The Walking Dead on AMC

I found it interesting that the host if the Talking Dead referred to the Govenor twice in the past tense. He even corrected himself the second time. I hope the Gov is a goner.

While we don't know (or at least I don't - I avoid spoiler sites like the plague) what will happen next week, we do know that David Morrissey signed on for this season and there has been absolutely no hint that his run on the show will extend beyond that. So I don't think referring to him in the past tense is giving anything away.

Merle's death was intense. His eyes, the lip quiver. He recognized his brother. Merle was still there. Kind of reminded me of how Morgan's wife recognized the house where she died. She turned the doorknob because there was a part of her what knew her family was inside. Plus she returned back to the place and later bit her son.

It was a beautifully written/shot scene. For a second even I wondered if Daryl would have it in him to kill walker-Merle or if that would be the one thing that was too much to ask of him, like with Morgan and his wife.

Yes, that was the son, but I didn't see where the dad was in all of that. And they all just dissappeared, we didn't get to see any of the immediate aftermath there either.

The father was in the preview for next week, so either he wasn't there or Merle just didn't get a shot at him.

Didn't this really show how evil the Governor is? He knew fully well that Merle would turn into a zombie. That man is pure evil and I'm going to miss him when they finally take him out.

Any bets on who that will be? I'm thinking Andrea or Michonne.

He really is. He shot him in the chest very deliberately, so that he could get his revenge even after Merle's death. I'll miss him too, Morrissey really made that character brilliant and creepy in ways that the Governor in the comics can't hold a candle to.

I had hoped it would be Merle to take him down. That would have been the ultimate in redemption. But with him gone, I'm thinking either Daryl or Glenn. I'd love to see it be Glenn, he tends to be undervalued when it comes to butt-kicking potential and after what happened when he & Maggie were at Woodbury he certainly has plenty of reason.

I don't think it will be Andrea; she's had more than one chance and always waffles or hesitates. I think she wants him dead but I don't think she has it in her to do it herself. Killing walkers is one thing, but killing the living is something entirely different. And Michonne just seems too obvious, as does Rick though I suppose if they took a "leader vs leader" tact it would make sense if it was him.

I'm not really sure who I think will take him out, so many people have good reason to. Andrea sure does, and I'd actually really like to see her do it. Michonne does, Glenn does, Rick does, and now Daryl will be hell bent on revenge. I would kind of lean toward Daryl, but this show always seems to prove me wrong LOL.

My husband and I have been behind a couple of episodes because our little one hasn't been cooperating about going to bed at night and we can't watch the show until she is sleeping. But, last night, for whatever reason, she went to bed early and we got to watch!!!

Such a great episode-I didn't see the Merle zombie coming! That scene was fantastic...

My husband brought up a good point...do you think they left the prison and headed to Woodbury? I mean it appears the governor brought everyone who could fight to the prison, leaving Woodbury defenseless. Maybe it is possible Team Prison takes over Woodbury? I really don't know...all I know is I want to see the Governor go DOWN!!!:rotfl2:

And in thinking more, I do agree Glenn is undervalued in that way, and I would love to see him get his revenge also, but if it goes that way, I hope it doesn't result in death for Maggie.

I don't know if Andrea will do it...she has just waffled back and forth about it.

I really hope Michonne or Maggie get to have a hand in his death, if he does die.

I don't know if I would like Glenn to take him out because it is kind of trite (as in, he is the one responsible for avenging Maggie, rather than her doing it for herself).

The other thing I thought about, what if they get Carol to kill him off? I thought they were kind of setting something up because of that scene with Merle (Merle stated she wasn't scared of anything and she had changed so much from the last time he was in the group). Also, she hasn't had a lot going on with her character this season, so it might make sense to do something big with her character in the season finale...

That would be fantasic! I love Carol! And you are right, it was a rather odd conversation for them to have.
In my own personal dreamland, I would also love to see Carol comfort Daryl, but I know there will no time for that.

I suppose there is a small posibility one of his own could take him out as well, someone like Milton, who while he used to believe in him, has seen him turn into a monster.

I was also thinking this might be where Ben's father will snap (after losing both his wife and his son now) and take it out on the Gov.

I wish I hadn't read the spoilers, since I knew exactly what was going to happen, it was not very intense. I am going to try to stay away from next weeks spoilers. I actually read a detailed description of the entire episode. I couldn't help myself! How does this stuff get leaked and does anyone get in trouble for leaking it? Obviously it had to be someone on the cast or crew.

Anyway, not sure if anyone mentioned it yet but DARRYL is going to be on Talking Dead next week!!!!!!! Love him!!!!!

