The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

Afternoon Ladies,

I have been swamped today so this is a real late check in for me.

Alison ~ Oh bless your heart!! I was worried this might happen. We took Doug's folks on a 2 week Panama Canal Cruise and I felt the same way. Please remember this is YOUR vacation also. Speak up if you have to or get real good at hiding. :duck:

Doug and I have a date tonight - we are going to see "Finding Dory". I can't wait!! We have a quiet weekend planned. We were to have the girls, but Stephanie called and they have decided to stay home - I think we all need a quiet weekend.

WFDT ~ Chicken salad on croissants with tomato and cucumber salad.

Make it a great day and a wonderful weekend.

Ellen - So glad the wedding went off without a hitch. You look stunning in that dress. It was a perfect fit for you!
I'm so pleased to read that you like Pastor Anne!!

It's Thursday here. Tonight, DH had something on...so DS and I treated ourselves to Gold Class seats at the movies. We saw Finding Dory and had a great time. We made a night of it and ordered food to come to our recliner seats. I'm so full that I had to roll myself out of the chair!
Work day tomorrow and I have another photography excursion tomorrow night. Looking forward to it!

Have a great day all.
glad you and DS had a great time at the movies and that you are full. Have fun on the photog adventure

Hello everyone - I have missed you!!

Thanks so much for the wonderful comments on the wedding pictures. The wedding went off without a hitch. When we got to the Rehearsal it was boiling in there as the AC had broke, but on Saturday it was fixed and cool. From then on it was perfect!! The kids flew out on Monday for Punta Cunta the Dominican Republic for a week long honeymoon. I know they are having a wonderful time. They took NO phones so I will be anxious to see pictures and hear how it was.

PIO ~ I am loving your pictures - they are stunning. You really have the "eye" my friend. Loving your report.

So good to see you my friend. Thanks SO much!! I have missed you - how is life treating you?

Brandi ~ Thanks!! I think getting the mints done was the start of everything else falling into place.

Alison ~ I know you are your cruise and I didn't get to wish you bon voyage. I hope you are having a great time, seeing amazing sights and making many memories. I can't wait to read all about it.

We got home early afternoon on Sunday as we wanted to get Cooper out of the Doggie hotel. I was so glad that we had another day as we were so tired. We spent 4th of July with Jay and Elizabeth. The boys shot off tons of fireworks and then we went and watched our town's display. We had a really nice day.

Yesterday was my first official day with Pastor Anne. She is a real gem and is exactly what our Church needs. I can't wait to see where she is going to take us.

WFDT ~ BLTA - Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato and Avocado sandwiches with potato salad.

Make it a great day!
So glad that you and Pastor Anne had a great day and started things off in a great way.

you dinner sounds really good. I found a Vegan recipe for bac'n and I want to have a BLT with it.

Good morning ladies,

Wow, as Doug would say, it got real western here last night. All day we were warned that severe weather was possible. And at around 6:30 the storms started forming. About 55 miles to the West of us there were tornadoes, 80 mph winds and golf ball size hail. We watched this move East all night. Around 10 - and of course by now it is dark - it hit us. OH.MY!!! Needless to say we didn't sleep through it, but thankfully there was no damage but we got over 2" of rain. Today is suppose to be more of the same.

Thanks so much!! I'm glad you liked my dress. It was so comfortable and I really did get a lot of compliments on it. Now I need to go on a cruise so I can wear it again. That picture was taken at the end of the night. We were outside and had just sent the kids off. We were a bit disheveled but still having fun.

PIO ~ I have to say it again - I am loving your trip report. Your pictures are beautiful.
I haven't seen Finding Dory yet, but I hope to soon. I think it is great that you and your boy went together. Great memories.

WFDT ~ It's golf night so Doug will eat at the Country Club and I might just have a salad. It's too hot to eat much of anything.

Make it a great day!
I am glad you both are safe and I always feel uncomfortable in storms like that, I try to always make myself go to sleep.

I missed the pictures on FB as our weekend was...interesting...you'll hear all about it in the TR. I think I have a title now. When I get hone I'll have to go back and look up the dress, I'm really curious to see it!
This vacation has been trying in many ways. With both Fran and the parents I'm being tugged in various different ways. Especially with challenges that we are facing. Fran and I are resting while my parents watch Finding Dory. I'm sure Fran and I won't see it until it comes out on our DVR, but she needed to sleep this evening.
I hope thing are ok for y'all, and really sorry to hear you are being pulled in different directions. I kind of feel that way when we vacation with my parents. David always has his own thought on what he wants to do and it is hard for him to just go with the flow.

Hugs my friend...

Sometimes staying at home and just chilling is the best thing for us, so I can understand that very well... Have a nice and quiet weekend.

David and I flew out on Friday morning to Indianapolis to meet up with his cousin, her Mom is that Aunt that passed away about 2 weeks ago.
her and her DH picked us up at the airport, and we dropped off our stuff at the hotel, and we headed out to see Indy, turned out that seeing Indy to them meant to bar hoping. i cannot drink like that anymore, and by the fourth place I threw in the towel and went back to the hotel. It was 8:30 and I was in bed asleep!

