The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Ellen I don't have any pearls of wisdom. I am with you though I would be hurt even if that wasn't their intention. I take things to heart.

Tonight is library so dinner will be quick. 2 nights and I will not been working in the spare room. Tomorrow some friend and I go the see Julie and Julia. I hope it lives up to my expecations.

Prayers to all of the rest of you. I thank the good Lord everyday for each of you. I am so glad I finally clicked on the reply button so I could know you all. That was a great day!! Thanks so much for your friendship. It means the world to me.

I'm glad you hit reply, too!

Be sure and post what you think about it - I really want to see it and thought about going to a matinee alone on Sat. DH will be out of town.

We had Mickey D's for dinner :sad2: Got home, pulled out the recipe, and it was a crockpot meal :rotfl:

THANK YOU THANK YOU Hopefully this works I've wanted to know this too.

You're welcome. :goodvibes

Thanks Bethany I finally figured out the multiple quote I am no good with computors you are a GREAT teacher.

You're welcome. :goodvibes And thanks...:)

Well there you have it. I am trying so hard to get my mind in a better place with this but I just can't.

 I agree with everything that has already been said on this. Since you work there, it's a bit of an awkward situation for everybody.

Thanks for the lesson, but you may have created a monster if I did this right.

That sounds so good. Do you have a recipe?

QUOTE]

What kind of monster? :scared:

That part I put in purple was where the issue was...the [/ part was deleted.

Bethany- I think I need some practice, I got some of it right!

You did great! :thumbsup2

The first quote was messed up (where you quoted me) only because the DIS read the examples in my explanation as the end of a quote and beginning of the next and split the box up on it's own. That was not something you did. :goodvibes

Sheryl and I had a great time today with 2 others from the NOLA thread. I actually spent about 8 hours with Sheryl. We had a noon lunch and I got home at 7:15. :rotfl2: So....who's moving down here next? :rolleyes1

Okay...really brief check-in because it is late and we have another crazy day tomorrow.

Liam's team won again tonight, 11-3. They play again Saturday, I think. No, he did not pitch.

Since we only had 50 minutes (we left the house at 8:30, returned at 4, and left again at 4:50) we just had breakfast for dinner.

I'm sorry I can not respond to all, but Ellen, I would be hurt as well. I would understand if there were financial issues or exceptional academics, but from what you have said I would be :confused3. I hope you can find out more from your friend.

Hey y'all,
I thought I checked in this morning but I guess I didn't. I had a great time out today! Bethany was kind enough to chaffeur me around. We had a great lunch with even better company. We also got to meet our friend Ms Marigny's new baby boy!

Sheryl- I am glad that you enjoyed Alexis recital. I have to tell you I think that child is born for the stage! Did she enjoy camp?
She's been acting very strange about camp. Cries almost daily when Chris picks her up, usually saying someone was mean to her. Chris thinks she's mostly just overly tired, not used to such a busy day.

Good news!!! :cool1: Thanks to our very own Janice, we are not going to stay at the Dolphin but instead stay in a Boardwalk villa!!!!! :cool1:

Yeah!!! :cool1:

Thanks, but he'll need it tomorrow. We drove all the way to the game, and after one inning thunderstorms rolled in, so it was canceled. We have to go back tomorrow.

That stinks that you had to drive over there only to have a rain out. :headache:

Oh Laura, please don't feel badly. I've been so worried about this, but it's all so overwhelming!

Kathy, The one thing I don't think you have to worry about at all, is your boy starving. He probably won't eat the healthy food you fix, but don't worry he won't go hungry. I can tell you from experience that he will become even more appreciative of his Mom's good cooking!

Hey all! Sorry I cannot keep up lately. Mom was here and a handful...OK, but it's like having another child. Andrew's friend got really homesick and left camp. I have not heard from A but heard he is doing really well and having fun. I cannot wait to see him tomorrow. I will go see his game in the afternoon.

Thomas slept through the night immediately...I even put him in his crib awake now and within minutes is asleep, not even a peep. I am spoiled.

Lauren, Don't worry about keeping up! I'm happy for you that A comes home tomorrow! I'm also glad T is sleeping so well. What a good baby you have!

Sorry I haven't been around. I have really tried to get my mind in the right place. Thanks so much for the kind words and Lauri (LBKB) you have no idea how your kindness was appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Ellen, I'm very sorry that Matthew didn't get the scholarship. I think Nancy got it right, they were worried about showing favoritism. What i don't understand is your friend's attitude about it??? Prayers that your hurt heart will heal quickly. :flower3::hug:

Sorry if I missed anyone. It's late & I had a busy day. Tomorrow I'm heading out for lunch & the movies with Angelina. Gotta get some rest.
:grouphug:

Aw, what fun!! I need to see pics of some of these outings!!!