Women are so devalued in the Walking Dead societies that I hope its a female that ends up killing the governor, but I doubt it'll happen. Perhaps it will be the thing to snap Rick back into reality. Or Darryl getting revenge for his brother.

Ya know, I'm kind of thinking the prison group will head to Rick's hometown and to Morgan. During the previews for next week's show, they showed a blurb of Rick & Morgan. Now that COULD be a flashback to when Rick, Carl & Michonne were there earlier but.... Morgan does have that place secure. Maybe Rick will try once more to save Morgan while also saving the rest of his crew?

I'm kind of leaning to the Governor not believing that Rick & his gang are gone so he just keeps driving his men deeper and deeper into the prison until they all get stuck in the tombs. Maybe Rick left a little ****ytrap of his own to ensure they get stuck for once and for all?

And I just have to applaud Norman Reedus - he was nothing short of brilliant with walker Merle! So very heart wrenching.

I saw Morgan too but I realized then that they were showing clips from the rest of the season, leading up to the finale.
I wish it was Sunday already!!!

The thing I keep thinking is where the heck will they go? They keep saying they want to leave the prison, but really how much gas can they have in the cars and they will be targets if they keep moving. It didn't work over the winter when it showed them hopping from house to house with walkers on their heels. I don't think they will go to Morgan, I think they tied that up, but who knows.

I'm going to preface this by saying that I haven't yet read any of the other posts with comments about last night's show. This post from anniemae was the first one I saw and I wanted to reply while I had time.

I totally, 100% agree about the spoilers ruining the intensity. The funny thing is, I am usually the sort of person who seeks out spoilers for shows up to a point. I like reading spoilers for maybe a certain number of episodes in a series if the series is something that could go a few different directions. Then I stop reading spoilers or looking for them when it's getting close to the end of a season because most shows do the big things at the end of the season. (Of course, TWD kills important people all season long so it's a bit of a rarity!)

In the case of TWD, I had not read any spoilers for the entire season - last year or this year. We had already lost some fairly important cast members this season, so I didn't think that reading spoilers for one show would make a big difference to me. This past week was the one and only time I looked for spoilers on TWD, and it was so easy to find them! I was shocked at how easily the photos and synopsis for last night's episode could be found! So, when I watched last night's show I kept thinking that maybe those easy-to-find spoilers were just put out there to throw us all off.

And, of course, it turned out the spoilers were totally accurate!:rotfl2:

To be honest, even if I hadn't read the spoilers about last night's episode, I wouldn't have been shocked at the outcome at all - but I would have felt more involved in the sequence of events without that knowledge. Likewise, I will not be shocked if and when the Governor 'gets his' at some point. All the bad guys - even the ones who are sort of good guys who eventually turned bad - end up getting their comeuppance. So the Governor will die at some point - I just don't know if it will be on Sunday, and I don't know who will be the one to take him down.

I still have to go back to the telltale avoidance of the hypothetical question that Chris Hardwick asked Lauren Cohan/Maggie on Talking Dead, about whether Maggie would save Hershel or Glenn if they were both about to die. She clearly dodged answering it and looked very uncomfortable, even though it was a hypothetical question.

Last night, to me it seemed like we were really supposed to care even more about Maggie and Glenn as a couple than we already do, and care about Hershel giving his stamp of approval on their relationship. Those scenes were meant to get us more attached to those characters and get us invested in what happens to them. So, I think that we are going to see a scene coming up in which Glenn and Hershel are both in peril, and one of them is going to go. Whichever one of them it is who goes first, it will be heartbreaking. And I am not reading any spoilers for Sunday's episode! None!

I avoid spoilers at all costs, on a show like this, it just ruins it for me. Actually I dont like spoilers for any shows/movies.

I saw the pictures of Walker Merle the day before, but I didn't know anything else. I agree that seeing that lessened the intensity of his death for me, but the rest of the episode had me on pins and needles because I didn't know what else would happen.

If the Governor does die, I think it only appropriate that Rick do it.

As for where they go next, Alexandria? I doubt they would head to Fort Benning, since Tony and Dave said it was overrun before Rick shot them in Season 2.

I'm the same way. Takes all the fun out of watching it if you know what's going to happen. I wasn't even planning to start the Walking Dead comics until after the series ends.

I don't like spoilers either but I have been tempted to read the comics just to see how different the two are.

The comics are so different that they're not spoilers for the show. There's no Daryl or Merle at all, for example, and many of the characters that do exist in both are so very different that the name is practically the only commonality between the two versions.
