The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Good Morning All~

Bethany, I'm glad your ok, that could have turned into a very bad situation.

Wendie, how close are you to Kennebunkport?

Ann, was hoping for a Baptism update......

Kat, how is Kyle? I thought about him forst thing this morning:confused3

Nan, saving those wine bottles for ya! Just trying to do my part;)

I can't get onto Farmville so I'm not a happy camper right now.

Today is my Mom's birthday & I'm so sad she won't be around.

Dinner tonight is pork loin stuffed with dried apricots, cherries & figs.

Good morning everyone,

Wow!!! I had a very busy weekend. Another funeral on Saturday (non member this time) and they requested brunch. So I fixed omlets and cinnamon rolls. We planned for 100 and served 120. We fed each and every one but there was not a morsel left over. Thank goodness!! It is now November - thank goodness - and my committee is done. But would you believe we have a funeral again this morning. Not my problem today though.

We went in to Elizabeth & Jay's for Halloween. Elizabeth took Ethan out and Doug and I handed out candy. We had 348 kids. I couldn't believe how many kids came to the door. What cuties we had!!

Yesterday after church we decided to go out to lunch. It was just the 2 of us and was really nice. It was a beautiful day and we were out in it. The sun was shining for a change.

WFDT ~ Turkey chili with a vegetable tray and homemade sourdough bread.

I need to read back and I will - and will BBL

Morning all! Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend. Yesterday's dinner was a thanksgiving warm-up. We had turkey breast, andouille cornbread stuffing and roasted broccoli and cauliflower. Tonight will be junk food - popcorn chicken, pizza rolls, cheese sticks, meat pies, etc. to go with the football game tonight. I work two blocks from the superdome and the parking lots around the building are filled with tailgaters! They are even setting up a stage in one of them. Its gonna be crazy later.

Glynis - I'm so happy that your Dad is coming in for Thanksgiving.

Bethany - how scary. I'm glad that you and Annabelle are okay.

Lauren - I probably missed you, but I hope you have a great trip!!
Alex and I raked and mulched over 10 bags of leafs. There is still more to do but he and I couldn't pick up one more leaf. Right now I am finishing the laundry. I am afraid to lay down thinking I will never unbend again. :rotfl2:

Gladly, this is not a problem we have. While there are a ton of trees behind our property, there are none on ours. And the ones behind us - they're mostly pine, and the few that do drop leaves on our property we're able to mulch with the lawnmower.

Hi everybody! I hope you all had a good weekend. We had fun with the kids, John took Liam out trick or treating and my Mom and I handed out candy at Laura's. I put up some pictures of their costumes as well as Caili skating yesterday on facebook.

Bethany, I would have been really scared of that pit bull. I am afraid of big dogs, especially agressive dogs. I got knocked over and jumped on by a german shepard in college, so now I try and avoid dogs when I can. Little dogs and friendly dogs like labs are OK, but I could not be near a pit bull.

Here are photos from yesterday. Laura made this nice ceasar salad:

And i made seafood fra diavolo:

Dinner tonight is going to be cider-braised chicken, buttered egg noodles, and spinach.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I bought our plane tickets for next month's Disney trip last night! It looks like Greg is not going to be able to join us (he can't get leave), but we booked our ADRs for 6 people anyway, just in case something changes. We have adrs at Ohana (breakfast), Jiko, BlueZoo, Kona Cafe (lunch), Rose and Crown, Raglan Road (lunch), California Grill, Artist Point, and Coral Reef. Now I just have to finalize which house to book. I think we are going to stay in Windsor Hills this time. The house we've rented for the past few years in Emerald Isle seems to be off the rental market.

Sounds like great meals in store for all of you. Praying that Greg is able to get leave!

You have had a lot of work lately!

I wish we had as many kids as you have had. I would not be able to give them full size bars but it sure would be fun!

Nan, saving those wine bottles for ya! Just trying to do my part;)

Today is my Mom's birthday & I'm so sad she won't be around.
You are the best! Marisa is going to contact you, she always drives.

Please wish your Mom a Happy Birthday for me!

Aimee - Thanks to Janice, I'm back online with the ADR's! Make sure you're putting in the correct phone # when trying to retrieve them. I had the same problem a few months back.
Thanks for the tips!

Dad called last night, and confirmed that he's coming to my house for Thanksgiving!!!! We are all so excited! I'm doubly excited because it means that Alan will finally finish some of the "honey do" projects around the house!!!

Excellent!