Liam's team won again tonight, 11-3. They play again Saturday, I think. No, he did not pitch.

I'm glad they won! :yay:

Alright, Disney Food Connoisseurs... your mission, if you choose to accept

Christmas Day dinner - avoiding the MK - for 1 credit on the DDP - where would you go?

Stopping by quick this morning

Laura- Hooray!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope that Liam pitches on Saturday!

Lauren- you can catch up when school starts. In the meantime enjoy your family

Bethany- I am so glad you have found our NOLA gals! What a wonderful gift you all have

Aimee- first, are you going to want to avoid all parks and stick with a resort meal? And what is your favorite park if you want to eat in the parks?

Janice-I want to see Julie and Julia too!

Sheryl- I am sad for Alexis. :sad1: Kady would not do well in an all day camp, no matter how much fun it was for her. I would encourage Chris to ask the counselors what they have observed. She is sensitive so what may slide off of another child may be very personal to her. I ma glad that Bethany is such a willing chauffeur :thumbsup2

I think I have a busy day today. I have the little boy down the street today and I want to take them blueberry picking. Welby and Nola are going to join us. Then they are going to make roly poly Cheerio balls. They were supposed to make them yesterday but Nola would not cooperate and nap so they entertained her instead.

Dinner to be announced later. Last night I had my leftover casserole and Buddy finished the chicken. Yes.....on sandwiches. He was not feeling great and then the neighbors stopped by so we never got to eat until 9 PM.

Morning ya'll! Sorry I didn't check in yesterday, but I got a call from one of my jobs at 7:30am yesterday in dire need of help. So, I helped them out from 8-12 and then worked at the pharmacy from 2-10. And of course I had to stay up and watch the finale of So you think you can dance after work. I was exhausted! Slowly waking up this morning.

Aimmee--So very exciting about BWV!!!

Sheryl--sorry to hear that Alexis is having a hard time at camp. Hope you can get some answers!

Bethany--sounds like you and Sheryl had a great day. Maybe I should road trip down to NOLA for a weekend! It's only 8 hrs from here!

Kathy--yes, your "little" boy will have no problems eating from what I remember from college. ;) But I'm sure he will be so excited to come home and get some good "mom" cooking on the weekends!

Not sure WFD tonight. Usually it's Friday pizza night, but dsis and niece are coming over tonight. Gotta start brainstorming!

feeding Emma and typing, so this will be short....

Ellen, I am glad you hit reply and joined us too. I loved getting to know you.
Your feelings about the scholarship are totally human.

Aimee, I love BWV...Janice you rock!

Lauren, I can't keep up lately either. Tips for a good sleeping baby are welcome. I failed that area with DS and don't want the same cycle.:headache:

Congrats to Liam:cheer2:

Kat, been thinking of you!

Sheryl, hope you are well!:flower3:

Hugs and apologies to everyone else I have missed. Thinking of you all.

Morning Y'all! I'm going out again today! Out to lunch & "Julie & Julia" with Angelina!

My neck is a little stiff from riding around all day, but nothing bad! Bethany is really a very good driver & she has a great sense of direction. :thumbsup2 She can already find her way around the city better than I can! Gosh what does that say about my sense of direction? Living here all my life & newbie gets around better than I do! :upsidedow:laughing:

Laura, I'm glad the team won! I hope Liam gets to pitch in the next game1

Aw, what fun!! I need to see pics of some of these outings!!!

Christmas Day dinner - avoiding the MK - for 1 credit on the DDP - where would you go?

None of us took pics yesterday. Only 4 of us were able to get together, but it was still fun!

Aimee, The Captains Grill in the Yacht Club has very good food. I think I would go with something like that. The "regular" rest. in the hotels.

Bethany- I am so glad you have found our NOLA gals! What a wonderful gift you all have

Nancy we are lucky to have found Bethany!:goodvibes

I'm sad for Alexis too! Especially because my surgery is the reason she's in day camp. :sad1: Thank goodness today is her last day in camp!! I will get her all to myself all of next week. :yay: Then she starts school on the 19th. Either I need to brave driving that 1st day or Chris or Angelina will have to take her to school that day. ( poor kid couldn't carry the huge bag of school supplies herself! ) I'm hoping we can find out on the 1st day of school if she has any friends on the bus (as Laura suggested).

