The What's For Dinner Thread - August '09(recipe index in OP)

Good morning all, hope everyone had a good weekend. I spent most of yesterday by the fire, it was a perfect way to spend a cold, rainy Sunday.

Laura- Have fun at the cheese shop, sorry you have to go so far to get her skates sharpened, it seems like you have to do it pretty often.

Bethany- Have a good day at work, I'm glad your enjoying the school year- you've earned it. Thanks for posting Sheryl's update.

Stephanie- I hope your able to find time to get a nap in.

Off to do some laundry and figure out what's for dinner, probably chicken of some sort.

have a great day all

Morning Ladies! It was a beautiful weekend here! We had the windows opened the entire time, it was so nice outside.

Our Friday night dinner was a lot of fun. We have to go to restaurants where we can cut up, because we are a crazy bunch!!

Last night's dinner was breaded chicken and baked macaroni. Tonight will be either burgers or meatloaf.

Let me try to catch up now!

Ann - We saw the episode with Tyler doing the dumplings and I printed out the recipe. We haven't done them yet but they looked delicious! Was DH & DSS glad they stayed home? We had the game on and were commenting on the weather. And Kathy wasn't the only one enjoying the saints game!!

I am so disappointed I do not have facebook for updates

You can join and friend people without posting pictures of your own and without posting too much personal information.

I'm on facebook but only have Kathy and Sheryl as friends. So if either of them post there I'll see what's going on.

I might get more tired soon though. I signed up to do after school tutoring (yes again...you thought I learned my lesson last year :rotfl:) but this is only about an hour each, two days a week. Last year it was 2 hours/day for 3 days. I'm doing 3rd grade and there should be less than 10 kids in the group; it's test prep for the state test (that I'm not the least bit familiar with....this should be fun! :rotfl2:) I think I'm just doing Math and Reading and not Social Studies or Science. I hope so ... 3rd grade SS is all about Louisiana...I am SO not the expert on that! :lmao:

Good luck with the tutoring. We'll keep educating you over on the NOLA board, you'll be an expert in no time!! Sorry to hear about your friend. That is a painful disease to have to deal with. Scary about your parents; glad they are okay.

Janice - glad your cousin made it thru the delivery safely and that we have a healthy baby girl!

Nancy - glad to hear that the tests for Buddy went well. Hoping and praying for good news soon. I like sweet wines, but that blackberry sounds too sweet even for me!! Sounds like you had a wined out weekend! A happy belated birthday to Kady!! Its so sad to see parents use children like that.

Kathy - So sorry for the tooth problems. Not a great way to start a vacation.

Stephanie - Welcome home! Take a good nap. Sorry you have to cook for a party tonight. That's not fair.
Sounds like everyone is having a great time!

Aimee - sorry you aren't feeling well. Listen to Nancy's lecture - she's right. You do way too much and let your body run down. REST!!!

Laura - hopefully visiting the cheese shop will make the trip worth it.

Kathy ~ I so hope you are feeling better. You have so looked forward to this little vacation that I hope you get to enjoy some of it. my friend.

Nancy ~ Prayers are being said for Buddy. He is so on my mind lately. All will be just fine. How is Marisa feeling?

Aimee ~ I don't know how you do it. Between not feeling good and working 100 hours a day. Take it easy and please get some rest or your body is going to shut you down and MAKE you rest. We don't wamt that so please listen to us.

Sheryl ~ I am so glad you are having so much fun. Please tell all hi for me. I am a hugger so hugs can be given if you want. :rotfl2:

Stephanie ~ safe travels home my friend. And hopefully a nap is on your agenda sometime today. Have fun tonight.

Bethany ~ thanks for the link to Sheryl. Have a great day today.

Laura, Ann & Robin :flower3: Hi!!

I was at church Saturday morning at 7:30 to get a funeral lunch ready. We fixed enough food to feed 250 people. We actually fed 175. Busy, busy morning and didn't stop once until I got home at 2:30. I was pooped!!!

