The walking dead amc #2

I general don't try to over-analyze, and I have no problem suspending disbelief - science fiction and fantasy are among my favorite genres. Things do not need to all add up for me, generally speaking! But for me, I struggle more when the characters don't stay (reasonably) true to themselves - like the example I used with Maggie - you don't get to be the Widow, leader of the Hilltop, making rookie mistakes like that and it seemed out of character. It especially bothers me when I feel it's to move the plot forward at the expense of the character. In this case I guess I'm chalking it up to her conflict about her desire for revenge overshadowing her commitment to take care of the Hilltop people causing her to make errors in judgement?

In any case, I've been watching from the beginning but I've noticed that I've changed my viewing behavior. Usually, I watch on Sunday nights but I may be interrupted dealing with kids, or I may have to change the channel briefly because I don't love the gore. I'm less a gore person and more into the premise of how do societal norms break down in a crisis. Anyway, typically, I re-watch the show more carefully later in the week, but lately I find I don't make an effort to re-watch. But I'm hanging in there for now.
This is us too. It used to be pretty much the only show we watched live or close to live & made an effort to be ready to watch by the time it came on. Now we watch it when we get around to it.

I ended the epi last night saying, "Really???" They leave the front door wide open? I get it's hot, but really? Walker falls down the stairs and nobody wakes up? Really?? They figure it out that quickly what the Saviors did. Really???
Why did some prisoners turn?? I don't get that one.
I do believe Tara won't turn & they realize Dwight actually saved her again & is still on their side. But I don't believe Tara has already forgiven him. Too quick of a transition.
BTW, there was someone watching the injured while the DR was gone. When the other dude was in pain, he got up to go get the Dr when Tobin bit him. Then the DR returned and was bit. My question is why do some walker just bite & move on while other walkers stay to feast on the person? Wouldn't Tobin have fed on the Dr than just bite her? Was it the baby crying that attracted him to the house?

And that was a ridiculous trick by AMC listing TWD as a 2 hr episode!

I could be wrong, but I think that some of the prisoners who were on the porch with Maggie got hit with arrows from the Saviors. I seem to recall the Saviors firing a bunch of arrows at them, and that's when they were all herded into the house. I assume a few of them got hit causing them to turn.

Ok that makes sense.

I usually watch these shows for mindless entertainment. I look forward to the down time. TWD has been an amazing show...from season 4 on, IMO. This season is getting so ridiculous, it is almost an insult to us viewers.

OK...I can accept that the show wants to all of a sudden change it up, so that now Walker blood is deadly. Makes sense, since a bite is deadly. In the earlier seasons, when I would see them fighting and killing walkers with open wounds, I wondered why they didn't get infected, because NOBODY EVER DID. So, fine...after so many years..all of a sudden walker blood (how do they even have blood? They have no pumping heart) is now deadly. GOT IT. What I refuse to accept, is that once you get infected with said blood...death is instantaneous??????? Your own healthy immune system does not kick in with it's normal defense, no fever? No chills? Gabriel was sick for DAYS.....and then responded instantaneously to the antibiotic they found.(probably expired, but hell....who cares?) Just awake talking to Carol, go to sleep, take your last breath in your sleep, and BINGO...you are now a walker.

Now, can we talk about all those sleeping on a floor, like sardines? Every. single. person. was sleeping like the dead.(cause the floor is so comfortable.) Not one light sleeper or insomniac in the crowd. They just ran off Negan's men..literally a few hours prior to lights out..not one person was amped up and couldn't sleep? How about being concerned they may come back? Oh and the front door is WIDE OPEN???? (if it was because of stifling heat, again, more than one person should have been awake).

I am rambling, probably saying what other's already pointed out, but I realize I am a little angry. This show is just a cluster of stupidness. No set plot or storyline to follow. They have veered so far off the comics, I don't know if they can get back. Especially with killing off Carl, since he is such a huge character in the comics. Kirkman may as well walk away, and force them to give him a big, juicy check before doing so.

Speaking of the bolded, isn't the zombie infection supposed to be a virus, or did I just make an assumption I shouldn't have? Obviously, antibiotics would only help Gabriel if his illness was bacterial in origin, so either 1) Gabriel's got some other random infection that's not zombie related, 2) the zombie infection is bacterial and everyone up to this point could've taken a course of antibiotics and kept on living, or 3) Gabriel just had a bad case of pink eye but was never in danger of having "been infected." I'm missing something, right? The writers wouldn't make this bad of a mistake. ??

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA :rotfl2::rotfl2:

You funny!

AND A CRYING BABY!!

Me, watching that scene:

"No one hears that baby? .....Seriously, an entire house full of people can sleep through a baby crying in the middle of the night? .....No one hears those loud*** walkers? Not ONE person can hear the crying baby OR the heavy-breathing walkers?!" **walker tumbles down the stairs and lands at the bottom playing a set of drums while everyone continues to sleep soundly** "OH, COME ON!!!"
Hysterical....and accurate! Why is the Benny Hill theme in my head?!

Something just popped in my head re: the issue of whether a puncture wound with walker guts is deadly but smearing guts over an open cut isn't...

Back in the prison, wasn't Rick hacking away at walkers before using the same weapon to amputate Herschel's leg? If that's right, why didn't Herschel die? :confused3

I know this is no Sixth Sense, but I do wonder if someone went back through the series if this new plot device would hold water at all.

Or would they use the "get out of stupid free card" that SOME people must just be immune, and so then Herschel must have been?
How about Shane in season two when Rick was going to leave him in the school bus and he used the trick of slicing his hand open to stab the walkers in the head? Didn't he just get done stabbing other than walkers with that same knife? I'm pretty sure he didn't have a portable autoclave in his pocket.

