The What's for Dinner Thread - August 2014 (recipe index in OP)

We had Dungeness Crab, Caesar salad and Texas Toast for dinner last night. So yummy! We still have 2 1/2 crabs left. I'm gonna make crab cakes out of one and probably freeze the last one. Bret was very sweet to give me these that he caught on his uncle's boat.

David would be so jealous! He loves Dungenness crab

It's MONDAY again!!

PIO ~ I am so glad you are feeling better. Your chicken stew was just what you needed with not feeling well.
Glad DH is home, I am sure you both missed him.

Alison ~ oh fresh crab - you lucky lady you!! Aren't friends the best!!

Oh my goodness I am so glad I made the decision to go to Kearney on Saturday, even if it was snowing and the roads were a mess. We got both bedrooms finished and I know Stephanie feels so much better. Shim (that is what they are calling the baby - they will not find out what the sex is, so for now it is Sh/im) will be here in just 9 weeks and that will fly with the Holidays. So at least now everything is as ready as it can be. We also rearranged Lilly's room. She was so sad to see her crib, changing table and dresser moved, but we moved in her new vanity and seat, dresser, new bed and all new bedding and she was so excited. They both look so cute.

I fixed a potato and leek soup yesterday that was amazing. Doug is not feeling too good so it hit the spot.

WFDT ~ Chicken pot pie.

Make it a great day all!!

Sounds like everything is coming together for shim's arrival.

and the soup sounds yummy. Got a recipe?

I made the crab cakes last night. When I asked Fran what side dish she wanted, given her choices she picked spaetzle. I got some creamed spinach from the freezer. Strange combination but it was good.

Spaghetti and meat sauce sounds good. So does burgers. Im all out of ground beef though. I had tonight's dinner for last night so I dont know what we'll be having.

Today's goal is to get new phones. I dropped Fran's phone last week and totally cracked the screen. Our contract is almost up so I talked with a rep online and he said that we can get Galaxy S5 phones for the $35 upgrade fee.

nice, David has a S3 and it is fading fast, and he can hardly use it. I think he wants to upgrade to the S5 also, but our contract is not up until May.

What a work day! I have a launch day tomorrow. At 5 pm today, I got a call....."there is a chance that we may delay launch. We're having a go/no meeting now."

At 6.30 pm, we finally made the decision to go, with minor tweaks. I ended up leaving work at 7.30 pm.

There's still launch day tomorrow to go. :faint:

WFDT?

I was so stressed by the afternoon that I came home and just ate a punnet of strawberries.

PIO I had to google how much a punnet of strawberries is.... So for us American's it is a pint of Strawberries... I learned something new today.

Dinner last night was a huge salad, romaine, mizzuna, frizz, arugula, bell peppers, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, cilantro, and butter leaf.

Good morning girlies,

Brandi ~ I agree, they don't heat up like the hand warmers do and I kept thinking that they weren't working also. But then I also realized my feet weren't cold either. You don't feel the heat but they keep them nice and toasty warm. When I got home and peeled them off of my socks I could really feel the heat.

PIO ~ Prayers are with you today for your launch. I hope all goes well, or at least as good as it can.
You need and deserve some comfort food.

Today was to be our coldest morning. When I finally got in the car it said -1. They say the wind chill (thank goodness the wind isn't blowing a lot) is at -22. But this afternoon it is to start warming up to the mid 30's. We have a game this weekend and by kick off they are saying it should be in the 40's. Good grief it will feel like a heat wave. I have already decided I am not going to the game. Matthew and Doug are going - it is just to cold for me. I am a fair weather spectator.

Twinks ~ I hope all is well with you.

WFDT ~ Chicken spaghetti and a kitchen sink salad.

Make it a great day!

I can't believe the temperatures you folks endure! I'm scared about how cold it will be in Seattle next week. We'll be on our flight a week from today.

Good luck with your launch PIO!

Last night we had chicken and bacon sausages with sauteed onions. I got some cole slaw and potato salad from the deli and dinner was easy.

We didn't get the phones. The cracked screen made Fran ineligible for the early upgrade. If we upgrade early we have to surrender our current phones, so we'll just wait a month or so and then we can get the phones for $25 per month. We may buy a tablet though, they are offering a deal right now that makes sense.

Tonight is band so we get fast food to eat on our way. I saw an ad for Subway that two of my favorite sandwiches are only $2 during the holidays. That sounds like a good option for dinner tonight.

Oh the irony!

Everything was ready for launch. The only stickler was that the directors were still discussing about whether we launch or not 30 minutes before they had the media announcement. We had to hold the public webpage updates until they sorted it out. It went down to the wire for the public webpage. But everything else was smooth sailing.

