Changed from a regular family suite to accessible with roll- in shower. My dad uses a shower seat and grab bars here and on toilet. I didn’t think about that initially but luckily this was available. Just wondering if anyone can verify there is a seat in the shower? Since they are newly remodeled maybe no one has experienced it yet. Kinda looks like a seat in a photo but they aren’t the best views. I’m sure he will manage but it would be nice.

I agree the pictures aren't the greatest. It does appear to be a seat just to the left inside the shower.

thanks. That’s what I was thinking too. Maybe I can find an online video of one. They haven’t been remodeled very long so there probably ain’t much data out there. Maybe I will ask in the ASMu thread too.

If you get there, and there is no seat in the shower (there will be if you have reserved a roll-in shower room, cross my heart!) then you can call Housekeeping and ask for a seat to be brought around. In the spirit of full disclosure, those seats can be a bit.... well-loved and well-used, so you also have the option to just have Amazon deliver one. You should be able to grab one for around $30, and just leave it there when you check out if you don't want to lug it home.

The biggest concern for me would be if it is the firm surface seat, or the "sling" style mesh seat. The mesh seat can be difficult for some folks because it has some "give" to it, and we had a member here who struggled with transfers with that style of seat. I don't like it for other reasons LOL. Having said that, we also have folks here who have no problems with it at all. Your mileage may vary...

It appears in the picture that our friend @landjudy posted that it is the firm surface seat, and I will bet you beignets at POFQ that it will fold up out of the way so that others who don't need it can stand directly under the shower.

thanks mamabunny. I don’t think he could get out of a mesh seat without help. We will see when we get there. I think the room will be almost perfect for our needs. Maybe I will take a bunch of photos to post in case other people need to see room details

The ADA requires a shower seat in roll in showers. It can be a solid bench that doesn’t fold, a solid seat that folds or a ‘mesh’ type material. Each type may be really good or not work well for different people.

This is a mesh seat at Old Key West, folded and unfolded. It is fairly firm with a small amount of give. The side ends have about one and 1/2 wide smooth metal piece.
Other resorts mesh seats are probably similar.
The folding solid seats I’ve seen are pretty similar, just have a solid seat in place of the sling part.

The mesh works better for my DD because of the little bit of give. She doesn’t transfer herself and doesn’t have good sitting balance on a hard surface. Some people don’t like the mesh because they don’t feel it can be cleaned - the same kinds of surfaces are used in hospitals though and cleaned and disinfected without issue. My suggestion is to put a towel on it if concerned about cleanliness or the texture of the surface.

Thanks Sue. That seat would not be a problem. In my head it was not so “solid”.

Does anyone know what brand/manufacturer makes the “mesh” shower chairs that’s being installed in the revamped rooms?
