The Wazowski Report ! HalloweenTime TR Day 1 DONE & Day 2 Started !! Added 12/26!

What I don't understand is the absolute passion that these subjects provoke. I have seen people get irate and hurtful when discussing it. I just want to scream "hey people this is not life altering!" I now step down from my soap box. By the way I agree.

As a matter of fact, Michele and I were discussing this very thing, more or less, over on my TR thread a couple of weeks ago or so, when the dreaded subject of the Haunted Manson Holiday provoked some folks to take it so personally. Heaven forbid some of us actually LIKE the HMH - it is somehow viewed as a personal insult.:sad2: The HMH thread started to get heated so I escaped and came over to my TR for peace! Disney is going to do what they want to do, whether we like it or not. They have made some GREAT additions and changes, and they have made some mistakes or missteps along the way. But what is done is done and that's that.

Clearly, I am old enough where that I became familiar with the original Small World decades ago. I mean, those pictures you saw of me at DL when I was 4 in 1972 - I went on Small World on that same trip. And I came out of it singing in (what I thought was) French, but was really just 4-year-old faux French!;) I grew up riding it on every trip up until probably the early '90s. For all intents and purposes, I should be a 100% purist. But I am not. I was tired of the ride. I was bored with it. Frankly it had dropped off the 'must-do' list at Disneyland for many trips....UNTIL the Holiday version opened up. That gave us a new reason to go on it. And now that there are little Disney characters (in the form of dolls) to look for, I want to go on it again. The additions have breathed new life into a ride that was only interesting at Christmas! My only hope is that they don't skip the holiday overlay this year because they want to showcase the new additions throughout 2009. I am afraid they may do that.

I know there are some folks who are probably resistant to the IASW holiday overlay too - though how could you be? It is so pretty that it seems it would win over even the most diehard purist. But some folks really seem to take it personally that a few character/dolls have been added to the ride and I don't understand that, just as they take it so personally that the Haunted Mansion gets its yearly overlay (let's cross our fingers for a 2009 HMH overlay). It is just something different to do to an old favorite to perk it up a bit and make it interesting. It is not, as Michele said, a life-altering event! To me, the 'message' of the IASW ride that people keep talking about is the same. I think the integrity of the ride will stay intact. I think Disney did the right thing because the ride was boring and dated, and they NEEDED to infuse new life into it to attract people of all ages back on it during the other non-holiday months of the year.

Bottom line is, Disney needs to keep a lot of things the same AND they need to change a lot of things, and they need to do both seamlessly and without a major disruption. It is hard to accomplish all of that without ruffling feathers of both camps. I, too, have questioned some of the changes that are coming for DCA and wonder why they didn't do other things instead, but it is not personally offensive to me and I am keeping an open mind about the ones I am iffy about, while I am very excited for some of the other changes and additions. They are not making the changes to please or displease ME, so I just have to roll with it and adapt and when everything in DCA is up and running, I am SURE I will like it! It is not going to affect my life in any way!

I believe the changes are good....if nothing changed over the last 50+ yrs would Disneyland still bring in the masses? Probably not..... I too, looked at POTC with the new additions & wondered why would you change a classic, but then after riding it, I went wow, that was like riding it for the first time!! I may miss the original, but found excitement in seeing it updated. I'm very excited to see the updated IASW in March. In fact hubby & I have been talking about it since last March when it was closed for the rehab.
Disney has to keep adding & upgrading, otherwise people would get bored. Walt said it would never be done & I'm glad to see the people running it have continued his legacy.
We may not like everything they do, but at least it gives us something new & fresh to see.

I'm glad you all agree with me. It seems kind of pointless and selfish, but what can you do right ? To each their own. I've seen pictures and video from the IASW in China so I could get a small idea of what everyone is so heated about, but it seems like all the additions are minor. Oh well!

Thanks everyone for the input on this subject because I absolutely agree with all of you! I'm hoping to get all those pictures put up from other trips that I have taken at DLR, but I am a little bit busy. I want to do it before next Wednesday because that is the beginning of lent! I'll definitely try to do it!!

Hello!

I got the pictures and here are the beginnings of them ;)

This trip was a birthday trip for my mom in April. The first weekend to be exact ! I don't have many to post because I hated the way I looked then; I think especially because this was PRE-braces. Kaycee & her dad stopped by for the last day (this is before we were close).

My dad had gout during the trip so we wheeled him around and cut lines ;)

more to come soon!

I love all those pictures! I don't know why you don't like them or don't like the way you look. You look adorable! Then again, we are always the harshest critics of ourselves, aren't we? Anyway, I love all the on-ride pictures - in fact, someone just started a new on-ride picture thread yesterday and you should post some of these there.

