The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Well, it started out rocky, but ended up pretty good. Abby made fun of her, Katie stood up for herself, but Abby ran away from her. When she got home from school, Abby called Katie and apologized for the way she's been treating her for the last few weeks.

Please pray Greg was just admitted to the hospital with chest pain & vomiting.

I forgot to say yesterday was my 11th anniversary and DH forgot !! :sad1:

Happy Belated Anniversary! :lovestruc

Spoke too soon. Started feeling horrible pain while getting ready for work, another stone. Asking for prayers for Greg in my place, I'm worried about Maria.

Oh no.

Aimee- talk to to town social services office or the elder care specialist that the senior center can refer you to. The town hall would have that info, social Security generally sends a representative on a regular basis to each town. The senior center in town will have referrals or volunteers who know what services are available. I hope that there is financial assistance for your GF

Thanks for the advice. My boss also said to contact the VA just to see what might be available. He has some savings, but with the price of assisted living it won't last long.

Dad is in Houston now but is coming home tomorrow. Those aggravating doctors had him fly all the way there, did NO additional tests, reviewed the findings of his previous tests and told him they couldn't do any more for him than the hospital here. :scared1: WHAT!?!? I'm so glad I wasn't with him because I would probably be in the Houston Jail right now.

  That is ridiculous.

Today is my momma's birthday and since she just happens to be here, we're going out for dinner at her choice of restaurant (some fried catfish place - blech).

I saw the hematologist today and am having my infusion next Thurs. They said once I got there that I could have had it today but when they scheduled my appt, they said I would need to return for it later :confused3 I was bummed I didn't know. I had too much to do today to stay around for it... it's an all day affair.

I mean come on. Do they not have a telephone, email, or carrier pigeon they could have delivered that news by? My poor Daddy flew, in pain, through a horrible storm Tuesday evening, had to make an emergency landing in New Orleans because the storm was too bad to continue, wait an additional 2 hours - IN THE PLANE - navigate around the flooded streets and collapse in the hotel bed at 1:00 a.m. All this joy only to have them do nothing but further delay his treatment. Can all of you now tell I'm a little miffed? :sad2:

Anyway, the first flight back home they could get arrives tomorrow night. The local doctor has been wonderful. Dad still needs an MRI of his brain before begining treatment, so he has that scheduled for 7 Friday morning, a dr appt after that, and chemo mid day.

I'm doing better, but have developed a facial rash that the lovely little physican's assistant and the dermatologist's office said may be due to stress. You think?!? Anyway, I'm medicating that now, but the red rash on my face is temporarily distracting people from the gray hair on my head so I may need to leave it alone.

That is horrible! I'm angry about that too! Making a very ill person travel & then not do one test!:mad: Ridiculous!

It only makes sense that your rash could be caused from stress. I hope the meds help, just know that prayers are on going for your Dad & you! I'm so sorry you're going through this.

The aide situation has been cleared up. We have someone who has been showing up on a regular basis. She does the job just fine, just not necessarily the kind of person I'd choose. Like last night, she just walked in WITH a friend! So then I've got this lady I don't know sitting on my couch, while I'm trying to wind down & get some "me" time. DH is going to tell her that's not okay to do again. She seems to be the kind of person that if you give an inch they take a mile. But we are adjusting & she has said has assured us that she will be available for my surgery.

I'll be sure and try the lemonade, thanks for the tip. Sorry if I mispell or seem incoherent, i'm kinda drugged up.

I cannot believe what theydid to your Dad, I'd have been in jail with you. I'm so sorry about your rash, know that I'm praying for you always.

I'm so sorry! I really hoped you wouldn't have more than one. Have you had your stones analyzed? You might want to see if they are the kind that can be avoided with medication.

This is my first experience with the stones. My Dr did mention he wanted me to collect the next one, whatever that means. I'm sure he told Johnny more when he spoke with him.

I'm so worried about Greg & Maria! I hope we hear something soon.

p.s. I posted a cute/funny video of Alexis singing on FB.

If I weren't so woozy I'd call maria, i'M really worried about Greg. I hope your headache is better. I have to get on fb and see the princess's video!

Happy Bday to Mom! I'm sure next Thursday can't come soon enough.

I tried to post earlier today but I guess it didn't go through, we have been having internet problems at work today.

