The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Thanks to everyone for the kind, supportive words. I'm feeling a bit better now that I'm back on track at the gym, today was my first day going back but I already feel better!

Lauren – I know how it feels to feel like there is something more you could have done to prevent what happened to Riley. I still think there is more I could have done for Sammie. I’m sure it’s a natural thing because we love our pets so much and they can’t tell us what’s going on with them. I’ve always said that veterinarians should be paid more than doctors for that reason. I’ll pray that he continues to improve and know in your heart that you did everything you could to help him. Let me know if you did the meatloaf in the crockpot and if you did how it turned out.

Glynis – Stay safe in that weather.:scared1: I’m still praying for a touch of autumn down here.

Ann – I’m sorry you had to cancel your trip but you’ve got a new trip scheduled so let the planning begin!:goodvibes

Aimee – I’m back on the diet/exercise bandwagon full speed ahead. I gained 5 lbs with the ankle/vacation thing and I’m determined to get back on track. I always tell myself that nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. I’m here to support you anyway I can!:thumbsup2

Nan – Definitely investigate that price/test and keep us posted, I’m curious to hear what you find out!

Lori – I did the same thing, I almost forgot about Dad’s anniversary with vacation and I didn’t remember until Sunday. Felt guilty for not thinking of it sooner. Hugs to you my friend.

Sheryl – I’m sorry you’re still feeling bad, hugs and prayers. I forgot to tell you but every night we had dinner at Universal Johnny commented on missing Bob and talking about lipstick!

Ellen – I’m glad you had a good appt with the Dr!

Marilyn – Add me to the list of those who hope your niece doesn’t quit, hoping she can work through this.

ARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!! I've tried three times to post and my stupid computer has locked up each time! I still feel like crud so I didn't take any notes and my brain can't hold onto a thought but for a second so I'm missing so much, please forgive me.

Ann - Happy Birthday to Luke! I hope my family's experience wasn't the reason you cancelled. However, having said that, our experience in the urgent care was not pleasant and we heard lots of families saying it was their second and third trip there that week. It must be a major $$$$$ making operating they are running there.

Lori - Loved the cheese/wine report. That looked like a blast

Becky - I hope you feel better after your day off.

Laura - How is the skating costume coming? Are you sewing the whole thing or adding the embellishments?

Ellen - I think Matthew sounds like he is in as good a place as you can expect right now. You just hate to see him hurting.

Lauren - How's the house selling going?

Kat - Not much I can say, Mom and I were just discussing how much we were dreading the upcoming holidays.

Sheryl - I hate pictures of me, but I won't object to having them up. And BTW, Mom was saying today how much fun she had. It was a real blast for me too.

I have no earthly idea what we are having for dinner tonight. I don't have any energy and don't feel like cooking so we'll see what we can pick up. Maybe chinese.

Tomorrow I go back to work and I'm sure my desk will be swamped so don't be concerned if I can't check in tomorrow.

I just wanted to say thank you to you all for DS's birthday wishes. I pointed out each and everyone. He is lucky to have so many extra aunties!

I am sitting here waiting for my parents to arrive early as usual. DS fell asleep on the floor, and DD fell asleep in her pack in play while I was finishing tidying up. My house is so peaceful right now!

I won't probably be on till the morning, talk then.

Gretchen - I will be thinking of you and your Mom. The first holiday season was extremely hard for me so PLEASE lean on me if you need to and call anytime.

Ellen- WOO HOO! :cheer2::cheer2:

I had also quoted Laura about this but it's not here. Oh well, I hope she doesn't either. I think for her it's just a little overwhelming to go from 25 meters to doing 500's in such a short period of time. On top of that I don't think she is swimming with anyone from her summer swim league. She does one in their neighborhood during the summer and they do not have an indoor facility to do the big stuff during the winter. They do more of a keep up the skills thing and don't do any competition stuff. She has lots of friends from school on the summer league and only kids she sees at practice and meets during the winter.

And the 9 yo fangs have come out, my sister is ready to give her to anyone who will take her! :rotfl:

:rotfl::rotfl: It starts earlier and earlier!

Order out and get rest. You must be exhausted and the flu is taking it's toll

AImee- I understand the "better offer" Welby asked me to go to supper with her for fish and chips. There is a local restaurant that crafts their own beer and make the batter with that. OH gosh, that fish is to die for! Well, I have to weigh in b the end of the month so I have been trying to undo the damage. It killed me to say NO.

Sheryl- heading to FB now!

I spoke to the Dr. He wants to talk to the lab to see what they will do. He said he intends to treat whatever Buddy has aggressively but that the test will help him to see what is going on.

Nancy Make sure your insurance company is aware of Buddy's family history that may sway the appeal in your favor.

Gretchen glad you are feeling better.

Kathy, Lori Hugs to both of you

I have forgotten what I wanted to say now. Hersey is busy emptying the upstairs garbage for me. Isn't he swell :rolleyes1 Who wants a 60 lb lap dog?

Well, I finally decided on dinner. We are having fiesta ravioli. It's quick, warm and spicy. Good for a very cold evening! We ended up not having as much snow in the valleys as they were predicting, but the mountains are very definitely white! Our temperatures are frigid, though. I don't think we've hit 30 degrees today. Brr!

I found the pumpkin spice kisses at Target today, so I think I'll make some of the caramel popcorn that I think Janice posted, and we can munch on that while we watch "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" tonight. Should be fun.

Aw, yes, Winston enjoys that hobby as well. Our anti-tip kitchen can was easily tipped and sorted while at work one day so it's now in our pantry. Hassle, but at least I'm not cleaning up trash everyday!

DH convinced me to head for Taco Tuesday instead of cook. Who am I to complain :confused3:laughing:

Ok, that pumpkin caramel corn should be AGAINST THE LAW!!! It is incredible!!! It was also easy, and just sinfully delicious! You should all try it! Now, I'm wondering what other flavor combinations I can do with the flavored kisses! Oh the Christmas possibilities!

Thanks for the warning. I am going to be making both the pumpkin and chocolate popcorn for our party saturday. We are having a potluck while the kids treak or treat. Did you use the kettle corn or just regular popcorn?

I am off in search of other recipes for saturday. For some reason I am clueless lately. I am getting bored with the same ole same ole.

Good morning everyone! Tired of waiting for cold weather to come so I'm making a pot of vegetable soup if I get home in time, if not we'll have breakfast for dinner.

I used the kettle corn. It really was incredibly easy! I want to try the chocolate popcorn, now!

I'm also thinking the chocolate cherry kisses would make a yummy taste on the popcorn. Then, too, there are chocolate mint kisses at Christmas. Oh, man! The choices, the possibilities!

Definitely wait until after Friday's weigh in to make this popcorn. You will seriously want to eat the entire batch yourself!

Good morning! I'm posting from the ARCTIC!!! Seriously, I don't know how it could be any colder!!! The snow they were predicting for yesterday morning, finally hit us at about 8:00 last night. We ended up with a couple of inches on the ground, and it looks pretty, but cold! I'm hoping we've seen the last of it for a while. However, the forecast for Halloween is a cold rain. Yuck! Not fun trick or treating weather! Hopefully, I can talk the kids into going out fairly early.

Today is another day of errands. Got to run to the library, and to grocery store, and I'm hoping I can do that before the weather gets bad again. Then I'm home for the afternoon. We have a family Halloween party at the church tonight. The kids get to go "trunk or treating", and then they will play carnival games in the church. Should be fun!

Dinner tonight will be chili cheese dogs with french fries. Fast, easy and filling before an evening of candy.

Have a great day, everyone!!! I'll bbl to chat!
