The Walking Dead on AMC

He did, and at the time I thought that was weird. Why shoot them in the head? They're dead due to a gun shot, not because of a zombie bite, so there's no chance of them becoming zombies...Zombies don't attack corpses, only the living. So why the gunshot to the head?

I think the speculation here, about what the doctor whispered to Rick at the CDC, may have something to do with his shooting them in the head.

But didn't the Dr too explain to them that the amount of time it takes to become a Zombie can vary from minutes to days. So maybe he shot them in the head in case they had been scratched or bit but hadn't changed over yet. :confused3

I don't remember exactly, but could you be recalling back when he was trying to get in touch (on the CB) with the man and his son from season 1 episode 1 and he was trying to warn them to stay away from Atlanta?

Ah..that could be it. I couldn't remember what he was speaking into..just that he was talking into something. That would make sense..that also makes me think whatever he was going to say about Jenner was not about Lori's pregnancy.

Yeah, Rick's not gun-happy. When he did that, it gave me another reason to believe that what Jenner told them was that they're all infected, and regardless of which way they die, unless it's a shot to the head, they'll become walkers.

Of course, sometimes I think that we're all theorizing, and the writers of the show have no clue where they're going with it....

That's a good point, but nothing was shown that would lead us to believe they had been bitten or scratched....So the bullet to the head seemed like overkill to me. Maybe the sick girl at the farm will clear up these questions next week.

Rick also seemed to hesitate before he shot the bigger guy in the head, which made me think there's something bigger going on that we don't know about yet. And, I think you're spot on about the bolded section.

I am actually with you I don't think they even know were they are going with it. I mean after all they have to make interesting and try to get the most seasons they can so they make more money. I think she got scratch when she went to see her mother and it is not that the virus is dormant.

Have not read this thread in forever, I guess because the show was dormant for a while, but since it is based on the pictorial book (comic) The Walking Dead, is not most of the story already written for it. According to a Zombie Guru I work with who has read all the books (comics) it has stayed fairly close to the story to this point. I will provide no spoilers even though I got my friend to spill a lot of details but admit that if it stays close to the original it is hard to read all the speculation without wanting to comment.

For all of your's benifit and my own I may have to stay away from this discussion.

I thought there was a huge variation right off the bat with one of the more main characters in regards to what happens to them in the comics vs the TV show. My guess is they will continue to deviate based on how people respond to characters, situations..etc like they do with most book to TV series (True Blood is one example that has some major variations).

I've read the first 48 issues - It has strayed in some ways that surprised me. Up to the point we are at now per the comics vs. the show (no spoilers as I don't go past where the show is currently): Shane is dead (killed even before the farm storyline), Sophia is NOT dead - this surprised me ALOT because in the comics she is a MAIN character, CDC episode(s) doesn't even exist in the comic books.

If that really is Sophia who is dead - I have completely thrown out the fact that even main characters in the comics have a chance in the show. Additionally I have found certain sections in the comics are EXTREMELY dark - more so than the show so I am interested to see how/if they take it to that point.

Flesh on a corpse generally rots off the bone in 2-3 months. How long will it be before the Zombies are just skeletons?
:confused3

This and I also wondered about the zombies starving. I mean, will they just go on and on, days, months, or even years without food and still be "alive"?

Good point...as live survivors dwindle I wonder what will happen to them. Obviously they don't have to eat humans and animals suffice but that will run out too. Not sure what their "needs" are in regards to eating.

My DH and I just watched 27 Weeks (or something like that) and the plan was to starve the Zombies out. I think it was like 6 months and they figured they would all have "died" from starvation. Of course, if you've seen the movie, you know things don't go as planned :rolleyes1 In The Walking Dead, the Walkers eat things other than humans. The farm folks fed them chickens (as a chicken owner, I almost barfed when they broke the girls legs! I was not prepared for that!), the Walker in the woods they gutted had eaten a rodent. If they can live off non-human flesh, I think they could be around a long time. Wild-life reproduces and, in The Walking Dead, doesn't appear to be infected like they are in some Zombie stories.

The zombie the guys cut open to check for Sophia had food in its stomach, so I assume they are swallowing what they bite. Why is there no droppings on the streets? Does the digestive process stop at the stomach? I'm thinking too much here....lol. They need to lock a zombie in a building in town and see how long it takes for him to "die" with no food. These things seem to survive with half a body and 3/4 decapitated. That one zombie in the barn that peeked out toward Shane looked like the Crypt Keeper. Feeding and starving don't seem to make a difference. We need some answers....lol. They need to ask Herschel for more details about his wife's timeline from infection to barnageddon. Gotta give Mommy Dearest credit......she went out wearing her Sunday best with jewelry.

I got called away from the computer half way through my post. Seems we think alike on some points...lol You beat me to it.

Enjoyed the first new episode.....love the show after!

I would like that. I think Jenner whispered to Rick, after he checked all their blood, that they were all already infected. And that no matter how they die, unless it's by a blow to the head, they will come back a zombie.

This explains so much!

I don't believe you can starve these Walkers. They don't have any digestive processes, so I don't think they can starve. They are dead, after all.

And the story is going to deviate in many ways from the graphic novels. Robert Kirkman is the Executive Producer of the show so he is maintaining the parts of the storyline that he feels are imperative but he's also writing in some offshoots to keep his readers interested in the TV series.

The actor who plays Shane is being considered for a role on another upcoming TV series. Not sure if that's been mentioned, but it does seem like he may be available. :confused3

I think that walkers wont necessarily starve, but they will decompose. I think that after time they will become slower.

In the comic book, a bite from a zombie doesn't make you a zombie, a bite from a zombie gives you a nasty infection that will kill you (or the bite will do more serious injuries and kill you) It is dying that makes you a zombie.

Could someone else explain what happens in next weeks preview? I missed that.

I've continued to read the comics, but I know a lot of people gave up on them because of how dark they got. There is never a "winning" moment for the people in the comics, and can get very depressing at times.
