The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Needless to say, I wrote the teacher a note asking her to direct any nutrition concerns to me.

Laura, You did the right thing. That would have me fuming too. It is none of their business and they should direct those questions to the parent. Poor Caili...

Hugs and prayers for Sheryl.

I don't normally comment on Laura's posts since we talk in real life, but I have to tell you all that this teacher is driving me CRAZY with her obsession over Caili's lunches! Caili eats plenty of food--GOOD food--she just does not eat a lot at lunch. She eats a huge breakfast, a small lunch, a large dinner, and a couple of healthy snacks. She is so strong, she has incredible muscles. She is NOT too thin, underweight, or undernourished. And you wonder why kids start obsessing over food and getting eating disorders. This teacher needs to BUTT OUT of Caili's lunch box!:mad::mad:

OK, vent over. :rolleyes1

Dinner last night was really good. Chicken milanese topped with arugula, tomato, and parmesean salad:

I'll be back later when I figure out WFD.

Laura Ok I just have to say when they make the lunches they serve in school nutritious then and only then direct the comments to the parents. School lunches are a sore spot with me.

Nancy, you're going to be mad about this, but we had more school drama this morning, this time with Caili. Yesterday, her teacher saw that Caili just had banana bread for lunch and told her she should be bringing something else, like yogurt. Well, first of all, I don't usually send Caili in just with banana bread, but yesterday was an early release day and they cut down on lunch time, so I knew Caili would only have time to eat one thing. I figured she could have a piece of fruit when she got home. Second, Caili doesn't like bringing yogurt to school because even with an ice pack, it gets too warm and tastes gross. Third, what's really wrong with banana bread? They serve waffles and pancakes in the cafeteria sometimes. Anyway, I didn't know about the teacher's comments until this morning when I asked Caili what she wanted me to pack for lunch and she broke down sobbing. :headache: Needless to say, I wrote the teacher a note asking her to direct any nutrition concerns to me.

:mad: The teacher and I would be having a chat. You have way more control than me, I admire that but I would be fuming!

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2 You said it Sister! When she is Caili's Dr then sh can comment on her eating habits, not until! The nutritionist told Marisa that Kady should have 1% milk...this was when she could have milk....which was contrary to her pediatrician's directions. Her concern? Obesity in children. Kady was not even on the chart at that time, he Dr concern was getting a little fat reserve on her. This woman would not budge until the nurse told Marisa that kady would get her milk....no problem! I have no idea how some of these teachers consider that they wear every hat....

What you said!

Morning all

Sheryl- Thinking of you and hope things move along quickly so you can get it all over with.

Laura- I'm suprised I haven't gotten any lunch comments. Yogurt is out, but she'll eat it at home. She doesn't like the texture of cheese if it's been in her lunch box. Won't eat an apple with the peel on it, berries sometimes don't travel well. They have 15 minutes for lunch, so I have to pack something that will fill her up and she has time to finish. She eats slow so is always hungry at home and never has time to finish her lunch. I've sent banana bread before, I figure if the cafeteria ladies don't see people taking her lunch from her and crushing her pretzals they don't care what she eats.
They have served bagel and cream cheese, french toast, and cereal- in the same week. Ahhh, I feel better now.

Lauren- your dinner sounds so good, brisket is my favorite, especially smoked.

My internet is giving me trouble again so if I disappear that's where I am.

I cooked a ham last night and was planning on having chicken tonight, and leftover ham on thursday. I guess I missed a day because it turns out today is thursday. Still having chicken, it's marinating and needs to be cooked. See you all later.

Thank you all for prayers for Dad. Off to get ready.

.

Thinking & praying for you & your Dad today, please check-in when you can.

Sheryl if you see this thanks for the wonderful chat:hug:My prayers are with you.

Becky chicken milanese is one of my favorite dishes!!!! Please tell me when it's on the menu again so I can jump in the car;)

Kat you truly are our glue & I admire that!

Dinner last night was leftovers.......my leftovers included the last of the cupcakes, very yummy but paying for it today.

Tonight is chicken breast something....I have them thawing.

This afternoon I head to the hospital for all my pre-admission testing & then tomorrow morning a stress test & I have to see my intern to sign off for my surgery.

Scotlass~ as far as frosting I make buttercream but I have really been into the creamcheese frosting for some reason...in the summer I oftem make real whipped cream & add a little extract & top with fresh berries...lighter & quick.

Ellen~ do you have a Facebook account? Would love to add you as a friend!

Thank you all for sharing in my frustration. Janice -- I completely agree with you. The food they serve at the schools is just awful. How is a week of hot dogs, chicken nuggets, pizza dippers, chicken patty and pizza sending a better message about what kids should be eating than what I send in from home? Like Robin's school, they serve french toast, pancakes, waffles and bagels with cream cheese (not in the same week though.) They also serve lunch munchies, which is basically just crackers. So what is the problem with banana bread?

Robin -- our daughters sound very alike. Caili eats slowly too, and she won't bring yogurt or cheese for the same reasons. I can't blame her. If you rub a lemon wedge over apple slices, they will stay good until lunch time. Caili will eat that and hasn't commented on any weird taste.

I have no idea how some of these teachers consider that they wear every hat....

Now THIS is one of my big problems with the schools. I do realize that there are some parents out there who don't parent well. However, that does not apply to the majority! Yet the schools treat the parents like the school knows what is better for a child than the parent does. It drives me nuts.