I see you guys were at Storytellers, but I don't see characters, so you must have eaten there for lunch or dinner. I was saying in some thread last night that I actually find the lunch prices to be LESS outrageous than the dinner or even breakfast prices. I mean, I think $17 is too much to charge for one plate of breakfast at Storytellers (off the menu), but I don't mind paying twice that much to eat at Goofy's where I can get as much of what I want as I like. And the dinner prices at Storytellers are high, too, for the amount of food you get on a plate. But for some reason, the lunch prices seemed appropriate - not too high for the amount of food you get.

One of my friends' husbands has gout. I never understood what causes it to begin with and then what triggers an attack when it flares up. I know my friend's husband has to watch his protein intake and can't eat a lot of red meat...and yet he has pain in his feet. I don't understand how the red meat ties in with the feet! Since your dad has gout, maybe you know the answers. Does a flare-up last for days and weeks, or could it just be for one day?

Thanks Sherry! I totally don't like seeing these pictures, but OH WELL, I did have a lot of fun when we were there. I just wish I didn't look like such a dork!

When we were at Storytellers it was brunchish, so all the characters were gone by the time we were eating there. It was pretty cool though, because that trip we stayed at GCH. SOOO amazing!

Gout is a very finicky ailment. What it pretty goes on with gout is crystalization of uric acid around the joints. It feels like arthritis x 10. Your joints also swells up and are very tender. There have been times that my dad can feel pain from my mom moving in bed. There are a lot of ways you can get gout from food and its not only red meat. There are a lot of things on the list of things that can cause gout. Just to name some: beer, red meat, shellfish, pork (big time), mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, legumes, energy drinks, and broccoli. Its really weird. Anything that has Niacin in it will also affect gout. My dad has been having gout very severely for the past 6 months and most of it has to do with his eating habits. My dad OD's on food he's not supposed to have when it is around him. He has no will power for food haha. So now, we're getting him to be serious about it because people have died from gout.

You're so cute with your pigtails!

Thanks Meredith. I really think I looked like a dork for sure!

The Big Summer '06 Surprise Engagement Trip!

Hey guys,

So as some of you know, this was the trip that Eric proposed to me and I got food poisoning at Tortilla Joe's (never go there btw!). I'm going to briefly summarize what happened for those who don't know.

Eric planned to propose to me on this trip and asked my parents permission about a year prior to the trip. He also asked Kaycee advice and spoke to my parents about the whole thing. Pretty much my HUGE family knew about this trip without even telling me. Eric researched on ways to propose at DL and he chose to get characatures done and propose that way. He ended up proposing to me on the first day we were there. We were there for 3 days and I got sick at lunch on the 2nd day (that means half of the vacation was ruined). I was projectile vomiting for about 4 hours and my electrolytes were so low by the time I was done, I could barely stand up and I kept getting even more nauseous every time I stood up to throw up. It was TERRIBLE. On the last day, I couldn't walk because I kept getting dizzy. I couldn't really hold down any food so I didn't really eat either. Since I was so weak, Eric got me a wheelchair and attempted to take me in the park. We ended up only going on HM, then going back to GCH (where we stayed) and resting in the lobby. The experience though was nice because of how much work Eric put into the trip. Poor guy!

Oh my goodness! I LOVE those pictures from the engagement trip! I can't believe you didn't share those with us before now!!!

First of all - Eric is so thoughtful and creative to have come up with such a clever way to propose - through the caricature!:cool1: That has to be one of the best ways I have heard of someone being proposed to at DLR! Not only is it amazing that he managed to keep your entire family quiet about it (and thank God you said YES to the proposal or the rest of the trip would have been awkward, to say the least!!), but how did he keep you from seeing that the caricature artist was drawing out "Will You Marry Me?" Where did he have that done - in Downtown Disney? I think I have seen the caricature people around DLH but I can't recall if I have seen them anywhere else. I want to get one done - even though mine won't be as cool or as memorable as yours was.

After hours of barfing, you actually don't look as bad as some people would look the next day. I was expecting you to look like death warmed over and you look a little tired, maybe, but not horrible. A girl's gotta keep looking cute, even after projectile vomiting for hours the day before! Especially if she has just been proposed to!

I think I am getting your trips mixed up - I thought you guys stayed at the DLH for the proposal, but no, it was the GCH. So when were you and Eric at the DLH? Was that 2 years ago?