Feeling better now that the pollen has been washed away, for now anyway! Rained last night into this morning, there are lots of nice greenish yellow puddles around. :scared:

Not sure what is for dinner tonight, didn't take out anything and my DM had taken out some ground beef. Not sure if she is planning anything or not. I know tomorrow night will be appetizer type food, have an awards thing to go to.

Aimee, I'm sorry you weren't able to get your infusion. I hope you enjoy your night out with your Mom, even if it is fried catfish!

Merle, greenish yellow puddles! ewwww! Glad you feel better, try not to step in those puddles!

Kathy, I hope you feel better soon!

We're having easy grilled chicken sandwiches tonight. I can't shake this headache & I don't even have my little noisemaker here this afternoon. Chris took off with headache, coughing & achy. I hope we're not all coming down with a bug.

We don't have any pollen puddles yet, I just noticed it today. I do have a nice yellow streak down my windsheild where the wipers stop though. We are surrounded by pine trees and we have to leave all the windows closed. I actually slipped on the pollen on our floors one time. Now it's just easier to keep things closed until it's over.

Kathy- I'm not the praying type, but I will certainly think of you. You manage to keep track of everyone so I'm sure we can manage to think of both you and Greg, and everyone else who needs them. I'm sorry that so many of you are going through so much.

Aimee- I wish I had a suggestion for you, I'm glad your mom can help you look. I'm sure it's a very hard decision.

Marissa- It doesn't matter how you cook the chicken, everything tastes better in your own home, especially when it's new! (No offence Nancy.)

Tonight we are having onion soup and grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, it smell so good in my house right now. Now that my internet is fixed I should start posting pictures too, is it easy? Our DSL was slower than dial-up and pictures didn't seem worth it. Many phone calls later and finally a 3 hour visit from the phone company I have finally experienced fast internet.

The pollen was so bad here yesterday that when I went out to my car all of the cars on the outer edge of the parking garage were covered from front to back with a pretty thick layer.

There is a lake behind my office that gets runoff from the storm drains in it, there was a pollen slick right outside of the drain pipe this morning. :scared:

Kathy--Lots of hugs and prayers! Hoping this is the last stone:hug:

Maria--Sending out prayers for Greg as well. Please update us as soon as you can.

Okay, need to get going on dinner. Just logged on to get the recipe Glynis posted a few days back with chicken and pesto sauce.

Still no word from Maria?! Really starting to worry now. Does anyone know if she can recieve text? I want to call but I don't want to interupt the dr., sleep or family?

Hope thats you done and glad youse are feelin better.

DREAM - Now are youse sure....ok !!

It was winter and i was LIVING with Glynis and her family in a log cabin !!

I had come over for a visit and Glynis drew the short straw...literally..youse drew straws !! :rotfl2:

All her family loved me especially Timothy (who was walking and playing tag and hide and seek) but Glynis would not talk to me !! :confused3

I followed her around her house but she just ignored me.

She made me sleep on the floor in the cellar.
I came home from school :confused3 to find all youse guys having a conference call about me.

You all said i was quite nice but youse liked it better when I was in Scotland !! :rotfl2:

Lauren was in Glynis's house and she said if I could ran the London Marathon then I could go stay with her !!

So I did.....I actually won :cheer2::laughing:

But youse got all the planes to America cancelled so I couldnt get back.:rotfl2:

Then my wee brother appeared and gave me a ferrari so i could drive back to Scotland and when I got here my front garden was a fair ground and the boy was married to the wee girl next door

Strange but true.................:upsidedow

That WAS a crazy dream! :lmao:

Although, I did have a similar situation almost happen in real life when they were giving me a hard time about adding two more months to my lease. It was supposed to end on April 30, and I would have been without housing for 2 months. My friend (or is it "friend"?) who has a HOUSE offered to let me stay with her...but in her (unfinished) ATTIC. In May and JUNE. :headache: Uh, thanks but no thanks! Fortunately, the lease got extended and we have a place to be until June 30. (See ticker!)

Scot You and Bethany have the best dreams. My dreams about all of you usually are about us meeting in Epcot and drinking and eating around the world :confused3Boring in comparision.

Yes, it appears we do have some fantabulous dreams!

Well, it started out rocky, but ended up pretty good. Abby made fun of her, Katie stood up for herself, but Abby ran away from her. When she got home from school, Abby called Katie and apologized for the way she's been treating her for the last few weeks.