The next morning we were up and ready and they were dragging...
we drove to Muncie and stayed at their house. Her Mom had planned a party for July 4th for the family to get together, and everyone was there, about 50 people, 1st, 2nd and 3rd cousins, everyone except the party planner, it was sweet and wonderful to be with the family.

Sunday it rained all day we kind of just hung out in Muncie, and eat at that their favorite place, they had really good grinders. I had no idea what a grinder was, or why the sandwich I had was called a grinder but this article might explain it http://www.thekitchn.com/hoagies-he...ats-the-deal-with-these-sandwich-names-222944

We had a hot sandwich it was 8" and served open faced, the cheese was gooey and I loved the sandwich.

Monday as we were packing up and getting everything ready, I fell down the stairs. I hit and bounced on about four stairs right on my butt. I have now find out that I fractured my tail bone i hurts like nothing I have experienced before.

Monday it looked like rain all day, but never really rained, sprinkled here and there and we drove up to Carmel for the parade and fireworks and a picnic at another family's member house after all the fun, we left to go to the airport in Indy. We spent the night at a hotel and at that time I could hardly walk, sitting was almost impossible. laying down was the best option.

Tuesday morning at 3:00am we leave for the airport, and the flight was awful on my tail bone. Once we landed, I went straight to work, it was 7:15 when I got to work, I almost did not make it thru the day, but once I got home i took a pain pill.

Fast forward to last night - went for a massage, and he worked out a lot of my back and leg issues from the funny sitting stance and I felt better but the tail bone is still very very sore, the Dr said 90 days for recovery - ughhh

Now I think y'all are all caught up.

/
Ouch Brandi! So sorry about the tail bone. I hope you get some relief. Glad you had a good time with family.

I didn't mean the parents were pulling in funny directions, everything else is! But you can read about all the drama in the TR! Im.still trying to come up with an appropriate title!

This vacation has been trying in many ways. With both Fran and the parents I'm being tugged in various different ways

I hope you're having a proper vacay!!!

Doug and I have a date tonight - we are going to see "Finding Dory". I can't wait!!

I hope you enjoyed it.

Have fun on the photog adventure

It was fun. It was an opportunity to go shoot an ice hockey match. I had a lot of fun.

they had really good grinders

WOW! My FiL used to make me 'grinders' as late night snacks. He filled it with leftover stuff from dinner. Sounds like my kind of sandwich!

I felt better but the tail bone is still very very sore,

Hope you're feeling better.

It's Monday evening....and back to work tomorrow.
After this weekend, I'm pretty pleased to be heading back to a more sedate pace at work! :rotfl2:

So I decided that I need to totally lose about 20 lbs! I feel so F-A-T at the moment. Here's to good intentions holding fast tomorrow.

Hey everyone! I'll be back to the land of the living in a couple days. The Wonder just docked in Vancouver. We have one more nightin Canada. We're staying at a casino neat the airport. It was cheaper to fly out tomorrow (pointswise) so hopefully our room will be ready and we can chill out for a bit and then go gambling.

PIO, I hope your day at work was stress free and more sedate.

Who knows what's for dinner there are a bunch of restaurants where we are drying so we'll have quite a choice!

Good morning girls,

I am sorry I wasn't in yesterday. Pastor Anne and I are still getting used to each other and it takes time. I will say this though - I am loving coming to work again as this office is again a really fun and meaningful place to be. She is working out great and the congregation is really liking her.

We loved Finding Dory!! What a fun movie. And yes I loved the preview of Piper also. Our theater here is so neat. Growing up we always had a theater - but it was nasty and stinky. I always felt that I needed a shower after going. And the people that owned/ran it were just down right mean people. I was scared to death of them as a kid. Needless to say the theater closed in the mid '90s and our little town didn't have one for many years. Then a teacher in the middle school decided to bring it back to it's glory with the help of his 8th grade class. There were MANY fundraiser, grants and help from the community. It took 4 years to do, but when these kids were Seniors they saw it become a beautiful theater again. They opened last year, it is fully staffed by volunteers of the community. We all take our turn!! It is only $5.00 for tickets and the snack bar is reasonably priced for all. It is a very neat success story of our town that we are very proud of. So when we go and see it full it really warms our hearts. It is only open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and a 3 am matinee on Sunday. We are very lucky!!

Brandi ~ OUCH!! When I was a kid I loved to roller skate. We went every Friday night with a group of kids. Well, I fell one night and fractured my tail bone. WORST pain I have ever felt. If you haven't already, get yourself a donut pillow. That was a godsend for me.

PIO ~ I am loving your pictures of the hockey team. You know how I love me my hockey!! Wonderful!! Is it getting cold there?

Alison ~ Loved your pictures. You looked so happy - cold yes - but still happy. I am behind on your TR (actually all of them) but hope to catch up soon.