Sheryl--sorry to hear that Alexis is having a hard time at camp. Hope you can get some answers!

Not sure WFD tonight. Usually it's Friday pizza night, but dsis and niece are coming over tonight. Gotta start brainstorming!

Thanks! It's the last day of camp today, so we'll be done with that problem. Next summer we'll research more & find something that she is more comfortable with. Like a music/dance/drama camp or whatever her big interest is next year. Hopefully I will not need anymore surgeries & if she doesn't want to go to camp, she won't have to.

Yes you should come visit us for a weekend!! :goodvibes That would be so fun!

Sheryl- I don't think that a camp experience is a bad thing, and while your surgery was the impetus for this first time at camp you are not to blame for her having an adjustment. It is always hard to watch your little Lovies trying to figure out how to manage kids who do not have the manners that your own do. Alexis is fortunate that you are so involved in her care, you always make up for the mean girls that are out there. I am so sad to say that there are a lot of them. Kady has been instructed that she is not to play wioth a few of those girls, I don't get it. Their parents are oblivious to their behavior. Kady is uncomfortable around them and Marisa is trying to teach her how to avoid them wnd yet to be able to be friendly woth the kids they are not nice to. It was a balancign act I needed to stay out of. Pa and I wanted to go and toss them off a bridge, Marisa said we could not

Anyway, you are going to give her a fabulous week next week. Maybe she will be able to articulate what behaviors were upsetting her adn you can help her to grow from it. Unless your reaction is like ours, to smack the little brats! Then better let Bob take her back to Disney!

Thanks my friend! You are correct, this is something she needs to learn how to handle. She is extremely sensitive, in fact she is overly sensitive! She will go on & on over getting the slightest scratch or if someone hurts her feelings. She is so over the top about it, I haven't been able to figure out how to deal with it. She cries over every boo-boo. If I correct her, even in the my best possible "teaching voice" she still cries over being "fussed at". So yes having to deal with some of this is probably a good thing for her.

But when it comes to other kids hitting or being mean, Nana is not the one to deal with it. :sad2: My first reaction is to tell her to smack them, if they're big... pick up something & smack them with it!! ;)

Good luck with your busy, but fun day! I sure would love to be your neighbor!:goodvibes

Aimee- first, are you going to want to avoid all parks and stick with a resort meal? And what is your favorite park if you want to eat in the parks?

We're still not sure... see, mom's schedule is still up in the air because they will do another shift bid in NOVEMBER so we have to just guess what she will be doing. I think we'll have park tickets that we can use if we want to if she's working (which she 99.9% will be) but we also talked about doing out of park stuff that day to avoid crowds in the parks - putt putt, movie, sea raycer, shopping, etc. I just don't know HOW bad parks like Epcot and MGM get those days to know if it's worth bothering with.

So, I was aiming more for resort restaurants since mom may be coming straight from working and getting back into a park to meet us will take some time. We know that an 8pm reservation will allow her to come even if she has to work all day.

My favorite park by FAR is Epcot. I :lovestruc Epcot.

That's a long day!! I hope you can get a nap at some point

DH left this morning for a golf weekend with his family. I have a baby shower tonight at 7pm, which I'm assuming will NOT be a meal :confused3 so I'll grab something on the way to get the gift

I have a Sour Cream Coffee cake in the oven. Hope it comes out yummy!
It is the recipe I posted the other day.

Chicken Broccoli Divan Casserole
350 degrees for 1 hour in 13x9 casserole

1 1/2lbs. boneless chicken breast or tenders
1 bag frozen broccoli (defrosted) (I like broccoli/califlower mix also)
2 cans cream of chicken soup
1 cup mayo
2 tbsp lemon juice
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
(Dash Cayenne- I added this to my recipe)

Grease casserole with Pam. Layer uncooked chicken in pan. Next layer is broccoli. Combine soup, mayo and lemon juice then pour over chicken and broccoli. Top with shredded cheddar and bake for 1 hour at 350.

You can also sprinkle some bread crumbs, or crushed potato chips if desired. I just use cheese.

Christmas Day dinner - avoiding the MK - for 1 credit on the DDP - where would you go?

Hmmm, that's a tough one. Last year we went to Jiko for Christmas dinner, but that's 2 credits. Is there someplace you haven't been before?

Some of my favorite restaurants at the resorts are Sanaa (don't know how many that is though), Boma, O'Hana and Whispering Canyon. The rest are either 2 or at a park.

Not sure what's for dinner tonight, my youngest DN is coming for the weekend. Have lots planned to do with her, the County Fair, going to see the movie Aliens in the Attic and picking at the Pick-Your-Own farm.

