The What's For Dinner Thread - Feb '09(recipe index in OP)

Good Morning All!

I have been reading but could not post all I had to say.

Maria- Thank God Greg is okay! I was so worried about the two of you.

Kathy- I have never had a stone and pray I never do. I hope that this never happens to you again!

Gretchen- I don;t even know what to say............dragging your Dad for a consult that could have been done from home????????? I can't even say to calm down....how do you do that? Your family is in my prayers.

Sheryl- I have no idea what some folks are thinking when they bring strangers into your home like that! Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robin- I am not offended at all! I don't blame Marisa for wanting to eat dinner in her own new home, I just hope she brings some of the leftovers to me :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Marisa- How was dinner last night?

Vickie- Okay....you and Bethany have the best dreams! Between the two of you I am always laughing. How are you feeling?

Aimee- Enjoy the wedding and Happy Birthday to your Mom!

I really need to make dinner tonight. My DMIL sent stuffed peppers and we have been eating them as well as some leftover American Chop Suey. Last night we just had eggs and toast. Buddy said he is afraid of what my MIL puts in her food :confused3 so he would not eat the peppers again. (They are not mine ;))

The funeral for my Aunt was a little stressful but we got through it. I am shocked at the behavior of some of my cousins. My Aunt was very good to all of us, she had no children of her own. She thought that she had taken care of her arrangements and she had but at the time she was angry with teh relatives in Methuen so she had decided that they were not going to be included in her services. Well that changed so we made sure that the obit was in their paper and that we had dinner there. One cousin treated the meal like a mini family reunion for all of her grandchildren (they had never even seen my Aunt) and even after she found out that there was not enough money to pay for the meal she never even offered to pay a dime for her tribe. So. We are footing the bill for dinner out for all those folks who never even called my Aunt. It will be interesting to see if any one of them sent a card or donated to her charity because they never even sent a flower to remember her.

Nola is sick with some kind of tummy bug. Her poor Mommy and Daddy felt so bad but she is fine with me. She would not go in her crib though so she snuggled on me all day. I hope the poor little Peanut is better today, she laughed and played but her energy level was so low that she would end up back on Nana's cushy lap.

Maria, soooooooo :goodvibes happy to hear Greg is doing better! I think the two of you should stay in bed and rest. Snuggling up together would do the both of you some good right now. xoxo

We already dropped DH's car at the garage. I have to get myself in gear and get DS & I ready. I have a Dr. appt and he is going to my parents. I will update you all later of my appointment.

Hugs and well wishes to you all!!
Ann

WFD- baked pork chops, apple sauce, zuchini, and corn.

Swiss steak, scalloped potatoes and green beans. Trying to get myself together for work.:upsidedow

Quick check in...taking the baby to Mom's while A is in school, then we have to go to school and pick up our Market Day order. Dinner will be a quick pasta with meatsauce and tossed salad.

Have a great day all!

Marisa- How was dinner last night?

I didnt get to make it! Remember the meeting at church! I didnt get home until 8!! And dont forget, no gloves, purses, or prayer books!:upsidedow

I hope to make the stir fry tonight!! I cant wait. I am going to pick up Kady and run right home because if I dont, it will never get made.

Nan, I invited you guys for dinner Sunday night and you didnt even respond. I made the baked ziti with garlic bread, lemon squares and homemade cookies :sad1:

Greg is home!!!!
Thank you for all your prayers. Last night & most of this morning I thought we were in some serious trouble. Greg had an atypical heart spasm that mimics a heart attack. He kept saying he felt like he was being hit in the chest so I gave him an aspirin last evening & off to the ER we went. They watched him, kept him on monitors & oxygen, treated with beta blockers & did a bunch of tests and we are blessed that this is something very scary and painful but not damaging of the heart muscle itself.

I'm going to try to read & regroup........I think my adrenaline is still flowing so it's going to take me awhile to calm down. Greg is asleep.

