The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

:dancer:Happy Birthday Jacob!!!!!!:dancer:

----------------------

Aimee, that banner is so pretty. What pretty wood work in the church. Enjoy decompressing...I hope that someone :rolleyes1gets a hint to go buy you your chicken!

Glynis, I have some peanut lovers over here as well. Please share if it is good my DH & DSS might like this for Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving is right around the corner and .......shhhhhhhhhhhh, but I am not into it at all this year. I will be cooking for my family, DSS, DSD, her hubby and DSGS. DH's birthday actually falls on Thanskgiving. Does anyone else not enjoy turkey after cooking it all day??

Yes! I'm with you, Ann! I do enjoy the cooking, but spending an entire day cooking, and then being expected to enjoy the meal is asking a bit too much. I decided not to worry about it this year. Dad is coming, and he called and ordered a turkey, fully cooked. We'll pick it up an hour before we eat, and all I have to worry about are the side dishes. Not too bad, eh? All I have to do is mash potatoes, yams, dressing, rolls and a veggie. Hooray!!! Since I only have one oven, this really makes my life so much easier!

Vickie Sorry "the Boy" is sick :hug:pixiedust:pixiedust: that it is not you know what. There is quite enough yuckies going around. Watch him carefully Strep and bronchitis is making more of the rounds.

Maria :cool1::cheer2::cheer2::woohoo: For Emily. Do you have my phone number? I am about an hour west of Chicago.

I must toot my own horn, the collards turned out really good. I used mostly chicken stock a just a little water. It took most of the bitterness out.

Happy Birthday Jacob

Well it's official Emily is off to Chicago!!!!!!! Dad has approved!
She has to be in Chicago December 28th! She'll have corporate housing 3 blocks from the theater. Of course, my cousin (her Mom) will go with her first but them my Aunt, DM & myself will be her chaperones......Looks like we may do 2 weeks at a time.

Hooray for Emily!!! What an exciting opportunity!!! I wish I was anywhere close to Chicago so I could come see the show! I loved it in London!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Jacob. He was thrilled to see them all!

Dinner turned out really well. He told me that my salmon patties were not as good as Grandma's, but they are a close second. I "just need to practice more." Think that's a hint???

The cake was incredible! Very dense and rich!!! I got it from the same blog the caramel popcorn came from. Here's the link to the cake recipe.

Let me know if you try it and like it!

Glynis That cake sounds more noisy than the popcorn. I have to make that cake! Yum

:yay::yay::yay:

I meant to say earlier that the squares on the banner were all tie dyed by the kids last month; I had someone way more talented than I am piece them together into a mosaic pattern. The same person made a stole for me to wear today that matched it! :woohoo:

Sounds like a great compromise! Good food and a little help :thumbsup2

I have never made a good collard green. I have decided that there is no way for me to make them and have given up

Holy Peanut Butter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I am going to make this as my contribution to Gail's family meal in December.

I felt badly for that single Mom last night. She said she paid over $3000 for that trip and while her little girl was happy she never got to meet one Princess. The only character meal she was able to get into was GG in Epcot. She had been told to book her meals on the day she wanted them.

Happy Monday, everyone! It's looking to be a pretty good day, here. We are supposed to get a storm sometime this week, so I've got stuff to do before then. Namely, get rid of the rest of the leaves on the ground!

I'm not sure about dinner, yet. I haven't done my weekly menu planning, yet. Gotta get that done! I just wish Alan hadn't thrown away my ads! Now I'm not sure where the good sales are!

Have a great day, all!

Hey y'all,

Belated Happy Birthday to Jacob!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BETHANY!

We had a nice day yesterday. A's party was at the Children's Museum, she had A LOT of kids show up & she had a blast!:lovestruc I'll post some pics later on FB. Then DD & DSIL came home with us to watch the game, DBob got another b-day meal, Josh grilled steaks for us. Plus somehow our Saints won! So it was a good day.

Nancy, I feel so bad for Gail! :sad1: Her co-worker is a real piece of work.

Vickie, Sorry your bairn is sick! Sending prayers o'er the water for him! :flower3: Also sad that your footie is doing so poorly. :sad1:

Laura, Glad you apptzrs went over so well! :goodvibes

Becky, Mmmm fish tacos!!! :thumbsup2 Pizza looks delicious too!

Aimee, Glad the day went well, the banner is great!

We are looking good as far Ida this morning. Some schools in the area are closed, but not A's. So it's a pretty regular day here, pick up some outdoor furniture & plants but not much else. I have leftovers still, but I might cook a pot of beans, in case we get any overnight guests. ( With the generator we'll have power :))

Happy Birthday Bethany!

Sheryl- I'm glad Alexis had a great time and I'm glad your Saints one since we all know there winning streak will come to an end November 30th.

Becky (or anyone else)- I've been thinking about getting a pizza stone, are they all pretty much the same or do you think there is a certain one I should get?

Aimee- The banner is beautiful, you must love your matching stole. Your church is lovely, it reminds me of the one where I grew up. I always thought woodwork, organ pipes, and stained glass windows were standards for churches but over the years I've seen others and they just aren't as nice.

Glynis- I'm glad Jacob enjoyed his birthday.

Maria- That's great for Emily, I'm sure it just took her dad a bit of time for it to set in.

I have no idea what's for dinner and I don't really care. You all can add me to the list of people bearing bad news. My gram passed unexpectedly last night. She was 90 but there was nothing wrong with her. I just saw her last week when we went trick or treating and she was fine. I'm dreading talking to my mom because I know the tears will really start then.

Oh Robin, I am so sorry

Aimee – The banner the kids made is so pretty!

Ann – I decided the day after Thanksgiving last year that I’m not cooking this year. I spent $$$ and three days cooking and it is not worth it for the three of us so we’re eating out this year. No clean-up and no leftovers!

Vick – How is the boy feeling today?

Nan – How awful for that woman and her DD. I wonder how many other folks that has happened to?

Maria – WooHoo, so excited for Emily! Can’t wait to see the pics of your dinner!

Janice – A little honey works wonders on greens!

Robin – I’m so sorry for your loss. Cherish your memories and know she will always be with you. If the Saints keep playing as bad as they have the past two weeks they won’t be undefeated much longer.

Happy Birthday Bethany!!!!

Looks like Ida will be a rain event and not much more for us, thank God!

Sorry I posted my other reply before I wrote everything.

Vickie -- I'm sorry your boy is sick. I hope he is feeling better this morning.

Wow, Nancy that is really terrible! I wonder who gave her such bad information? :confused3

Happy Birthday Bethany!

Kathy, Sheryl, Lauri and Bethany -- I'm glad to hear Ida shouldn't affect you too much.

Dinner tonight is pan-fried sole. Becky bought too much fish yesterday, so I have the three filets we didn't cook. I think I have some spinach in the refrigerator, so I'll make that and maybe some rice.

Sheryl- I'm glad Alexis had a great time and I'm glad your Saints one since we all know there winning streak will come to an end November 30th.

Oh no Robin! You did not just go there!!! ;)

Jake Delhomme was undefeated in the Dome.....NO LONGER, he went DOWN!
I'm sorry but I'm putting the Gris-Gris on your Pats, they too wil fall in the LaBREESiana Superdome!
