The Updated and All-Inclusive Costume Thread

I should be packing right now, but instead I'm tired and procrastinating, so here are photos of my finished outfits for the 10k, half, and full. I just managed to finish it this afternoon! I wish I had had time to topstitch the long sleeve crop, but it's honestly nothing short of a miracle that I even managed to finish these in time, so I'll take what I can get.
I love these! Nice job!

Well I tried out my shorts that will go under my 5k dress today and I’m very glad I did bc they were NOT good. They are Lululemon Base Pace High Rise 6” shorts and the legs rolled up so high it basically looked like I was one of those sprinters who runs in underwear (except I am of course much fatter). I had to pull them down on every walk break. I’m surprised this happened bc it’s LLL. I got them significantly on sale though (and can’t return them). Besides this problem, they also just feel so thin and like there’s nothing on my legs. My Athleta shorts are much better. Thicker and don’t ride up at all.

The shorts are a specific neon purple, and you will see them with the dress because of the slit. I’m thinking I will just walk the 5K bc they’re fine if I’m only walking I think. I don’t know.

I also got my Girls on the Run shirt in the mail and it is SO cute. It has a lotus, bike, run shoe, and weight which I feel like is all my interests! It is a black racer back made of 100% Polyester… I’m contemplating wearing it for the marathon but I don’t know. I’m going to test it tmrw on my 5.5 miles.

Ugh that stinks that the shorts didn't work! I have the same issues with ride-up on those types of shorts, and I've found the Brooks Method 5-inch shorts work GREAT for me. They don't come in neon purple, but they Do come in hot pink (and I have this color and it's accurate): https://www.brooksrunning.com/en_us/womens-method-5inch-legging-shorts/221478676.040.html

I've found them on sale recently at REI in odd colors. I have these in pink, black and grey and ran in them for all four Dopey races last year with no issues.

p.s. They have massive side pockets that hold everything!
ETA it looks like they also come in 8 inch if you want them longer.

Ooo it looks like REI has the 8 inch ones (which is preferable for me) in light purple for $16. Do you think they’d work with this dress? The shorts I have now are what I’m wearing under it in the pic. I like the contrast and worry the Brooks color will be too light.

I totally think those would work! It looks to me like the light purple would match the lighter details in the dress (or at least where the light is catching it). It for sure would not clash. And $16 is a GREAT price! I think I paid almost $50 for my first pair.

Had to unpick a whole bunch of DH’s cape and figure out how to make it meet the rules for the race. This is what we ended up with. The cape is safety pinned at the collar and shoulders, and I don’t love that those are what I used, but I don’t want to sew it in either. 🤷🏻‍♀️

That doesn't look bad at all! If you wanted something different, you could hand sew a few snaps on each shoulder or use velcro? But this works!

Tested out my marathon look again today with a few changes: longer shorts, my GOTR tank, and I pinned the tulle of my skirt in the back like was suggested. I think the longer shorts are more practical although I’m a bit self-conscious of how it looks. The GOTR tank worked out well. I just need to make sure I put body glide on my arms because I can sometimes chafe with tank tops. And the safety pins fixed the problem of the tulle riding up in the back.

So, what do we think?

Love it!

Not as crafty or as imaginative as the rest of the amazing people in this thread, but I'm quite pleased with the results I got for my Figment hat just using felt, markers and a hot glue gun.