Between being mad about the lunch thing and not sleeping well last night, I have not accomplished anything here so far. I guess I should get moving.

I have fallen so far behind on this thread!

Just checking in, but I don't know if or when I am going to be able to read back to catch up. I think I'll just jump in and try to keep up this time!

I heard if you dip the fruit in 7up it does the same thing but without the tart taste. I have not put it to the test since I rarely have 7up in the house.

Dinner tonight may be something made with a seafood mix I have that has shrimp, scallops and calamari in it. I have another going away party from 5:30 to 8 so it will depend on what time I get home and if I feel like cooking.

Good afternoon ladies.

Ann ~ prayers for your Dad.

Laura ~ there is no way you are a bad parent for not going to see the art. I'm sure the kids could have cared less also. As far as the lunch for Cali - don't get me started. I agree with the rest of you. Our oldest couldn't drink milk. Every year I had to fight with the school to not force her to drink it. They need to stick with the teaching and let the parents do the parenting. Enough said!

Sheryl ~ prayers are still with you for peace in this scary time.

Becky ~ I SO agree with you!

Maria ~ No I am not on Facebook. I have a hard enought time catching up here and another site I frequent. I am holding out but may at some point. I will let you know. I also want to say I am holding you close for your upcoming surgery. You have felt icky for way to long. You need to catch a break young lady.

Bethany ~ jump in girlfriend. We miss you.

It is very stormy and rainy here today. I hate this time of year. I live in tornado alley and I am petrified of storms. Don't laugh but, thunder will have me under the covers or running for cover real fast. Never did grow up I guess.

WFDT ~ Stuffed green & red peppers, roasted ranch potatoes and baked apples.

Make it a great day my friends.

Ann -

Sheryl update - Her doctor will not schedule the surgery because of the facial numbness. She needs to go to her primary dr. so that they can rule out the possibility that she's had a stroke or mini-strokes. She'll be doing that today.

Sheryl  When it rains, it pours.

Today has been nuts - we are hosting a homeless connect and y'all, the faces of some of the homeless will just kill you. Often times I was shocked to find out that some people who I thought looked like a volunteer were actually sleeping on the street or in a shelter due to job loss. So many children, too. I have been busy working with that today but it's winding down now.

Tonight I am making peanut chicken wraps with mashed potatoes.

Hey my friends,

I know I have worried you all. :guilty: Your phone calls have let me know that for sure & just on this page I see prayers & good thoughts for me. I am sorry for making everyone worry.

I just wanted to let everyone know the N.P. at the neurosurgeons office was wrong. I saw a primary care dr this morning & she did not see any signs of stroke or TIA (mini-strokes). But I knew that already. She did give me an order for a CT Scan if the neurosurgeon wants it to clear me for surgery. I have faxed that over to his office & am waiting to hear back from them.

I haven't been here, because I flat out have been just totally overwhelmed. I have been thinking & missing all of you. (and praying for those who needed it.) I have to confess that I have not been checking in at all. So I don't know what's going on with everyone. I am trying hard to pull myself together so I can keep up, it may depend on my stupid dr's office.

Just know I appreciate all of your prayers, good wishes & phone calls. You are all dear dear friends & are so important to me. :grouphug:

Tornado Alley and you think you should not be afraid???????Holy Moly Gal! You have every reason to be very nervous.

No apologies Missy! You don't need to explain anything to us, just concentrate on getting that surgery taken care of so that you can be pain free. We worry because we care, that is what friends do we know our job and do it well :thumbsup2

Another quick update. The nurse pract. has cleared me to schedule surgery. She said (finally) that if the Dr has any further concerns he will schedule any tests during my pre-op. Now again to make my decision as to when to do it. Angelina is on an interview right now, whether or not she is still going on vacation May 3 is one thing holding me up. Hopefully she will have an answer after the interview. So I'm probably looking at late May or early July. Alexis has a graduation ceremony May 20th that I'd like to make. I will miss my niece's wedding shower the end of May, but then would make her wedding July 11. If not, I'll do it after the wedding in mid July.

Maria, I'm going to be praying for you now & all next week! (Even if I don't check in here.)

Lauren, Please know you've been in my prayers.

Nancy, I know I don't even have to say more.

Kat, for all you do for me!

:grouphug:

Sheryl So glad to see you back here and keeping us updated. I've been praying for you be strong girl. Hang in there.

Sheryl, so glad to hear from you. You are missed but your health is the most important thing. Get well! We will all be praying for you and awaiting the return of you and your food porn. :grouphug:

My Dad is at the Dr. now and I am waiting to here from my DM. I will update you all once we know more. Thanks for the prayers.

I had my appointment today and everything went great. Dr. said Emma's head was down, and I was measuring correctly. Her heartbeat was 148. My blood pressure was good 118/70. I lost 3 lbs since my last appointment so that brings my weight back to where I originally started my pregnancy with.

I didn't get much sleep last night and I think I over did it cleaning the shower yesterday. Now I am paying for it today. Fortunately, I was able to come home and take a 2 hour nap when DS did.

WFD- lamb chops for me, marinated pork for DH on the grill. Not sure about sides...I better start planning, it is almost supper time.

I just spoke with my DM. They did x-rays, and have diagnosed DF with moderate/severe arthritis. He has been told to rest and take it easy. (easier said than done, he is so stubborn) They have given him an anti-inflamatory med to ease the pain. Hope it gives him some relief to function soon.

Ann
