The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

The Filo pastry here is made with oil. Is it made with butter there?

They do recommend that you brush the sheets with butter; but I used olive oil instead. I think it's a little strong for the filo and will try normal oil next time. DH thinks I can use ghee instead.

I guess so, it is listed as non vegan b/c of the butter.

Morning friends,

Sorry I was MIA yesterday - computer problems again. I think this time it is fixed right and will have no more problems. Oh what a pain!!

I am again playing catch up with not having a computer yesterday. At least this time it wasn't in the middle of bill and check writing. We have a conference here today so the church is buzzing. I am going to hide out in my office and hope no one sees me. :p

WFDT ~ I am helping with Faith Friends and we are having Spaghetti tacos. Doug is grilling himself a steak.

Make it a great day all.

Hope all your computer problems are solved and you are having a great day

Ellen - Glad you're back on. Kaput'er problems are the WORST!

Wow! That's so interesting to find out that your filo has butter. I had to go to the freezer to double check the ingredients list. The one I got definitely does not have any butter in it.

WFDT?

We had home made roast chicken breast with corn cob and green beans. DH had a pan fried salmon instead of the roast.

The chicken took about 45 minutes to roast and it was still pretty moist inside. DS asked when we would have it for dinner again; so I took that as a good sign.

Thursday was a pretty quiet day today. I'm really looking forward to the weekend.

when the kids or hubby ask when you will make it again, it is a very good sign.

For our anniversary dinner last night, I made tomato soup and vegan grilled "Cheese" sandwiches... So very exciting huh?

Terrific Thursday............Hi girls!

Brandi ~ Your dinner sounds about perfect!! I love the picture of you and David. Wow what a good looking couple. I hope your anniversary was a nice day.

PIO ~ Are you packed yet? :lmao: It is getting very close. I am sorry to see your SW trip report almost over so at least I get to look forward to this one.

We got curtains hung in the Living room last night. It was so funny as Doug has worked so hard getting everything perfect and the new window looks amazing and then we covered it all up. We do like it though. I need to get some tiebacks so at least during the day there is light in there. I do love it though!

WFDT ~ 3 ingredient (dry onion soup on the bottom, roast on top and a can of cranberry jelly on top) roast in the crockpot on High for 4 hours and then on low till dinner, mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. I can't wait to smell my house when I get home tonight. YUM!!

Make it a great day!

Thank you and yes we had a beautiful day! he told me last night that he did not need a special day to celebrate our marriage that he celebrated it every day.

Dinner sounds yummy, tonight dinner is Taco salad, made with Morning star Crumbles and vegan "Cheese"...

Hi ladies! Fran is keeping me busy. Yesterday we took a break from life. We had an early dinner at Mrs. Knott's and then killed some time at Disneyland before watching Gone With The Wind on the big screen at DTD. We didn't get home until midnight.

Today should be simpler. We're supposed to go get a new scooter today, bit Fran doesn't seem to want to get up this morning.

Brandi - If the Filo pastry would last the 15 hour flight, I'd bring you some.
Glad you had a great anniversary. It's not about the food; but the company....right?:thumbsup2

Ellen - I will be packing this weekend. And I'm pleased to see the end of that trip report. It took me nearly a year of constant posting to get through it all! Did you make the new curtains or buy them? Hope you get tiebacks you like. I can smell your house from here.

Alison - Sounds like you had a great day yesterday. Did you end up getting the new scooter?

thought that this was funny, made me think of PIO

That is a super funny clip! There are some things there that I thought you might find on your shelves. Still....the reaction to vegemite was priceless. :lmao:

We did get the new scooter yesterday. It's really spiffy. Even has a headlight. We threaded in three scooters, and got a little bit back on the new one. I'm not sure whether I didnt get enough sleep or just too much in the hot sun, but I was so tired yesterday. I tried to take a nap, but since I didnt start until 5PM, I probably would have ended up just going to bed. We were supposed to have Egg Fu Young, but instead I made hamburger helper.

Halleluiah it's FRIDAY!!!

Brandi ~ That David is a keeper for sure :thumbsup2

Alison ~ Which one of your got the new scooter?

PIO ~ I bet you are getting excited. No I didn't make the curtains. They have a thermal back on them so that would have been a pain to sew with.

OK I have a silly question. I was on the community board snooping around yesterday and realized you all are still posting on the last thread. Am I missing something?

Well I got my wish. It froze last night. But I am not a happy camper at all. They had predicted it for tonight so I didn't bring anything in or cover them. I am praying that all of my herbs will still be alright. The temps right now are around 40, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. You can be assured they will be in tonight. I have a nice East window all ready for them. I am hoping I will have fresh herbs all through the winter.

We are home for the weekend and I can't wait. I love going to Lincoln but man oh man do I need a weekend at home. I am hoping to get some meals in the freezer, some baking done and some cleaning done. To be truthful with you - I can't wait.

WFDT ~ Roasted chicken, roasted ranch potatoes and strawberry salad.

Make it a great day!!

Ellen - Fran always gets the new scooter.

We're mostly posting nonsense on the other thread. This is where we post most of our stuff.

Sometimes you just need to go to bed at 5 PM... I have had days like that for sure.

Glad you got the new scooter, and the up side, you got rid of three others in the process. That is a Win for sure...

yes I plan on keeping forever... I did a much better job picking one the second time... LOL

I am so ready for a weekend at home, I have so much to do, but it seems we are always out doing something football related. Hopefully soon...

but I am not holding my breath.

I am sure you are going to get so much done, here's to you and planning those freezer meals and getting everything done. You go girl!

Alison - Congrats on getting the hand-me-down scooter. :goodvibes ;)

Ellen - We tend to try and close out the thread by being the last to post. You're not missing anything at all. :rotfl:
Hope it doesn't get too cold for you....yet.

Brandi - David is definitely a keeper.

I finally got a bit more time in the garden and have pruned those lavender bushes back. I only have 3 of them but they are quite prolific and take a bit of time to prune.

I really need to get off the Dis soon and clean out my wardrobe. It's overflowing with stuff that I don't wear anymore and I need to do a decent spring clean.

I have no idea what's for dinner yet.

Have a great weekend all!

Well I finally made the Egg Fu Young. It was really good. I can't believe that I have waited this long to make it.

Alison - recipe?

I made Okonomiyaki for dinner last night. We have cabbage from the garden that I need to use up; so it was easy to do this meal.

Today, we had a big lunch out and no one feels like eating. So, we're just having salad.