We had plenty of food left over so I was able to bring some home and that is what Doug and I had for our dinner.

Roast beef poorboys and many different kinds of salads. It was all so good.

Love the ones your with as the world is shy one very good man. He will be so missed. RIP my dear friend, Paul Matson.

Matthew is still home for fall break, I haven't seen him except for dinner Friday night. I hope he will be home sometime today but he is with his sister so we shall see.

I am going to test drive a new car after work so depending on that we might just grab something out. I will let you know later.

Make it a great day my friends and I will BBL.

Quick drop in...

I gave Emma her first rice cereal today! :goodvibes She did really well with it.
Then took an 1.5 hour nap on her full belly.

Lauri Z, DH & DSS were thrilled to be home warm and fed watching the game. Snow in October is just plain crazy. Try those dumplings so darn good!

BBL

WFD- Oven baked boneless chicken breast, rice pilaf, and corn.

Steph, hope your sleeping......
Was Charlene sick that she didn't make it to CG? Now I'm worried:confused3

Nan, any doctor update? Did he review the reports? Prayers being said.....
How was your turkey last night? We enjoyed it. Leftovers tonight!

Robin, TJs alert. Have you tried the dark chocolate crisps? They are shaped like potato chips & are addicting.....

Bethany, thank you for the link.

Off to check out Sheryl's link...

Good (very early) morning ladies! I'm already at the airport waiting for the counter to open so I can check-in. My crazy dh (with the best intentions) booked me on the very first flight out this morning. And since I was at the mercy of ME, here I sit; 2 and 1/2 hours to go with absolutely nothing open. At least I'll be first in line to go thru security. Kind of like a fast pass;)

Was great getting to meet all the ladies, minus Charlene and add gretchen's mom, along with bob and Johnny. Great group of women and great food. There are pics on someone elses camera, which will be posted soon.

I feel like I wasn't the best dining companion. Yesterday was crazy and I was frazzeled. I went to check in at ssr only to be told my reservation had been cancelled. What?!? And they weren't sure a room was available. Turns out my waitlist for bc came thru AFTER I did the online checkin from home. So we schlep back to bc (where we had just checked out). When I was checking in the cm said "oh yes we have a 2 bedroom ready for you" I was like, no way am I using that many points for one night. Then I was told that I had been upgraded complimentary, meaning someone screwed up and they had no room for me. It was nice to have all that space, but I wish it wasfor more than 12 hours!

Hope everyone has a great day! I'm going straight to bed when I get home. And we're hosting Monday Night Football tonight (crazy, I know) so I have to shop and cook this afternoon. At least I'm making chili-easy and quick.

What a mess! I'm glad you had a good weekend, even with the crazy room mixup. Score on the 2 bedroom! You could have hosted party! :dance3:

Tonight is a meeting so I'm stuck here until 9pm+. I did end up going to the camp last night and while the weather was nice, I really was craving HOME by the time it was over. I consider myself to be outgoing but I truly do reenergize myself by being at home relaxing. I know some people reenergize by being with people.

Swine is in full force here, and I have a dad in the hospital with complications already. I've decided I need to steer clear of hospitals for awhile but I feel a bit guilty about not visiting people.

We had Pei Wei for lunch so I have leftovers for dinner since I'll still be here.

Hi, everyone! I'm back from visiting Dad. We had a great time, for the most part. Dad cooked a mini Thanksgiving dinner for us on Wedsnesday night. It was a fun time. We relaxed the next day, and in the evening went to see "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare, Abridged". What a hilarious show! We took the older 4 of our kids, and they were all rolling on the floor! Thursday night we had Cafe Rio pork and cilantro lime rice that my sister cooked! So yummy! I'm going to have to get the recipes from her!