That's promising!

p.s. I posted a cute/funny video of Alexis singing on FB.

That was so cute ....and funny at the same time! GOOD NIGHT LOUISIANA!! :lmao:

Hi everyone! Believe it or not, I've read all nine million pages I missed, but now I don't have the energy to respond to everything.

Glad to see you back! I hear you on the catching up on this thread...

That is SO crazy what they did. I'd be angry too, especially after that flight! I would NOT do well on a flight like that. I hope your rash clears up too.

That is good that you have a consistent aide, especially with that surgery coming up.

I tried to post earlier today but I guess it didn't go through, we have been having internet problems at work today.

My phone kept telling me things weren't going through to Facebook, then I get home and find out they WERE, so I had several multiple posts. Opposite from you, I guess! :lmao:

Countdown: 41 work days; 62 NYC days...

Still no word from Maria?! Really starting to worry now. Does anyone know if she can recieve text? I want to call but I don't want to interupt the dr., sleep or family?

Hi all,
I was just checking in quick before trying to put Luke down to sleep. I have been at my parents most of the day. I wanted to log on and see if there was any news from Maria. I am worried but don't want to call either, if it is a bad time. Sending prayers, we are all thinking of you Maria & Greg.

Gretchen, we missed you. Sorry to hear about your Dad, you all must be so frustrated. Take care of yourself and that rash, stress is not good.

I have alot to catch up on, but wanted to wish Angelina well with job negotiations & send my pal Kathy some hugs. I hope all you pain passes quickly and the drugs are helping!

I will try to check again in the am, but I have an early check up and we have to drop DH's car at the garage.

:grouphug:Ann

I texted and heard back from Maria. They did some testing on Greg and gave him some meds and it turned out to be some type of heart spasm. It did not do any damage to the heart itself. They are waiting for discharge papers now.

Thanks for the update! Glad to hear it is not as serious as it could have been. :grouphug:

This is my first experience with the stones. My Dr did mention he wanted me to collect the next one, whatever that means. I'm sure he told Johnny more when he spoke with him.

Just returned from a trip to WDW and read about your kidney stones. So sorry! Ouch! :headache:

I had my first stone last December. Dh had his one and only about 15 years ago.

Thank goodness mine was a very small one!!! I also read that drinking lemonade helps with stones. My doc gave me a strainer to use every time I went to the bathroom and I was able to collect the stone. It was so tiny I had to look at it under a magnifying glass to even see it, but it had all kinds of jagged edges. If you Google "pictures of kidney stones," you'll see what I mean. They look like something from out of space - crazy! They give you a little container to save it and bring it in to be analyzed.

They only hurt when they are moving and mine only hurt at night for some reason - never during the day. I read that laying on one side or the other might help them move. So, I tried that. Oh, and I also tried jumping up and down :yay: and laying down with my legs stretched over my head. I wanted that bugger OUT!!!! :lmao:

Any hoo, waaaaay too much information! But I can totally relate to what you are going thru. My doc said I would be sore for a couple of weeks after the stone passed. Hope you feel better real soon.

P.S. Did you have an x-ray? I did, and they could tell I only had the one - not others backed up waiting to move.

Well, how was your trip? Thanks for the info, not too much, believe me. I didn't have an x-ray so I'm just hoping there are no more. Sore for a couple of weeks??????

Greg is home!!!!
Thank you for all your prayers. Last night & most of this morning I thought we were in some serious trouble. Greg had an atypical heart spasm that mimics a heart attack. He kept saying he felt like he was being hit in the chest so I gave him an aspirin last evening & off to the ER we went. They watched him, kept him on monitors & oxygen, treated with beta blockers & did a bunch of tests and we are blessed that this is something very scary and painful but not damaging of the heart muscle itself.

I'm going to try to read & regroup........I think my adrenaline is still flowing so it's going to take me awhile to calm down. Greg is asleep.

Thank you Lauren for reaching out & updating everyone.

Maria - Please don't worry about reading back, you had a major problem going on my friend. I would have called but I've been under the weather. Thanks to Lauren we were updated. I'm not making much sense, better go to bed.

I am so glad he's okay!!!

We leave in the morning for my sister's wedding; DH is cleaning house right now for our dogsitter :confused3

They closed the largest district near me (Fort Worth) due to the swine flu. It won't affect me as much but if school gets out 1-2 weeks late now, it will overlap with youth camp :confused3