Thank you Lauren for reaching out & updating everyone.

Im so glad Gregs ok,did they give any reason for the spasm ?

That sucks.Nothing stranger than family.

Maria, I am so glad that Greg is OK! Laura and I were talking about you last night, hoping everything was OK. Do they think this was a one time thing?

Kathy, are you feeling any better?

Nancy, the behavior of those relatives is just awful! I would be angry too.

I know I missed some folks, sorry!

I did not have a lot of time to make dinner last night, so I just melted a wedge of brie that I topped with honey and pistachios, and toasted up some baguette slices for spreading the cheese and honey on. I made a lettuce and green apple salad too. Here is a picture:

The aide situation has been cleared up. We have someone who has been showing up on a regular basis. She does the job just fine, just not necessarily the kind of person I'd choose. Like last night, she just walked in WITH a friend! So then I've got this lady I don't know sitting on my couch, while I'm trying to wind down & get some "me" time. DH is going to tell her that's not okay to do again. She seems to be the kind of person that if you give an inch they take a mile. But we are adjusting & she has said has assured us that she will be available for my surgery.

It really is an adjustment, but it will get easier and easier. And I agree, you do need to have Bob speak with her about bringing her friend. I can't imagine anyone doing that. :confused3

I'll be sure and try the lemonade, thanks for the tip. Sorry if I mispell or seem incoherent, i'm kinda drugged up.

I'm glad you have been drugged up. From what I understand, those stones are horribly painful. I can't believe you feel well enough to go to work today.

Greg is home!!!!

So glad this turned out so well!

We leave in the morning for my sister's wedding; DH is cleaning house right now for our dogsitter :confused3

:lmao: Now that cracked me up! But if Kenny ever decided to clean, I wouldn't look that gift horse in the mouth if you get my drift. ;)

:rotfl: Bless Buddy's heart. Kenny is the same way about my mother's cooking. With good reason I might add.

I'm sorry about the family issues at your Aunt's funeral. There always seem to be some in every bunch. :sad2:

Tonight is leftover roast. I'm planning on hitting the gym and doing some laundry.

First of all, Maria, I am so glad Greg is okay.

Gretchen -- I can't believe they made your dad go through all of that for nothing. I would have been furious.

I'm glad you're back. You gave me a laugh with Kenny thinking gravy needs to come with a side of rice. I hope the medicine is helping your rash.

Nancy -- I'm sorry about the relatives' behavior. Some people are so rude. I am glad the service was nice though. I hope Nola feels better today...poor baby.

Sheryl -- I am glad you have found a dependable aide. Bringing a friend is a little weird though. Has Angelina heard any more about the job?

Aimee -- I hope your mom had a nice birthday. Have a good time at the wedding!

Vickie -- Good luck with the cleaning. I have to do the same thing in my kids' rooms, but today is not going to be the day.

I think I am going to pick something up at the fish market for dinner tonight.

Nan, I invited you guys for dinner Sunday night and you didnt even respond. I made the baked ziti with garlic bread, lemon squares and homemade cookies :sad1:

How did I miss that????????

Swiss steak, scalloped potatoes and green beans. Trying to get myself together for work.:upsidedow

How are you feeling this morning?

Nola is way better today. I took her to a WW meeting this morning and she was flirting with everyone. Still no appetite, I am working on getting her to take another 2 oz of her formula but she is just pushing it away. I have pedialyte here but the formula is better if I can coax her to drink it.

My phone kept telling me things weren't going through to Facebook, then I get home and find out they WERE, so I had several multiple posts. Opposite from you, I guess! :lmao:

Countdown: 41 work days; 62 NYC days...

I tried twice to get my message to post, figured I would come back later and find both of them.

Greg is home!!!!

That's good news.

Dinner tonight, cheese, crackers, veggies and dip. :thumbsup2

Morning all, another nice day here. I just got back from canoeing and it was so nice to be out on the marsh, but now I'm pretty hungry. There were tons of little fish and a few horseshoe crabs to be seen, but that was about it.