Friday morning, we took our kids about 20 miles away to a Gap where there are ancient Indian rock paintings. It was really interesting and the kids loved it! After that, Alan took them hiking and they found some pottery shards, and Katie found an arrowhead. Very exciting! I made sloppy joes for dinner and then we went to see "Tuesdays with Maury." I wasn't sure I wanted to see it, given mom's recent passing, but I'm really glad that I did. Katie went with me, and she said, "It was a happy sad play." It totally was! When we got home, we found out that Timothy and my niece, Olivia, had been throwing up all evening long. Thankfully, Alan was with them, and was able to help. During the night, my sister and her husband came down with whatever bug it was, as well as Katie, Jacob, my nephew Ian, and my niece Marina.

By morning, they all felt better, but really weak. They stayed in bed, and rested the whole day. Dad and I went to a funeral for a great aunt of his who was 101 years old. It really was a celebration! After that, dad and I went shopping, and found some darling Fall clothes for Katie and my niece Marina. We did some real boosting of our local economy! Dinner Saturday night was chicken soup. By night, most of the sickies were feeling better, so my niece went with me to see "The Woman in Black". It was so SCARY!!! I was glad that she went with me, as I was jumping and screaming!

When we got home, my nephew Jamison and Alan were both down with the bug. Ugh! However, it was quick moving and by Sunday morning both were feeling well enough to go to church. We had a pleasant day at church with Dad, and came home to enjoy some chicken risotto, before packing the car and coming home.

Today seems to be Mary's turn with the bug. She's home from school with a tummy bug, and I think I'm coming down with it, as well.

Not sure what's for dinner, as I can't stomach cooking. I'll let Alan do it when he gets home.

Haven't read back...I need prayers my friends...Tooth pain was horrible when we arrived yesterday, ended up getting a root canal on my first day of vacation, felt much better afterward and was able to have a decent evening and dinner with Sheryl, Bob, Lauren & Charlene. BUT pain started again during the night and I have an other dentist appointment in two hours.:sad1:

Had a busy weekend. My DN was in a swim meet Saturday and yesterday and Saturday night we went to the Olive Garden for a birthday dinner for her little sister.

My DN did really well, coming in 1st place for her age in a couple of the events. Final results will not be out for a couple of weeks but my sister said that she did "break" a couple of her summer league records although they do not count. She should be able to officially break them next summer, though.

My youngest DN was so cute Saturday night. My BFF and I had gone to Target and picked up presents on the way to the swim meet since we didn't know how long we would be there. While we were at dinner she kept asking what was in the pink bags and we told her they were our new purses. Once the cake came she told us to give them to her, she knew they were for her. She was so excited because we got her lots of arts and crafty type stuff.

Dinner tonight is crab legs. My DM had taken them out last night but I came home from the swim meet and shopping and passed out on the couch. Had cottage cheese for dinner at 11:00 last night.

Glynis- glad you had a good time other then the sickness.

Nancy- about children and custody issues, some parents cannot see past the "it's my time with my child" and see the child. I have worked in childcare for over 20 years and have seen some really nasty stuff.

Slight change in sides for dinner-

WFD- baked chicken, baked sweet potatoes, and iceburg wedge with homemade thousand island dressing.

I have read back but my brain is a little fuzzy right now. I spoke to teh Dr today, she read the results of the MRI. She does not think that the mass...it is a mass...is metastatic cancer Thank God! She did say that he has two neuromas, one at the base of his spine and one near his ear. She has never seen them placed like this though so she called a neurologist so that she could have some ideas. SHe sais that his hearing should have been affected and sure enough, this morning he lost a lot of the hearing in one ear. SHe wants him to see the neurologist but keep the appointment with teh neurosurgeon. SHE was surprised that he was able to get on so fast, this group books 6 months out. She did tell the Dr that he needs to get in ASAP so she felt that he would not have so long a wait. I have called Gail, this Dr is also a friend of Mikes. He is at eh hospital tonight and if one of the group comes in he is going to talk to them and see if it would help to call and make the appointment like he did with the surgeon he will do that for us.