Love and hugs to the rest of you ~ You know who you are!!

We are getting a break from the heat and humidity today, which is a good thing. Yesterday when I came in it was hot in my office. I fiddled a bit and then called Doug. He came right away and got it to working, but by the time he left is had quit. So a new motor was ordered and should be here today. It got to 84 in here yesterday - have I told you all how a do NOT do heat at all. I was glad to go home last night.

WFDT ~ pigs in a blanket, pesto tomato salad and chips.

Make it a great day!!

Ellen, what a neat story about the theater! Everything in our town is huge and a commercial chain. I hope we get to see Finding Dory aoon. They showed it on the ship, but Fran wanted to pass on it and see it at home. I doubt we will get to see it in a theater.

Now is the time to catch up on TRs Ellen! I only have the one going, the Jim and Alberto one. I posted an update on Saturday from the ship while I was waiting for Fran to get ready to go into port. That's all you are behind right now, at least on mine.

Today we fly home and yesterday I finally came up with a title for the new TR. I still have to upload all the pictures before I can post the first installment, but I'm working on it here in the hotel room, where the WiFi is decent.

We arrive at LAX at 5:15 today. We are going directly from the airport to band (you've been to that church PIO) because Fran bought stuff to make gift baskets. We have a fundraiser, Drag Queen Bingo, this weekend and we need prizes. Fran made two "Taste of Alasaka" gift baskets, well the contents not the baskets. I don't think we'll make it there before the break at 8:30PM. I told her I will want something to eat on the way there for sure, so that means drive through. :crazy2:

What a great way for the community to be involved and stay connected, that is a wonderful theater idea!

You two are always so busy!

David flew out of LAX today to come home, he flew out there on Sunday.
So I missed my chance for a while to come out.

Morning all,

Well I have learned a lesson - If I don't get in here first thing in the morning, it probably won't happen. I thought of you all, all day yesterday and then something happened and I was busy. Sorry!!

Allison ~ Welcome home!! You sure didn't wait too long to get back to reality. You both jumped right in.

Brandi ~ I bet you will be glad to have David home. How is the job going? Are you settled in now?

We are under sever Thunderstorm warning as I type. It is black out!! We really need the rain so I am hoping to get some. They are predicting triple didget temps. for next week.

WFDT ~ Taco salads

Make it a great day!

It was so nice to have David home. I just sleep better knowing he is safe, and all is well in the world with me.

He slept better also, and today we both worked from home, which was really nice to have some time together.

Work is really going well, my bosses are happy and my customer is really happy. So it makes it all good. Thanks for asking.

Have the honeymooners come back yet or are the still away?
Are you and Pastor Ann getting into a groove yet?
How is Doug doing?
Do you have AC yet?

I'm not sure how else you come back I to reality other than just jumping back in!

I still have not even started to unpack the suitcases yet. I need to do laundry and I have a bunch of baskets sitting around full of clean laundry that I never put away before we left! :lmao:

I'm glad you have David back safe and sound, Brandi.

Scary about the tornado warnings Ellen. We have nothing but bright and sunny and its supposed to heat up around here.

Tonight for dinner is meatloaf, mashed potatoes and frozen green beans. I made the meatloaf before I left (made 2 and froze the second) so all easy. Getting a new manicure now.

Good morning Girls,

We are under another Severe Thunderstorm warning this morning. We have had a cold front and low pressure over us for the last 36 hours. The temps. are only to reach 80 for a high today. But the humidity is so high that opening the windows is NOT an option. At least for me! I know others that do and then wonder why their AC runs all the time and expensive bills. Crazy!!!

Alison ~ Thanks SO much for the Flair! I can't wait to get started. I have been looking forward to this one.
You had comfort food at it finest. I hope your enjoyed the manicure!

Brandi ~ I am the same way - Doug and I hardly ever are apart, but when we are neither one of us sleeps real well. After 36 years I guess I have gotten use to him next to me.
Yes the kids got home on Tuesday. They had a wonderful time - as well they should have. After all it was their honeymoon. I can't wait to see the pictures. They have told us all about it and it sounds amazing.
Pastor Anne is a real gem. She is EXACTLY what our Church needed. And I am looking forward to coming to work again. We have a really good time.
Doug is Doug!! Bless him! He got terrible headaches with the allergy medicine so has stopped taking it. He has found that taking 2T of apple cider vinegar (who would have thought) is helping with the acid reflux and heartburn. What ever helps is a good thing! LOL
No AC yet!! But it is cool out today so I am ok.
Thanks for asking!!

I know why it's storming out. Our County Fair started on Wednesday. It always rains during the fair. We are to meet friends tonight in the Beer Garden. I really hope the rain goes away before then. We look forward to the gathering all year. We have SO much fun!!

WFDT ~ We are eating at the 4H café tonight - It will for sure be a 4H burger and a piece of pie.

Make it a great day and a glorious weekend.