I think that 3 out of 4 of Gails kids are home this year for Thanksgiving. Kim will be home the following week. She is a CM at DL and cannot get time off before that. I am hosting dinner, which will be easier, I think Marisa will still be here. Buddy has been growling that the house is too small, all those people...yup he is in his glory! He will complain about all the food, the work and that we are squished all the while making me cook more meat, more desserts, more stuff to make sure no one is hungry :lmao:The last time both Chris and Timmy were here for dinner he made me cook three family packs of steak from Costco. That was with a big package of chicken for the girls! He is positive the Marine Corps is starving them! Timmy told him the food is really good in comparison to what it used to be but Chris made the mistake of telling him that there were labels about the fitness for human consumption when he was first over in Iraq and now Bud is worried that they are malnourished :rotfl:

Gail is having a family dinner the following week when Kim is here, I really hope that Chris is still here, they have not been all together since Chris graduated boot camp in 2001. My niece is also coming in from AZ on Thanksgiving night. I hope that she, her Dh and Little Vinnie are able to join us all for that family dinner, I am a little teary just thinking about it.

Dinner is going to be Paula's fried pork chops, a baked potato of some kind and a veggie.

BBL!

Kat, how is Kyle? I thought about him forst thing this morning:confused3

He's OK, he's still struggling with managing his money and his grades are well below where we'd like them to be. Everyone tells me it's fairly normal because it's his first time away from home but he'd better get himself together or he'll be coming home.:rolleyes1

Ann - How was the baptism?

Becky - Sounds like some awesome meals ahead for y'all! I surely hope Greg can join you!

Good morning everyone, hope you all had a great weekend. We had a great halloween- a party at the library, trunk or treat, and then trick or treating on our street (only about 10 houses.) Fortunatly she got very little candy I like, so there's not much temptation! But, my mom did get me a case of 24 nutrageous king size bars, my favorite. Then on sunday we went to see Astro Boy, I could have done without that, but the other two wanted to see it.

Bethany- I try really hard not to be breed prejudice, I grew up with german shephards, but I just don't trust pitt bulls. We had two at the end of our road that got banned from our town. I'm glad you were able to get Annabelle to a safe spot. The dog I have now is part chow, and if I had known that I never would have gotten him, but he turned out to be the biggest baby in the world.

Wendie- Welcome back, I have been wondering how you have been. I prefer when the docks are put in the water rather than taking them out!

Becky- How fun, we booked our train tickets a few weeks ago and we are still excited about it. I hope Greg is able to fill that sixth spot. I haven't been to Artist's Point in years, we're thinking of going in Feb.

Ellen- Yikes! 348 kids! I don't think we had ten, it's sounds like a lot of fun though.

Maria- Happy Birthday to your mom! Sorry you can't spend the day with her.

Hope everyone is well, I just get so behind over the weekend. I'm going out for dinner with some friends from work, so leftover pork and roasted potatoes for my husband and kiddo. I'll have to find a veggie for them so they don't forget.

Hi everyone (and Wendie :cool1: - so good to see you back). I didn't post this weekend because in the continuing medical saga that my life has become, I developed vertigo. :headache: I'm on something now so I made it to work ok, but honestly I didn't feel better until last night. Just in time to have to empty my freezer that died! I could have cried throwing all that food out.

Anyway, I have no idea what we are having for dinner tonight, maybe meatloaf. Check back later.

Maria - I'd like to wish your mom a very Happy Birthday!

Gretchen - Girlfriend, I can sympathize with you, vertigo is horrible. Prayers for you, you've certainly had a rough go lately.

Bethany -- That is really scary about the dog. I would have been terrified. I am glad you and Annabelle are okay.

Nancy -- You are going to have such a great Thanksgiving! I'm sure no one will mind the space. It will just be nice to have everyone together.

I'll have to find a veggie for them so they don't forget.

Mine would forget anyway. Have fun tonight!

Maria -- Happy Birthday to your mom.

Ellen -- Wow, that is a lot of kids! I don't know how many we had, but it was not nearly that many. It also wasn't as many as I bought candy for...I have a lot left over.

Gretchen -- Vertigo is horrible! I'm glad you're feeling better now, and I'm sorry about the freezer. You have been through too much lately.

Kathy -- I think it takes a while to learn time and money management. I wish Kyle luck!

Glynis -- I'm glad your dad is coming for Thanksgiving.

I think I am making broccoli cheddar soup for dinner. I'll make mac and cheese for the kids because they don't eat soup. :confused3

And it's finally STOPPED RAINING!!!!:yay::dance3::yay: We've had 8 days of sun in October--and just yesterday we had 5 inches of rain. We're on track for an all time record for rain in a year here. Crazy!

I have a friend who lives in Arkansas too, he posted pics on FB of his flooded yard. :scared1:

I feel like I need to warn you all! Don't make that caramel pop corn if you are thinking of dieting or dieting. I could eat the entire bowl myself. I wrapped it up so it's muffled cries won't haunt me tonight. :rotfl2:

I couldn't find the pumpkin kisses so I am thinking of trying it with the Candy Corn ones instead.

Was an okay couple of days. Missed the first football game, my friend sent me to the wrong park :headache: but it had just ended anyway. For the second game, it was a pain, freezing and I had to park a long distance away from the field. The school's parking lot and the field itself are set up kind of weird. And they lost the game.