Laura- we have a new fish market opening near us, I'm hoping it's good because I'll pass it on the way home from work. The kiddo and I love fish, but not my husband.

Aimee- My mom used to have a someone come dust and mop for her every other week and we always had to clean the house before she came.

Maria-glad things turned out well.

Gretchen- I have never had gravy on rice, but it sounds like something I need to try.

Becky- for a quick dinner sometimes I would melt a wedge of brie in spaghetti sauce, I haven't done that in a while though.

Scotlass- I "put stuff in the basement."

Ann- I know it was a while ago, but did Luke like the giraffes at Roger Williams?

Don't know what's for dinner either open face chicken sandwiches with gravy or pulled chicken sandwiches. Either way, it will be chicken.

Hey Y'all,

Maria, I'm so glad that Greg is okay!!! I know you must have been so scared! Do they know what caused the spasms?

Nancy, I'm so sorry that your relatives acted so badly.
I'm glad Nola is improving! I know you are taking good care of that baby! Thank goodness her Mom & Dad have you!

Kathy, I hope the pain is improving!

Laura, She hasn't heard anything yet. The GM & Owner are supposed to be discussing it today. Hopefully she'll hear something today or tomorrow. She takes off for a vacation in NYC on Saturday. I'm glad she was able to get in the surgery & her vacation while out of work. Hopefully everything else will work out.

Maria, Any rest. recommendations for A? Something they can still get in without making reservations months ago?

Gretchen, Bob is planning on calling her today. I hope he can, I know he's swamped at work today.

Robin, Never had gravy on rice??? Girl we need to send you some N'awlins food! ;) Yes you do have to try it!

Becky, You fix the most delicious quick dinners I have ever seen!

My headache is better today & I'm going out to lunch with my girl! Y'all have a good one!:goodvibes

Sheryl- Yes you do need to send me some food. What I would like is from a little bakery that was on the corner of some street. I think they called it a "harlequin." It was layered white chocolate, dark chocolate, and milk chocolate mouse with a big strawberry on top. If you could go pick one up for me that would be great. Of course I was there around 1996 or so, so some things might have changed.
Back to the rice, is it the same kind of gravy you would put on turkey? I've had sauce on rice before, but never gravy.

Quick check in, trying to get caught up with housework and my office work, can't seem to get it all done. I'm feeling better but still far from "going to the gym" kind of good. I can't believe I haven't been since Monday.:guilty:

Hope everyone is having a great day!:goodvibes

I have never had gravy on rice either. Like Robin, I was wondering what kind of gravy do you put on rice. :confused3

Nancy -- I am glad to hear Nola is doing better today.

Sheryl -- Angelina is doing so great after her surgery isn't she? She is ready to go on vacation! I hope she hears good news about the job.

I ended up getting flounder at the fish market. It was so good last week, I just had to get it again. Now I just have to figure out what I am doing with it.

Personally I don't like rice & gravy but my guys do. Whenever I cook anything with a brown gravy (a roast, hamburger steaks, smothered chops) I cook a side of rice for them to plop some gravy on.

Ann- I know it was a while ago, but did Luke like the giraffes at Roger Williams?

To answer your question, he is going through a phase of saying..."I don't like..." about anything he loves. So that day we heard, "I don't like elephants" & "I don't like giraffes" the whole time. But as soon as we left he was talking about them. There was a cute baby giraffe, it was a fun day.

My Dr. appt went well. No real changes to report. :goodvibes . Emma's heartbeat was 148, and my belly was measuring correctly. My BP was 112/70, and I have gained a total of 3lbs total since start of my pregnancy. Next appointment is in 2 weeks.

I did not have a lot of time to make dinner last night, so I just melted a wedge of brie that I topped with honey and pistachios, and toasted up some baguette slices for spreading the cheese and honey on. I made a lettuce and green apple salad too. Here is a picture:
