The Villas at Disney's Grand Californian Owners & Lovers Group - 3.0

Well ccv is about to get a refurb so we will see what they do there. BLT just finished and didn’t get a refurb like this. It seems that VGC is not getting the same treatment as other resorts. Costs have increased everywhere not just in CA.
CCV would be a soft goods.

I live west coast but work in the midwest and yes, from what I see when purchasing the prices went up much more on the west coast. That may not be the largest factor though - VGC is small. There's often a scale in costs depending on project size.

I do agree that some of this is a disappointment but can see that some is also out of the DVC control. I'm kicking myself that I didn't get some home rennovations done 4-5 years ago because it's going to cost almost double now.

Do you have any data to support this statement?
I mean it's not a controversial statement. Simply flushing a toilet without the lid closed will result in a small amount of toilet water on surrounding surfaces, while I dont have any data or photographic proof for you I can say if you ever had a bathroom where the walls are painted a dark color you would see this is in fact true. Also, I live with boys... I clean up after boys. The amount of splash back that I find that hits the walls 😳

Thank you, VGCgroupie! I couldn't have said it better myself. :-)

I would like to add that I used to own a cleaning service and I have seen first-hand some of the stuff that needs to be cleaned off of bathroom walls and surfaces, and that was in people's homes where they care about the rooms staying clean. IN MY OPINION, with the amount of people using those bathrooms on a very regular basis, the wallpaper, at the very least, should be changed out with a hard-goods refurb.

Do you guys think I'll need to walk a mid/late June reservation in a 1-bedroom for 6 nights? Or will I be safe to just book at the 11-month mark?

Quick staycation. A few photos to share...

-Grass removed in this courtyard area. Replaced with gravel and mulch. Going to miss the grass if this is permanent.
-Bathroom definitely not touched in our Studio. Caulk/Grout separating at the tub.
-New Murphy bed is nice

For a freshly refurbished room that tub is no bueno 😡

I've had many relaxing tiny walks in that area with the kids. I'm wondering if they want to cause more separation between guests and those using those outside tables for the lounge. No bueno.

Wow, that’s even worse than the bathroom in the studio that I was in. Disney should be ashamed at passing this off as a hard goods refresh.

I really wish some of the news site sites or influencers would report this.. make it more public

Such a shame. I am sad and mad all at the same time.

There isn’t a DVC Influencer market for the West Coast. And then Villas at Grand Cal is so small it only impacts a relatively number of people.

I stayed in a refurbished BLT studio 1 night last month, the bathroom was refurbished. The shower wall was replaced, glass door instead of a shower curtain. To be honest, I didn’t care for BLT studios before, I thought it was kind of plain, but was ok in a pinch to add some nights. I really liked the refurb, I would consider staying there for a whole trip, especially solo. On this trip, my friend had a separate room with her son.

This is the response I got for my bathroom remodel concerns:

Another thing that I noticed that was a bit odd/disappointing. The new floors...

1)
Not a huge deal, but color choice is a bit odd. Normally floors in craftsman style homes have a much darker, rich and warm color tone. These floors are a very bright/light color.

2)
Seems like the material chosen is a thin vinyl material. See the picture of the corner curled up against the 90 degree miter of the baseboards. Instead of being flat.

3)
It's clear the baseboards were not lifted and/or replaced when the new floors were installed. Instead the new flooring is scribe cut and pushed up against the existing baseboards. Normally when new floors are installed, the baseboards are lifted and/or replaced, the new flooring is installed up against the drywall, and then the baseboards are installed ON TOP of the new flooring.

Ironic choices for a resort modeled after the arts and crafts movement. Which celebrates the work of skilled craftsmen. Specifically beautiful carpentry work. I obviously wouldn't expect REAL hardwood floors as the cost would be pretty crazy, but at least install the new floors UNDER the baseboards.

Wife and I lived in Pasadena for 8 years, and we loved all the craftsman homes in the area. So we obviously love the theme of the Grand Cal. So seeing these cost savings choices is kinda sad.
