The Walking Dead on AMC

I read on another board that the flashes were an homage to the comics. From what was posted, the comics have the zombies reacting to sound. So the zombies heard the gunshot and were preparing to go toward it even as Shane was taking his last breath.

I wish it would have been talked about more on The Talking Dead.

Glad to see that what most of us thought was true from the end of last season is FINALLY coming to light-- everyone is infected and the virus is inescapable. I think Rick didn't manage to take Shane out in the head, even though he knew Shane was infected from Jenner's whisper, because he was in shock and grief over being forced to do something so horrible to his best friend, his "brother".

My thoughts on the zombie flashes was that they are the last few bits of thought, hallucinations from the virus, going through a person's mind as they die and their brain stem begins to reawaken. And yes, Jim had them, too.

Can NOT wait for next week's episode. Zombies and more zombies! It's totally making up for the slow start to the season.

My thoughts also!!

I've about decided that they are all carriers of this zombie plague. For some reason it seems to manifest only after they die for some.

I'm uncertain about the zombie flashes. I'm sure that the writers are hinting at something... But what?

It seems to be following the lore of Romero. When one dies, they become a zombie, even if they aren't bitten or scratched.

I thought the zombie flashes might indicate that the zombies have some sort of hive mind connection, hence their proclivity for traveling in herds. Shane was making that hive connection with the flashes. Just a theory.

Good thought.

Remember when Jim was dying in the RV, he was having flashes of zombies in his mind. i thought that was odd.

I totally forgot about Jim.

Carl interrupted Rick. That scene had me stumped when I first watched it. I questioned everyone's theory about what the CDC guy told Rick, given the fact he made sure to shoot the 2 guys in the head at the bar and not Shane. However, as you say, Rick was caught in the moment of grief and had not collected himself before Carl walked up.

If these Zombies have enough thought process to use rocks, etc to break glass to get into that department store in Atlanta (season 1), then I wonder if they, or at least a few, would have enough thought to use a gun if they found one.

My thought about last night is that at some point in the past Shane was infected. His immune system must have been awesome not to have succombed to the change earlier, but that is my thought. I have also noticed over the course of the season that he seemed to be having weird "mental breaks" where he would grunt like the zombies and do something very aggressive, like kill someone. I think he has been fighting the change the whole season. I may be totally off base, but we will find out what is going on at some point!

Another thing that gives credibility to everyone being infected is the kid Shane took out to the woods last night. He broke his neck and then went back to the farm. That kid was the zombie who attacked Glenn and Darryl.

That's why they were looking him over and saying he died from a broken neck, and that there were no bites or scratches on him. That's also why Shane couldn't find his body where he left it, in the woods, he got up and moved.

I think Rick stayed with Shanes body because he was waiting to see if he would turn, and confirm what the CDC doctor told him. I think, in his grief, he was distracted by Carl and momentarily forgot what he was doing out there.

I think we'll find out, for sure, next week that our guesses have been correct about what the CDC doctor told Rick.

What I want to know is where the heck did all those zombies come from at the end? There looks to be hundreds of them, no way they group has enough ammo to deal with that! They would need several machine guns and several hundred rounds at the minimum.

Happy to see the end of Shane. :thumbsup2

My biggest complaint over the last couple of episodes has been the total lack of responsiblity when it comes to Carl. You would think someone would always be watching him. First because he was shot and nearly died. Not enough reason? How about what happened to Sophia? No? Then what about him wanting Randall dead? Constant roaming and listening in on the adult conversions? Stealing Daryl's gun? Knowing about Dale's zombie? Or Randall's gang of theives and rapists? What about the MILLIONS OF ZOMBIES that surround the farm?????

Ack....someone call CPS!

Everytime I see Carl roaming around on his own I wonder if his parents want him dead? I mean who else would let their kid roam around under those circumstances? And their having another one. Just give it to the zombie to raise?

We will find out whether we're right or wrong about that, definitely... spoilers of the entire plot summary of the finale are all over the internet, as they have been for every episode about a week prior to the air date. I'm not posting them because I realize a lot of people don't want to know, and if you do, I'm sure you won't mind doing the digging :)

On the bus, didn't Shane stab a walker in the head, then shortly after, cut his own hand with the same knife so he could smear blood near the door to attract/distract walkers, making them easier to kill?

I haven't seen last nights show yet but I'm counting the hours until my kids are in bed so I can. :) You guys notice so much more about the show then I do. Then again I'm half hiding under my blanket. lol.

That's what I think too. It's just letting us have a peek at what is going on inside their "brain" as they die/re-animate.

If that is true, and is what Jenner told Rick, why did Rick want to hang Randall? Why not just shoot him in the head? Was he planning on hanging him and then giving him a pitchfork to the noggin' as well?

Yup, they so know that Shane killed him. Not sure they know he has it in for Rick, but shouldn't take much to convince them after what they saw.

WHAT WAS CARL DOING IN THE FIELD????? OMG! Lori is the world's worst mother!!!! Randall is on the loose (as far as they know), Zombies are around, the gang is around, and she let's Carl go off at night by himself! IDIOT!!!!

I did feel bad for Rick having to kill Shane, I think that's why he didn't do the head stab right away. Kudos to Carl for shooting him. Nice shot!

I don't think Shane was turning prior to Rick killing him either. I think he was just sent over the edge by Lori. She may have been trying to mend fences with him after Dale was killed (fix the broken group) but he's way too invested in her to take that in a rational way.

Only one more episode?? I can't wait for it and yet I want it to last!

I don't KNOW that is what is going on for sure...I am just guessing like everyone else.

I think Rick was counting on it snapping his neck and severing the spinal cord(I know the cord isn't always severed when a neck is broken). He says something about the neck breaking when he is talking to Lori about it.