I swear they just picked the Ref's up on a street corner somewhere! The one ref spent more time checking to make sure the people on the sideline were not over the yellow line (which is about 2 feet from the edge of the playing field) then what he was supposed to be doing. I have heard more parents yelling about missed calls and stupid calls this year then in all the years the boys have played football! :sad2:

Got my yard all set up Friday night and Saturday morning then it rained off and on. We did still have a lot of kids show up though. The bad thing is, I couldn't find my fogger, but the good is lots of the kids asked where it was. :yay: I am known as the lady with the best Halloween decorated yard.

Dinner tonight will be leftover chicken and roasted potatoes from last night. Going out to IKEA and Wegman's.

Wendy ~ I am so glad to see you again. You were so missed. Welcome back!! I have thought of Ross and how he was doing.

Lauren ~ I am sure I am to late but I hope you have a GREAT trip. I can't wait to see pictures.

Glynis ~ Wow, you rock young lady. Those grades are wonderful. Good for you! So happy Dad will be there for Thanksgiving.

Bethany ~ how scary for you and Annabelle. I am so glad that pickup was there to protect her and you weren't bit.

Gretchen ~ sweetie - ENOUGH is ENOUGH! Wow, the old saying, "If you didn't have bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all" really applies. Just remember - this too will pass!! I only pray it is really soon.

Kathy ~ Kyle will be ok. It is always hard that first year. He is a good kid, he will figure it out. How are you feeling? I worry about you.

Nancy ~ WooHoo on the family for Thanksgiving. There just isn't anything better than family. You will have a ball.

Maria ~ Thanks so much for your help this morning. I so appreciated it. Please tell your Mom Happy Birthday.

Robin ~ Elizabeth & Ethan went to see Astro Boy also yesterday. Elizabeth said it was just ok. Ethan loved it. Go figure!

Zip ~ I could send you some of my leaves if you are feeling left out. ;)

Becky ~ loved the pictures. Have fun planning

Laura ~ I know!! I was keeping track each time someone came to the door. When Elizabeth got home she counted them up. There were times they were 1/2 down the walk way to the door, waiting their turn. I do know for 45 minutes I never left the front door.

Have a great day everyone!!

Hey y'all, sounds like Sheryl could use some good thoughts and prayers, she just sent me this:

"I wanted you to know that I haven't checked in on our threads cause I'm really sick. Hit me yesterday afternoon like a ton of bricks. I went to the dr., I have a bad sinus infection & he thinks ( although he didn't test me?) swine flu. He gave me lots of meds, a steroid injection, antibiotics, tamiflu, steroids & a cough medicine and told me to take mucinex dm. He said I should feel better quickly. I hope he's right."

Lots of good thoughts, hugs and prayers for you my friend, call if you need me!

I am back ...briefly Emma is gonna want to eat soon.

Baptism was beautiful. My girl was the only baby out of the five that slept the whole service. She opened her eyes once the water hit her head then right back out again. :goodvibes Party was turned out well, fun chaos...wine helped. DM really was a huge help.

Halloween was also nice.

BBL, to try to catch up...please fill me in if I missed anything big the couple of days I was busy.

Who wants to send me a fall icon for my siggy???

WFD - party leftovers...I had nothing but party fixings in the fridge.

Augh, I don't know how you deal with all of that! I hope the med stays working.

Oh, poor Sheryl! I hope the TamiFlu does the trick and she's able to bounce back quickly. Thanks, Kathy.

I'm so glad it went well!

This is a crazy busy week - Sunday is Children's Sabbath and I'm doing that dance between making the service what it's been, or what I want it to be, and working with a fairly new pastor who may or may not have strong opinions on it... so far, so good, but a lot of work.

I'm planning on the baked pastina with sausage tonight but the kitchen is a disaster I refuse to cook in a dirty kitchen. If DH opts to not clean it when he gets home, we'll do something else. ;)

 Sheryl, I hope you feel better real fast. I wish I was closer to help you out.

Ann ~ I am so glad yesterday went good. I knew it would but glad you thought so. Aren't Mom's the best. Mine was just like yours - so wonderful. I miss her so much. You have a lot to be thankful for my friend.

Sheryl I hope the med's kick in quickly

Kathy Computers haunt me too. I am glad I could help you out. I just remember disney uses pop ups and the virus protections don't like pop ups. My virus protection gives me fitts but it is bundled in with my DLS and I am not paying for anything else, I am too cheap. I would rather just grumble about it.

Bethany very glad you and Annabelle are ok. I don't like any dog big or little out loose. There was a little chihuahua down the street that would wander loose all the time barking and attacking your shoes. I wanted to accidentally of course run that menance over with my car:rolleyes1

Ellen We had way less than 50 kids. Mostly really young kids. I have soo much leftover candy.

Lauri I would gladly ship you some leaves I have plenty to share;)

Ann Glad this weekend went well.

Sheryl, thinking of you...get well soon! I wonder where you contracted it???
