the ship, we are staying at Hilton Parc Soleil which is about 3 -4 miles from a WDW & is a 1 bedroom apartment with a washing machine, which will be helpful after the cruise. I wanted to stay on site whole trip but can't believe what Disney charges for the deluxes. We ended up renting points with David's vacation rentals.
We are staying 3 nights at UO Portofino Bay resort to explore UO /IOA before heading back to WDW (BCV)
Our last night will be at the MVMCP before flying home on Friday 20th. I'm sure we will get exhausted too :)

Dean- it sounds like you are going to have a wonderful time! I loved MVMCP and I bet that you will as well. I think that PIO is correct in that no mater what restaurant you choose, some will love it, some will detest it, and some just eat the food and move on. I think a lot has to do with the circumstances of the day, if you are there and the staff is on fire, you will have a wonderful experience, it the staff is "off kilter" thins may not be as magical. Like life :thumbsup2

I was shocked at the cost of lodging as well. I have been pricing trips for a while now, and just cannot justify the cost when I factor in spending and airfare.

PLease share some of your trip details here, if you don't mind. I would love that!

Dinner yesterday was actually lunch. I screwed up Buddy's farm account again, and asked Marisa to come fix it for me. She came, so I made a chili soup for lunch and had it again for dinner after class. Buddy had leftover roast beef, and I think he is going to have that again tonight. I am in school til 10 and he is at the farm til after 8 so he will only want a sandwich and cake.

PSA---- if you want to make a quick frosting for cupcakes and you see a marshmallow fluff recipe................do not Nanatize it by combining fluff and canned frosting. :scared: Buddy is eating those cupcakes but I keep thinking I will find him in a sugar coma somewhere, still choking that nasty stuff down.

I'm a little more organised today for dinner; so it might be a proper meal!

WFDT? I've got some snapper out of the freezer which I will crumb; and I'm going to make some home made potato wedges to go with it plus a side serve of coleslaw.

Aside from that, it's a standard Thursday here. Hope life's going well for you.

Evening all...

Dinner tonight was roasted pork tenderloin, applesauce(homemade), roasted broccoli, and butternut squash soup

All of it was super yummy!

It was take-away sushi for dinner tonight. Been a busy day and I really didn't feel like cooking.

tonight is Chipotle Mexican Grill.....

First time eating someone else cooking in about a week! Haha... I almost forgot about the Festival last weekend..

Mmm Mexican chipotle sounds nice.
I had an appointment with the eye surgeon today, so I didn't feel like cooking
We went to Fasta Pasta & I had Minestrone & appetiser sized lasagne which was huge ( yummy tho )
Brother in law's 50th birthday today, so we are having a BBQ :) ( along with a few beverages. Lol)
