The Wazowski Report ! HalloweenTime TR Day 1 DONE & Day 2 Started !! Added 12/26!

You know it's too funny I bought myself that book on Friday I have been dying to read it. I like it so far.

(I tried to post this a while ago, but it was right when the board was going down for maintenance. So I will try again, and hopefully it won't result in a double post! :scared1: )

I had those certain books in the old days that I drew on. You don't realize something's value - either monetary or personal - when you are however old I was when I was drawing!:rotfl: But once I got into the late '80s and '90s, I was collecting several hardback versions of cool Disney books (not everything - only the ones that appealed to me). Some of them have been updated now and the cover artwork has changed but they are still sold in some version or another, and others have disappeared (maybe someone has them on Ebay?).

I have a feeling you have probably seen or heard of most of the books I bought ages ago, but just in case you haven't and want to look for something specific online or in an old book store, the old ones I got and really like are:

- Encyclopedia of Walt Disney's Animated Characters (love it; out of date)
- Walt Disney's Treasury of Children's Classics (out of date)
- Walt Disney's Treasury of Cartoon Classics
- The Illustrated Treasury of Disney Songs (outdated!)
- The New Illustrated Disney Songbook
- The Disney Villain (awesome)
- Disney's Storybook Collection
- Disney's Family Story Collection
- The Disney that Never Was (great for Disneyland buffs)
- The Art of Mickey Mouse (great book - can't recommend it highly enough - includes an illustration of Mickey Mouse and Snoopy together done by Charles Schulz; can't beat that!)
- The Disney Poster: From Mickey Mouse to Aladdin (whew! That's out of date too! Great pictures, though!)
- Walt Disney World - 20 Magical Years (outdated!)
- Disneyland (that is the only title)
- Disneyland - Dreams, Traditions and Transitions

And those are the most interesting ones. There's also a Winnie the Pooh Treasury, but can't remember the exact title of it.

But in any case, no collection is complete without the Disneyland Encyclopedia, for pete's sake. I MUST have it! But I must wait a few months for the Fun Card!

I recently found my Disneyland planning book from 1990. Talk about a flash from the past. So, my daughters and I started a pre-trip report. The thread is in my signature now.

Wow you have plenty of books !!

I'm really interested in The Disney Villain, The Art of Mickey Mouse, and The Disney Poster: From Mickey Mouse to Aladdin. Very cool sounding :)

I need to focus on collecting one thing at a time

First the vinylmation figures, then books!

Sweet :) I'm totally subbed!

You can imagine the frenzy I was in while collecting books and watches and magnets die cast attraction figures and all kinds of other Disney stuff back in the old days. Too much cute or interesting stuff to handle! The money practicaly jumped out of my wallet and into Disney's hands!:lmao:

Funny - those three books you said you are the most interested in are the ones I suspected you would be most interested in!! I had a feeling.;) The Art of Mickey Mouse paperback version was sold in Disneyana for a while. I didn't look to see if they were still selling it last year. It would be worth it just to flip through it so you can see the different artists' renderings of Mickey Mouse. It is really cool. But I do love The Disney Villain and The Disney Poster - as well as the Disney that Never Was and The Encyclopedia of Walt Disney Characters - a lot. Great books, outdated or not! Now I just have to get the Disneyland Encyclopedia and I will feel complete.

I am - and this will sound weird - glad in a way that I stopped collecting Disney stuff avidly a long time ago - when there was no money to do so anymore. I was starting in with the pin craze, but fortunately stopped myself before I got carried away with pins. Can you imagine the temptation I would be facing now, with ALL the pins that come out constantly? I would never be able to handle them all.

I'm taking my time on collecting pins and I'm only selecting ones that I absolutely want. The last time I was there (with the exception of the vinylmation pins), I only bought 3 pins that I wanted.

If those books are at DLR, I might just get them. I'll have the fun card anyway and Eric did give me disney dollars that I will have to spend ;)

You know the frist trip we went on that I saw the pins I went crazy. Then last time I got three pins. I have to control myself. Next trip there is going to be money set aside for me to buy the kitchen stuff I want. I love the Mickey Mouse kitchen pieces I have seen.

Oh I knowww. Kaycee bought me a black & white pitcher shaped like the classic mickey head, black & white salt & pepper shakers, and I bought the mickey apron with my name on it (I bought one for Kaycee too :))

Wow! Sherry that's some book collection! So far I have resisted collecting anything specific and just grab up anything I like. I am thinking I really might need to get me that Disneyland Encyclopedia!

wazowskiLOVER:) have lots of fun picking up some goodies with your gift card and Disney dollars! Hard to go wrong with gifts like that! The year that I knew our DD, DSIL and DGS were going to DL with us I gave them Disney dollars all year long for birthdays, anniversaries and Christmas. When they got to the park they had a tidy sum built up to buy souvenirs and add to their food budget.

