We returned from a 7-27-7/30 stay here (just Dh and I) and had a great time. We didn't do any parks as it was a weekend getaway, but we did go to the Boardwalk area and Downtown Disney.
The grounds are beautiful. I walked at least one morning and it is quiet and safe to walk their "jogging trail" around both Hilton and Waldorf. We swam one morning, but were up too early to rent a tube to go around the lazy river (they open at 9) and were too busy the rest of the time to take advantage again. We did spend part of an evening on the outside patio outside their bar area. We brought our own drink and they didn't seem bothered at all. A waitress asked us if we wanted anything from their bar but had no problem with our declining.
The room is very nice and spacious with a large bathroom, plenty of storage, and plenty of "floor space" to get around. My only 2 complaints with the room were that 1) our refrigerator froze everything (and we couldn't find how to adjust it) and 2) the doors are very loud when they close so if you're a light sleeper, it is annoying. We tried to close our own door quietly and it's impossible so we couldn't blame the people closing the doors.
If it's worth it for you to see the fireworks from your room, pay the extra for the Disney facing view. We had a view of Downtown Disney and it took me a while to find what part of the building you could get a clear view of Epcot from. It's not a large area, so you definitely need to ask for it (and probably pay for it). For us, it wasn't a big deal. We could see the highest fireworks from the patio area outside the bar.
There was a large blend of people staying there from conventioners to families to couples like us. Although there were plenty of people it seemed relatively quiet. You still get the occasional kid yelling down the hallway, but that's to be expected at Disney.
The shuttles were nice. The main problem is if you're going to Hollywood Studios as the shuttle goes to both Magic Kingdom AND Epcot before Hollywood Studios. We took the shuttle to HS so we could take the ferry to the boardwalk area (so we could have some adult beverages) and it took almost an hour to get to HS. However, the service to MK was quick on the way there (but they'd have the same long way back to the hotel as they are the first to be picked up going back). Epcot is the 2nd stop, so a bit of a long ride. Animal Kingdom appeared to have its own shuttle but I don't know for sure as we never went in that direction.
Overall, a very nice stay. A great "deluxe" option. I checked the price for a weekend in October when we are planning to do Epcot Food and Wine Festival...but for that particular weekend, we are better off at the Swan and Dolphin as Hilton's prices exceeded the teacher rate we get at S&D by a good $60-70/night. I think it depends on the time of year as far as price- you have to check around.
