The Wayside Inn is a non profit educational and charitable trust. It was established by Henry Ford in 1946... it was partially destroyed in a fire and restored in 1956.. The Chapel is non sectarian and was built by Henry Ford in honor of his Mother and Mother in law. it is called the Martha-Mary Chapel
The Redstone School was built in 1798 in Sterling, MA. but was moved to its present site by Mr. Ford in 1926.. It is famous as the school of Mary and her Little lamb.. It is said that the author of the poem and original Mary went there to school..

I have to say, this was a great spot to visit.. It was cold today but I can imagine how beautiful it is on a summer day or in the fall.. The Grist Mill is a working mill but is a reproduction built in l929.. All baked goods at the inn are made from flour and meal stone ground at the Mill..

The Inn itself dates to 1702 and has strong connections to the battles at Concord and Lexington.. In fact, many of the townspeople preparing for battle met at the Inn and were led into battle by Colonel How, the original owner of the Inn..

Hope I did not bore you with the details, I just found it intriguing. it was a great day

I love the Inn Marsha. When I got married it was a where we had our rehersal dinner. It is such a cool place because of the history and the atmosphere, not to mention that the food is very good. I am glad you had a great time there with Carrie. You derserved a great birthday!

It's looks beautiful, Marsha. I'm so glad you had a nice day! I'm fascinated by American history and Americana. (you'd never know it by my grades in high school!) New England is filled with all of that. We lived in Mystic for a year, back around 1981. That was wonderful. I bet you're right, it would be a beautiful spot in the summer, too! Thanks for the pictures! :)

Barb, if you come for a visit to Boston, I will take you there. Hint, hint.. any other takers.. DisMeet at the Wayside Inn... LOLOLOL

hey Barb...take her up on the offer...me me me me ...I'll go

Marsha, I had a friend that lived in Sudbury (I went to Framingham State) and he took me to the Wayside Inn. WE walked the grounds and had a great time. I really liked the grist mill. Maybe I'll take my DD's there sometime for a piece of history!!!

Great pictures.....thanks.

my two trips out there I was just fasinated with the history of that whole NewEngland area- I love history and old things. Thanks for these pictures and the story with them I love it:)

Ok, I'm there!!! :) We just have to find a date when we're not doing anything! ;) I think that would be so great!! :) :)

I used to live a few miles from there, in Acton. It is such a lovely area, I miss being close to the orchards and backroads. Have you been out to Harvard (west on Rt. 2) to visit the Fruitlands Museum? Such a beautiful place for a Sunday brunch, incredible views from there. :)

Thanks for posting this! Wow, it brings back such memories as this is one of my mother's favorite places to visit. Remember going there for lunch, eating the yummy breads and getting to buy something from the little gift shop (one of those toy block/picture puzzles in a box with beautiful graphics). Glad you had a fabulous day, even if it was cold.