Good morning Ladies,

Yesterday I had to go outside of the Church around 2 and was bracing myself for the fridged cold. What I found was actually a heat wave and it felt really nice. Came back in and looked at my phone and it said 51 :o REALLY!!! It is -1 at 8am and 51 at 2pm. Only in Nebraska!!! We are to be in the 30's today and it is welcomed by all. I am sure thankful I don't live in Buffalo, good grief did you see that they got 6' of snow. Oh my!!

The farmers around here predicted a cold and snowy winter also by the big black fuzzy caterpillars that were everywhere here. I would drive home down our gravel road and be able to see them and dodge them. They were everywhere. I will listen to the Farmers almanac and stories like this way before I would ever listen to the Gov. The farmers know what they are talking about as do the animals and insects.

Alison ~ To bad about the phones. Are they still useable even with the cracked screen?

PIO ~ YEA.....I think :dance3: on the launch. I hope all went as well as it could.

WFDT ~ Pumpkin pancakes, fried eggs and bacon.

Make it a great day!

I'm gald that your weather was better than expected Ellen. I'm watching the new about Buffalo and can't even fathom what that must be like. I'm still fretting about packing for Seattle.

My dinner last night was a $2 sub from Subway. My two favorite sandwiches there are $2 for the holiday season. Meatball and Cold cut combo. I had the meatball. Something tells me that we will be having a lot of subway in the next month or so.

I hope that after all the hemming and hawing that your launch went off without a hitch, PIO!

Alison - All good on the western front. Aside from the hemming and hawing, my side of things went very well.

Ellen - Glad the weather is better there for you. I've been reading about Buffalo and the snows there. I sure wouldn't like to be caught in that kind of weather!

Kimmar - :thumbsup2. Been catching up on your thread.

WFDT? I have no idea. But it is going to be a hot day today; so I'm going to think about watering the vegies first before thinking about dinner. :)

WFDT? My DS marinated some venison and he is cooking that for his GF, my DH, and himself....I'll just heat up some leftovers.....:confused3

Happy Thursday girlies,

KImmar ~ Welcome back  Gee, I really missed you. And I am so glad that I was nosey and clicked on the link for Alison. I can't wait to read your trip report. I am going there as soon as I get off here and subscribe. Woohoo.......the gang's all here. :cool1:

PIO ~ so glad to hear the launch went good. I thought of you all day and was hoping it was good.

Alison ~ Sweetie, even I can't imagine that much snow. :faint: I hope we never get anything like that or our farm would be no more. Cows can NOT live in that or any other livestock for that matter. Bless them!!
I saw the advertisement for the $2 subs - I love the cold cut one so I also see that in my future. You just can't beat the price.

I have so much to do today that I really should not be on here but I just had to sneak in. We are "Hanging the Greens" this Sunday. Can you believe that the next Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent? I truly can NOT believe that the Christmas Holiday is right around the corner. And Thanksgiving is a week from today. Good grief!! It should still be June. :confused3 I am one that just can't think of Christmas before we celebrate Thanksgiving. I am having a real hard time in the stores and watching TV with all of the Christmas stuff already.
Matthew will be home for Thanksgiving and our Albuquerque family will be here on Tuesday so the fun will begin. I hope to get the outside lights up while Matthew is here to help.

WFDT ~ Planed over as we will be going to Lincoln for the weekend. Doug will be thrilled. NOT :rotfl2:

Make it a great day!

So our feet were really cold the whole time and when we peeled the off the socks they were not hot at all. I even checked the expiration date and it is not until 2018, but they did not work at all. :(

It was 15 here this morning and I was not too happy getting out in this weather.

hope you enjoy your "heat" wave

WooHoo :cool1: It's Friday!!

Brandi ~ They aren't that expensive - try them again. They really do work! You must have gotten a bad pair.

I am so excited, as at noon Doug and I are headed to Lincoln. This is our last home game and we play Minnesota. Who knows if we will win or not. Don't care, I just love the excitement of the town on a game day weekend. It is suppose to be nice - mid 50's so that will help.

WFDT ~ We are eating down in the new Rail Yard. I have no idea where but I do know it will be good and a lot of fun.
GO BIG RED!!

Make it a great day and a wonderful weekend.

The bag we bought has 6 pairs in it so I will try the others and see how they do. But it was freezing that day. It has been a long time since I was that cold.

Hope you have lots of fun at the game and enjoy!

....I've updated it, if you want to read some more....:thumbsup2

It's a heat wave here. We're in the 30 C (high 80's/90's) and I'm enjoying the weather. I sure hope that it doesn't get too much warmer than this during the summer. If this is an early taste, then summer could potentially be real stinky hot.

WFDT? We're going to help a friend celebrate his 50'th birthday. I have it on good authority that lasagne is on the menu. Here's hoping that it's decent!