Thank you for all of the prayers, I have been terrified that this was cancer and right now it is not looking that way. I know that the prayers helped and am truely moved beyond words. I am so thankful that you all did this for us.

Dinner is hot turkey sandwiches, mashed potatoes and a big salad. I am back to watching my meals so I am filling up on my "greens" as Bud would say.

Aimee- NO HOSPITALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nancy I am very happy that you both recieved such good news. I do hope the doctor can get Buddy in ASAP if only to put you at ease. I am such a worrier.

Aimee I forgot to add. Take care of yourself first. If you get sick that would be very bad. Very Stern voice here. DON't make me drive over to pick up Nancy so we can yell in person !

AMEN!!!!!!!! Prayers continued xo

Oh Nancy I'm glad they don't think it's cancer but I will continue praying for both of you

You're welcome for posting the link. I hope Sheryl doesn't mind.

It was a beautiful weekend here! We had the windows opened the entire time, it was so nice outside.

We'll keep educating you over on the NOLA board, you'll be an expert in no time!!

The weather WAS beautiful! I was more than a little bit chilly though, especially on Saturday!

You know I still need to be educated! :lmao: I finally figured out what "red gravy" is the other day!

And thanks to everybody for the well wishes for my friend. She's a really strong person and she'll be okay, but I feel bad for her.

And yes, God was watching out for my parents (and my brother and SIL who were with them) when they were driving through that area. They had stopped for lunch at the spot where the mountain came down.

Tonight is a meeting so I'm stuck here until 9pm+. I did end up going to the camp last night and while the weather was nice, I really was craving HOME by the time it was over. I don't know how you keep up with the schedule you have. I would stay away from the hospital for awhile, just to protect yourself. You have so many responsibilities you really can't get swine flu if you can at all avoid it.

We did some real boosting of our local economy!

:rotfl: It sounds like it! I hope everyone stops passing that bug around.

My DN did really well, coming in 1st place for her age in a couple of the events. Final results will not be out for a couple of weeks but my sister said that she did "break" a couple of her summer league records although they do not count. Congratulations to your DN!

Hi, everyone! I'm back from visiting Dad.

Your family sounds like so much fun!! I'm glad you had a great trip, and that the stomach thing runs it's course quickly. Hope it does that for you, too.

I have read back but my brain is a little fuzzy right now. I spoke to teh Dr today, she read the results of the MRI.

Good news!!!

Aimee I forgot to add. Take care of yourself first. If you get sick that would be very bad. Very Stern voice here. DON't make me drive over to pick up Nancy so we can yell in person !

The meeting was record breaking - only 45 minutes! I was thrilled to be home an hour earlier than I thought. :woohoo:

Hey y'all,

Bethany, I don't mind & appreciate your help! I thought it went to both threads but obviously it didn't. I did bring the new netbook, but the keyboard & op system is really quirky.

Nancy, I'm so sorry I haven't been a good friend, not calling you. I am happy that it's not looking like cancer but I know you must still be so worried. We have & will continue to pray that Buddy is totally healthy! :hug!

I feel bad even talking about what a good time we had tonight. But I do know y'all want to hear about it. Us, Johnny & Kathy, Gretchen & her Mom Karen met for drinks & then dinner at Citrico's. Again I have never laughed so much at dinner ever! We all need to get together like this. Just an unbelievable amount of laughter & FUN.

Lauren & Charlene, I hope you two made it home safely & not too tired! We had so much fun together, I want to get together all the time! When y'all coming down to Nola? Who's that?! and How is your Mother & the rest of your family?! :lmao:

Lauren, Angelina sent your makeup today. UPS 2nd day, I think that's what she told me. She found it in my mary kay storage closet wrapped up in the bag. :confused3 I don't know how it ended up there. Hope you arrives asap.