Oh, and by the way - from what you described about gout, I hope I never get that. Your poor dad. I already have enough pain to contend with regularly in my back and legs/hips in relation to this disc problem. Sometimes it can be impossible to move or walk. I don't want gout inflaming my joints too!! It makes you realize how fragile and delicate our health is, where our mobility can be compromised just by eating some burgers!! I don't eat a lot of red meat or pork, but now I am going to be extra paranoid when I do eat it! My friend's husband's gout was just starting to act up a little bit on one of our Catalina Island trips - and, like Disneyland, Catalina involves a lot of walking. He didn't get a beef hamburger, but he ordered a buffalo burger (a specialty on Catalina), and my friend was nervous that the buffalo meat would get him in trouble with his gout!

The caricature was done in NOS and it was pretty funny because when we first got there, she was painting a sign that said "wedding proposal in progress. SHHH." and I read it and thought "oh thats so sweet." It totally just passed my mind that it was happening to me ! When the girl was drawing us out and everything Eric wasn't smiling and he was very silent. I kept saying "smile! I don't want her drawing a grumpy face!" People kept passing by, smiling, and saying 'awww.' I was a little confused and just smiled back or said thanks because I thought they were looking at how cute she was drawing us. Then after she was done, she turned it around and it read "will you marry me?" and I was confused. The first thing I thought was "crap, I can't bring this home. My dad's gonna be so pissed. Why did she write that?" Then I turn around and Eric is on his knee. A big group showed up and all I could say is "oh my god" so this man standing by came up to me and said "you're going to say yes, right?" and I said "of course!" So thats why it says it on the drawing. The man & his wife wanted to take a picture of us for some reason, so we let them.

Our trip to DLH was two years ago. After the trip with my parents in '04, it kick started us going at least once a year. When we stayed at DLH it was for 5 days. It was fantastic.

OH & gout usually happens in males. It is very uncommon for females to get gout, but it is possible. Also, most of the time it is hereditary, so if it doesn't run in your family you should be safe ;) I have an aunt that is not blood related to my dad and she gets gout though, so I always say its just better to eat healthy!

Jassy! Your pictures are adorable! I love them!!! :goodvibes

Oh! You had braces? I have braces NOW!! I got them last month! :lmao: This trip will be my first trip with braces!! So NO caramel apples! NOOO! :scared1: :sad2:

Oh and speaking of gout. My Mom gets it. When she eats certain things. It looks painful. :scared:

The proposal was AWESOME!!! It gave me goosebumps when I read it & saw the pics! Thank you so much for sharing it with all of us!!
(and a belated Congrats!!) :cool1:

Thanks Courtney! You just got braces ? Aww, well that sucks! I actually got my braces when I started college and had them taken off right before I turned 21. I was sooo happy I didn't have them on for my first legal drink. I as a good girl and stayed away from most of the things you're not supposed to eat, but I didn't really like eating 'em anyway. Don't worry, they'll be off in no time! I personally didn't like any pictures from that period of my life, so I don't really show 'em off haha!

Oh you're mom gets gout? That sucks! I'm glad most of the women in my family don't get gout. I'm also pretty good about the foods I eat!

Thank you :) He did such an amazing job. I was so floored. He is so damn awesome! I'm so glad you enjoyed reading about it!

Yeah. I'm going to have them for 18 months. So they'll be off before my 23rd birthday. I honestly don't mind them. I still smile big and cheesy and I keep being told they go with my personality. Which I don't mind because I've always been a big dork! Woo! :hippie:

I've been good as to not be eating what I can't with these things. It hasn't been a big problem for me though. If anything that bug me about them is sometimes they cut up the inside of my lips! :headache:

I can totally relate..... I had them in high school & still have scars inside my mouth from the wires scratching!!

:scared1:

The first week I had them I was walking around with gauze in my inside bottom lip because I was so annoyed. :headache: But I feel much better now. :upsidedow

They do take some time to get used to...if ever. I did fine until I took a basketball to the mouth & from then on, it seemed I had nothing but problems with them.
How long have you had them? and How long do you have to have them?
I had to wear mine 2 yrs & they promised me I'd get them off for graduation.... they came off one week after graduation! :headache:

I was just thinking about if I had these in high school I would have probably had to have worn a mouth piece playing basketball because I wouldn't want an elbow/basketball to my braced mouth!

I got them on January 22nd last month and they will be coming off sometime in 2010. And at first I said before my 23rd birthday, but most likely after that since my birthday (May 1st) would be the 17 months. June would be 18. Soo! Fingers crossed BY my 23rd birthday!!!

Boo! I would have been mad if they came off after my graduation!