Oh yeah, Sherry.... I'm July 31st. Good month! :thumbsup2

Oh speaking of birthdays, was I rude and didn't state when the guys' birthdays are ? If I didn't, sorry!

Rj's is on the 7th I believe, TheAXIOM's is on the 11th (you can get a free slurpee on that day if you go to 7-ELEVEN, and my dad's is on the 12th. We might go for one of those guy's birthdays ;)

We have two July birthdays. Kody is July 5 and Loren is July 25. We are kind of weird we two April, two may and two July. Hmm a trend.

I know for a fact that at one time or another I saw The Art of Mickey Mouse and The Disney Villain in the Disneyana shop. Actually, they probably had all of the ones I mentioned at one point, but I remember The Art of Mickey Mouse sticking around longer. And they had some of them in the storybook area off of the Emporium, I think it is. The thing is I only poked my head into Disneyana for a split second last year and I don't remember if I noticed The Art of Disney then, or if I saw it years ago. It seems like one of those books that would perpetually be on sale there, because it doesn't really require updates. You know where else I have seen it more recently (not counting regular book stores)? The museum shop!! LACMA is right up the street from me, and when I have been in their gift shop looking for other things I saw Art of Mickey Mouse and I THINK I saw The Disney Poster as well. So that is another place to check for it if you don't find it at Disneyland. But hopefully you can find it and get it for free - you will have the Fun Card, the Disney Dollars AND your AP discount to use towards goodies when you go!!! Woo hoo! Bonanza o' treats!:cool1:

Yes, those pins can get out of control. For a while I was seeing too many cute ones that I absolutely 'needed to have,' just like it was with the watches back in the '90s, and it was getting dangerous. So when money disappears, there is just no pin-buying allowed for me, and everything starts to look less 'necessary.';) But if I spend too long in the shops and look at all the cute stuff, I can easily get pulled back into that vortex again!

Question...do they put the name on for you? That would be kind of a cute gift for my Kacy and Kody if I could get their names spelled right on it.

YEs. I'm not ure if it is only temporary, but towards the back of the clothiers on main street they were doing stitching to what you ask for specifically. I'll take a picture of it and post it up as soon as I can. They charge though!

I just referred someone over in a Character Meal thread over here to your Trip Report, to look at all your pictures from Minnie and Friends. I was trying to remember all the characters I have heard of being there (seeing that I never ate there myself), and I couldn't recall if Mariezp had gone to Minnie's in her TR, so your Trip Report was the first one I thought of where I knew for sure you guys had done the Minnie's character meal!!:cool1: :cool1:

I expect nothing less of Disney. Gosh they charge for everything and I normally never blink an eye. Well not noticably anyway.

I'm also Mariezp's PR agent! As I told her long ago, you can mail the check to my home address!!!:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I think I told a Jonas Brothers fan to check out Courtney's report too. Woo hoo! Spreading the love around the DIS!!! :yay:

Everyone may as well cross-promote each other's Trip Reports, especially if they are good ones and have something specific that people would be interested in. And since I have not been to the Minnie and Friends breakfast yet, I knew you had been and had taken pictures!!!

Sorry guys, this is going to be kind of a rant. I've been lurking on threads (and sometimes participating) discussing changes to the park. The purists of DL get upset over things like HMH and the newly renovated IASW. I completely understand that everyone has their own opinions and they have the right to say so, but it completely baffles and slightly annoys me that they continue to complain about changes that have ALREADY happened. What can the complaining do? They won't change things back because it has already been done. Que sera people.

I'm pretty stoked about seeing IASW newly refurbished and sprinkled with Disney magic all over that ride. According to the new encyclopedia I have, the ride is approximately 15 minutes long. The song remains for the most part, the same and the dolls are similar. I do get slightly bored after a while and for the people who cringe with the thought of going on the ride, it will be a good change to see some familiar faces put into the ride. Like Walt said, "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." I wish people would remember that before they go off and complain about changes. They have to somehow draw new and younger crowds in to keep the wheels turning. GEEZ.

I agree with you. It's good for the park to continue being improved/changed as technology changes and different generations visit the park. The characters outfits change, flowers change, decorations, themes, fireworks, etc. Why not rides too?

I don't think ANYONE wants to change the spirit of Disneyland, and every change is made with the best of intentions.
