The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

So PIO was that curry dish something similar to what you were proposing for lunch at my house? It looks interesting if there was another flavor besides the curry powder, everything else sounded good!

I was proposing a tamarind based curry. It wouldn't have the coconut milk. The tamarind would give it a sour taste.

Curry powder usually is made up of a blend of spices....

  • ground cumin
  • ground coriander
  • chilli
  • ground turmeric
  • ground black pepper

Which spice do you have an issue with?

....not a fan of curry....:sad2:

WFDT?

Chicken stew. Made with chicken thigh fillets, potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, stock and thyme.

Yes, thanks. The fish parcels were great. Unfortunately, the curry sauce was a little bit too spicy for DS. But DH and I lapped it all up.

That was one that you had bought at the fair? Iv remembering you saying that they were not cheap but you liked the family?

Dinner tonight is steak for David with green beans sweet potato and salad. So I will have everything but the steak.

I just remembered.....neither is Alison!

I think I figured out the ingredient. :thumbsup2

I'm going to the guess that's it, coriander. I don't like Cilantro so it would seem that I wouldn't like it's seed either. All I remember is growing up as a child, my mom made her and my dad this "Curried Chicken". I couldn't go in the house when she cooked it or for hours afterwards. I don't know what the recipe called for, but there was Curry Powder from Spice Islands on the counter when she made it.

We ordered Chinese Food last night. By the time I got home, I was way too tired to cook. Tonight we'll have the pork chops and stuffing that we were supposed to have last night.

Now we're going to a car club event. We take our convertible, meet in Laguna Beach and drive up PCH to Long Beach where we all have brunch!

Have fun with the club and enjoy brunch...

....do you boneless, skinless thighs?

Kimmar - Yes. It is a lot easier than chicken (boned) pieces. And the thigh fillets take about the same amount of time to cook as the potatoes and the carrots. So, it's usually done in about 30 minutes.

You have a great memory, Brandi! That's the one.

Enjoy! That sounds like fun.

I thought maybe you and your DH might enjoy going down PCH to Huntington Beach in one of our convertibles. DS probably wouldn't like it so much, but it's a pretty drive, especially when the weather is nice.

OOH! That DOES sound like fun.

Happy last day of fall Monday.

I guess I was a victim of the site eating my post. I know I posted on Friday, because I told you all, all about my upcoming weekend. Oh well :confused3

PIO ~ Your fish parcel's look amazing. See, that is what I so love about all of you - you give me great ideas. I get in a rut and seem to fix that same ole thing. I tried curry for the first time (I know don't judge :rotfl2:) this weekend and I love it!!

Brandi ~ I so agree - Doug NEVER ever has gotten a cold sore and the minute he sees me with one he won't kiss me at all. And those suckers last way to long. ;) :rotfl2:

Alison ~ I am so glad you had a nice time with your parents.
I thought of you yesterday - In Lincoln they had a Car Show in the parking lot of one of the huge banks. There must of been at least 300 classic Vets. I know this isn't you type of cars but man oh man were they neat. And oh so many!!

Kim ~ I tried curry for the first time over the weekend and I have to say - I really liked it.

PIO & Alison ~ Why, oh why, when I picture you two driving in a convertible down the coast, do I automatically think of Thelma & Louise?

Well since my post on Friday didn't post I will now "tell" you about my weekend. :) I went to Lincoln on Friday and took Matthew and Katlin out to a very nice Indian restaurant down in the Hay Market. It was a beautiful night and we sat outside with a bottle of wine watching the people. >Just for the record Miami football fans aren't very nice.< Ordered way to much food and just shared - It was so good. We played Miami on Saturday and beat them. What a game!! Doug was on call and couldn't go so I took Lilly. She was so good and by half time she was asleep. Such a good girl. We got up on Sunday and went to Church. Matthew and Katlin were singing in the praise choir so I really wanted to go. Afterwards we went to brunch and did a bit of shopping. I got home last night around 9. Gee I was glad to see Doug! We all remarked that without him, there just was a real void all weekend.

WFDT ~ White fish, roasted potatoes and corn on the cob.

Make it a great day!!

Ellen - You tried curry and had Indian food? Good for you. Life will never be the same again without spice. :thumbsup2
Thelma and Louise??? :lmao: Great imagery!!!

WFDT? Spicy lentils and coleslaw. The boys had baked potatoes to go with their dinner.

We're heading to mum's for dinner tomorrow night. Looking forward to mum's cooking.