And if it was b/c of stifling heat, why were so many bundled up in blankets & bedding. I’ve slept without a/c in the south in post hurricane conditions. First no one can sleep that soundly if it’s that hot & you have on as little clothes as possible!

Yes! And my son just mentioned remembering a time when Rick stabbed a walker through his own hand. I don’t recall it, but how would Rick not die from that, if they were being consistent?

I’m sure that if we wait a bit, someone out there will make a comprehensive list of all the times in 7.5 seasons that contradict this new plot device. ;)

So, a few things that bugged me...

In the category of just stupid:
  • We just had a major battle with the saviors, so let's ALL -- ALL -- just hit the hay with the mansion door wide open
  • No guards for the prisoners
  • No one guarding those injured -- they haven't learned that?
  • Everyone sleeping so soundly, that when a walker falls down the stairs into a room FULL of sleeping people, not one wakes up
  • Multiple people getting killed like in a silent film: bitten from behind in the neck, shoulder and not a PEEP out of them
  • The kid opens the wire gate to kill the guy who killed his brother... because he couldn't shoot them THROUGH said gate

I call BS:
  • Our heroes have MANY times gotten walker guts splattered all over themselves, or have smeared it deliberately over themselves -- they have most certainly had fresh wounds some of those times. That kills exactly ZERO of them over 8.5 seasons. But this night, with the walker-guts-tainted-weapons we kill -- VERY QUICKLY -- how many people???? Find me a blood-bourne virus that works that way... through a fresh wound or cut SMEARED blood -- SAFE, vs. a puncture wound -- DEAD. Please. I. HATE. THIS.
  • If one more character TELLS me that Maggie is a "good leader" when I don't get leadership coming from her AT ALL, I think I'm going to lose it.
  • Maggie shoots a walker right in the head at... what distance?? But they turn into Stormtroopers with machine guns almost every time they're faced with Negan's people.

I just don't care:
  • About Morgan having his third (??) nervous breakdown and seeing Gavin. I get it: we need a plot device for him to take off like The Littlest Hobo and move over the FTWD. Go already.
  • Tara. Another character who turns into a loving pacifist right before they're about to die. Go away.

Comical lines that shouldn't have been comical:
  • "Maggie." "Maggie Rhee". "The WIDOW." *insert eye rolls here*... "Here we go..." oy
  • You're such a great leader.
  • "I saved you this turnip." Wow.
  • I know I'm forgetting some...

So... yeah. Waiting for season 9 and hoping it's better post-Gimple-showrunner, but like killing Carl, this now-you-can-get-infected-THIS-way thing is another one they can't just undo that I think makes the show worse. Ugh.

This. All of this. Every. Word.

The show has lost it's mind. What the heck did I just watch?? Nonsense. Atrocious. At this point it's like watching a train wreck...no...like watching two trains speeding towards each other...NO...like watching my 2 idiot cousins running towards each other, dressed in clown suits, carrying torches and wielding a morning star, riding a 3-legged rhinoceros in a tutu...

scratch that. I'd rather watch my idiot cousins.

:rotfl2: :rotfl:

In addition to all the "jump the shark" questions about this episode...

Where did Henry get the key for the savior pen?
All those people sleeping in one area and there's not one who snores?
Where were Maggie, Rick, Daryl, Michonne, et al sleeping?
Jesus all of a sudden showed back up (and then disappeared again)?
:thumbsup2

I also remember when the swine flu illness hit the prison and one of Hershels patients died and turned with the intubation tube in him and Hershel needed it for Glenn. I don't remember if he used the same tube after he took it out of the walker or he just used the bag, but either way Glenn was bleeding internally and the walker certainly was bleeding and there was NO cross contamination of the zombie virus?

And this is why the Benny Hill theme plays in my head!

Anyone else find it funny when Simon said, "I can't see *bleep*". Well that makes two of us Simon, because I can't see *bleep* either and I've been complaining about the awful nighttime lighting on this show for at least 4 seasons!!

Oh my, this show. I've been patient with it throughout all its pitfalls but this episode...LOL. Have I not been paying attention the past 8 seasons, because call me crazy but I've never seen a walker just bite someone on the neck to turn them and then move on to keep turning other people the same way. If there's no one else around to help, that person will get eaten. EATEN. Also, I've seen all of the crazy walker encounters these survivors have dealt with (remember the gorge?) and yet somehow they act like it's frickin' season 1 when they have to deal with a small handful of them bumbling loudly around their mansion in the middle of the night.

The whole "I infected your wound with zombie guts" thing just seems like another too-little-too-late attempt to justify the so-called "impracticality" of spreading zombie guts all over you in order to move freely among walkers when you're out and about. When asked previously about why they don't do this more often, I remember the show creators muttering something about "Umm errr, well it's not uh, practical cuz, uhhhh...it's gross and it uhhhh uhmmmm...washes off in the rain. Yeah." Well now this just cements the notion that it's not a good idea, even though I think we've seen enough carnage by now to realize how flimsy this sudden revelation really is.

Then to top it all off, AMC succeeded in making me even more frustrated by attaching their stupid new show to TWD in order to fool my DVR into recording it! Wow! That just makes me want to watch it even less!

Right, its like the writers forgot about LORI!!!

I am still irritated at this. First, they make me think WD is two hours. Then I realize it's just a ploy to make us record the new show.

Are you talking about the Terror? I enjoyed it, looks like it is going to be a suspenseful mind game, but then again what else would expect... it is directed by Ridley Scott (Aliens)

Does anyone remember when the Kingdom fed he pigs walkers? how cone the Saviors never
got sick?