Awwww, thanks! :goodvibes

Bethany- I am so glad you have found our NOLA gals! What a wonderful gift you all have

I'm glad too! :goodvibes

Bethany--sounds like you and Sheryl had a great day. Maybe I should road trip down to NOLA for a weekend! It's only 8 hrs from here!

I got tired just reading about your day yesterday! I used to do a similar schedule...in college. One job 8-12, school 1-4, other job 5-10. :headache: NOT fun; I feel your pain!

Yes, you SHOULD come down sometime! Maybe in a few months when it's not quite so hot....I've been told that sometime around December it cools off a bit. :rotfl:

So, I was aiming more for resort restaurants since mom may be coming straight from working and getting back into a park to meet us will take some time. We know that an 8pm reservation will allow her to come even if she has to work all day.

My favorite park by FAR is Epcot. I :lovestruc Epcot.

That is a tough one. If you have an in-park ADR, you'll need to be in that park before the park reaches capacity and stops admitting people. If your Mom was to meet you, that'd be an issue. If you have a resort ADR, and you leave to eat, you will not likely get back in to watch fireworks. (Although if you are planning for an 8pm meal, that won't be an issue anyways.)

I agree with Sheryl - try the Captain's Grille at the Yacht Club, or another resort restaurant like Kona Cafe. A TS at a moderate might be a good option too.

But when it comes to other kids hitting or being mean, Nana is not the one to deal with it. :sad2: My first reaction is to tell her to smack them, if they're big... pick up something & smack them with it!! ;)

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaeh, hitting is a big one for me. I am not sure what I would do, her Pa would want to have a Camp David Summit and then punch the kid's parents. Marisa  would not good.

Girls are pretty filled with drama on a good day but when they are picked on, :dance3:. I still think I would try to find out what she was having a hard time with, and then see if you can help her to find a way to either shrug it off or at least protect herself from getting her feelings hurt. Poor kid :grouphug: I just want to hug her :grouphug:

So, I was aiming more for resort restaurants since mom may be coming straight from working and getting back into a park to meet us will take some time. We know that an 8pm reservation will allow her to come even if she has to work all day.

Okay, if you are avoiding the parks I would try to get an ADR at the Grand Floridian Cafe. WE were going to have dinner there when we were planning to go with the DXDDP. The menu looks very good and I think the reviews were as positive as reviews can be when reviewing a restaurant. Maybe you can get one late enough adn then se Wishes from the beach. there were openings here when other places were booked solid. It is not the first place that folks think about when making ADR's so you may have more flexibility when making your ADR.
If you are going to EPCOT I would try to get Rose and Crown. I liked it there a lot and if you are out on the patio the view is pretty. The food was good, simply prepared but very good. I do not know first hand but I have heard that if you are on the patio the view for Illuminations is gorgeous. Do CM's get a preference for seating from other CM's?

Well, we are home with a little less wisdom (all 4 teeth to be exact).

Matthew is one sore puppy right now. The numbness was wearing off before we got home and to the Pharmacy for the pain pills. But he now has one safely in his tummy and ice on both sides of his face. He should feel better here in a few minutes. Oh how I hate to see him in so much pain.

WFDT ~ I have no idea!! Probably leftovers, as I know Matthew will be hungry and really can't eat anything. So Doug and I will eat something that won't smell the house up. :)

Bethany & Sheryl ~ I am so glad you had such a good time yesterday.

Laura ~ Yea to Liam

Aimee ~ How about the Wave over at the Contmporary. I love this new place. And it would be close to the MK to be able to see the fireworks if you wanted to.

Sheryl ~ prayers for Alexis. That is EXACTLY how I felt on Sunday/Monday. Very hurt wounded and sensitive.

Janice ~ Oh how I want to go see Julie & Julia. Let us know how it was.

Nancy ~ I am so sorry for your loss of the crops. We got hail a few nights ago and we personally weren't hit but the fields about 5 miles of us were stripped to the stalks. No more corn or soybeans. It was so sad. I am so sorry for Buddy.

Kathy ~ I have a running list I am keeping so I can get Matthew's kitchen stocked. I tell him to add to the list as he thinks of things. The only thing he has added so far are - RAMEN NOODLES. :rotfl2::scared1::eek::rotfl2:

Ann ~ Hug those babies for me. I love the smell of babies.

Have a great weekend everyone. It is suppose to be 100+ here this weekend so I plan on staying in where it is cool. I hope to get another day or 2 up real soon of my trip report.
