The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

We just go with beef. I have to go to the grocery store today before dinner. We don't have much in the house that isn't frozen or condiments. Or booze.

We some things frozen but we mostly have fresh stuff, and booze of course.

WFDT?

Spags Bol. DS wanted some of my comfort food. Soft pasta is about all we can cope with right now.

PIO - Hope you both feel better soon.

Last night for dinner we had Split Peas soup and Garlicky Kale.

We fly tonight to Cleveland. So who knows what we will eat until Monday night.

Have fun Brandi! I hear it's cold there this weekend.

We had tacos for dinner last night. Tonight will be steak, mashed potatoes and green beans.

Happy Friday all,

Brandi ~ Safe travels and have a good time. Be sure to get some toe warmers also. They keep your feeties nice and toasty.

PIO ~ you poor thing I sure hope you and DS turn the corner soon and start to feel better. DH isn't going to want to come home to all the cooties. :rotfl2:

Alison ~ I have thought a lot of you lately in your nice warm weather. I really do like winter and all that it brings, especially snow for Christmas, but January 1 it can go back to sunshine and 70.

It is so funny - yesterday the temp. when I was driving to work was 4, but the sun was shining and the wind was light. Today the temp is 19, but cloudy and the wind in blowing. I swear it was warmer yesterday. It is so funny how your mindset will play tricks on you. I always think it is warmer just seeing the sun and cooler when it is cloudy.

I am suppose to head to Kearney tomorrow to help Stephanie put the finishing touches on the nursery. But it is suppose to snow, Doug is on call and has to stay home, and I HATE to drive on snow. Plus with just getting a new car I have no idea how it will handle. This one is all wheel drive and that is different. I really want to go so I might just go early and come home early. I love winter except when it messes with my plans.

WFDT ~ Tacos, Spanish rice and fresh guacamole. You all made me hungry for them so that is dinner and booze of course. :lmao:

Make it a great day and weekend.

It snowed 13 inches last night in Ohio... Oh yeah for me!

Dinner sounds really good. Comfort food.

Have you tried online? What about camping shops or ski stores?
Hope you find some.

WFDT?

I made a simple chicken stew. Chicken thigh fillets cut into chunks, tossed in flour, salt and paprika and browned for a couple of minutes each side. Fry some leek and onion together for a couple of minutes. Add carrots and toss for 3 - 4 minutes in the pot. Add potatoes, sprigs of thyme, chicken stock and then place the browned chicken back in. Cook on medium for 10 - 15 minutes or until the vegies are tender.

Sunday night.

WFDT? We had pita bread pizza for dinner. I got a pack of pocket pita from our local Lebanese store. Got some tomatoes, artichoke, pitted olives, roasted bell peppers, prosciutto, cheese and tomato paste in my fridge and/or pantry, which we used to top the pita bread.

10 minutes in a hot oven....and it's a great dinner. It also lets my family customise their own version. DH didn't have any cheese....., DS had extra cheese. I guess it evens out.

Brandi - Hope Cleveland wasn't too cold and that you had a great time.

Ellen - I scrubbed out the house before DH came home. I sure didn't want him catching anything!!
BTW - I finished planting out the garden. I didn't put in a lot....but I've got about 6 each of red leaf lettuce and *** lettuce, 5 tomato plants, 4 squash seedlings, 2 Black Jack zucchini and 1 eggplant in. I don't want to overcrowd the beds and also because I think that we should have enough crop from those plants for the 3 of us. I also want to get some beans or snow peas. I think I have space for about 8 runners some where.

Alison - Hope the band went well this weekend (and yes, I know you're playing 'tomorrow' your time).

We had a very nice day today. Didn't do anything other than catch up with all of DH's news and his week in NorCal.
DS and I are feeling much better now and it'll be back to normal activities tomorrow.

Hope everyone is well.

We had Dungeness Crab, Caesar salad and Texas Toast for dinner last night. So yummy! We still have 2 1/2 crabs left. I'm gonna make crab cakes out of one and probably freeze the last one. Bret was very sweet to give me these that he caught on his uncle's boat.

That's a great sounding meal, Alison. So glad that you got some of those crabs that Bret caught! They looked fantastic.

Hope you had a great weekend.

WFDT?

We had hamburgers for dinner tonight. They were really yummy but it did make me think of the US. It must have also triggered a memory for DH as well. He wanted to know what our holiday plans were for next year. :)

It's MONDAY again!!

PIO ~ I am so glad you are feeling better. Your chicken stew was just what you needed with not feeling well.
Glad DH is home, I am sure you both missed him.

Alison ~ oh fresh crab - you lucky lady you!! Aren't friends the best!!

Oh my goodness I am so glad I made the decision to go to Kearney on Saturday, even if it was snowing and the roads were a mess. We got both bedrooms finished and I know Stephanie feels so much better. Shim (that is what they are calling the baby - they will not find out what the sex is, so for now it is Sh/im) will be here in just 9 weeks and that will fly with the Holidays. So at least now everything is as ready as it can be. We also rearranged Lilly's room. She was so sad to see her crib, changing table and dresser moved, but we moved in her new vanity and seat, dresser, new bed and all new bedding and she was so excited. They both look so cute.

I fixed a potato and leek soup yesterday that was amazing. Doug is not feeling too good so it hit the spot.

WFDT ~ Chicken pot pie.

Make it a great day all!!

I made the crab cakes last night. When I asked Fran what side dish she wanted, given her choices she picked spaetzle. I got some creamed spinach from the freezer. Strange combination but it was good.

Spaghetti and meat sauce sounds good. So does burgers. Im all out of ground beef though. I had tonight's dinner for last night so I dont know what we'll be having.

Today's goal is to get new phones. I dropped Fran's phone last week and totally cracked the screen. Our contract is almost up so I talked with a rep online and he said that we can get Galaxy S5 phones for the $35 upgrade fee.

Brandi,
PM me your address and I will send you some!!

I found some as we left on Friday, we picked them up right on the way to the airport.

So we tried them out Sunday at the game, and we could not tell that they were even on our shoes. No heat at all, now the hand warmers got hot and stayed hot, those things are great.

Cleveland was cold and it snowed a lot while we were there. We were up 3:25 this morning, making our way to the airport, flight at 6:10 and home by 7:45. I got changed and ready and was at work by 9:15.

Today will be a long day.
dinner tonight is a huge salad.
