The Unofficial Golf at Disney FAQ Thread

My DH would like to play when we are there. Do they put you with someone or do you play alone?

i played in 07 a round by myself until i got to number 11 on the magnolia. typically if it is busy you will be paired with someone. in this case it was around 3pm and they let me go off early and i was on my own. it was one of my best rounds of golf ever. so i'd say dont plan on him being on his own, depending on the time of year i'd expect to at least play with one or two other people.

I played in April of last year @ LBV. I had a tee time for 10AM, got to the course about 45 mins prior to my tee time so I could go to the range/putt a little bit etc etc. I got to the starters hut about 15 mins prior 10AM and was told I can wait to go with a group or I could go by myself. I went by myself and played 2 balls, I caught up to the group in front of me around hole 14.

You know I have only played the Disneys courses a hand full of times, but everytime I go (this Is genrealy between March and May) there does not seem to be that many people out?. Is this normal, does the courses ever get back up?. I have never completed my rounds over 4 hours, always got them In well under even with foursome

IMO you want to play with someone. It gives you a pace of play, weather Its fast Is another thing:confused3. I use to want to play by myself because I thought I would Imarse my self, and well ok I did:rotfl2:. But your like everyone else out there, just to have a good time, your biggest challange Is always your self. Actually playing by your self, specialy at disney you find your self rushing through trying to get to other things todo. But If your Hubby wants to play by him self get there early and make It a point to tell the starter, some times they can send you out ahead of everyone else. Have a great time.:goodvibes

I agree, when I dont play with someone else I find that I just end up goofing around and dont score nearly as well as usual. Its something about having someone there that brings out the competitive side, even if the two sides aren't evenly matched, that helps me to play better.

I've been paired with many people at Disney over the years, and have always enjoyed the experience..

I think this is what you mean but this is just on display. Its not a cart that you can ride in.

Where is this cart located? It's so cute. I would love to get a picture in it. Thanks!

It was at ospry ridge/eagle pines but since eagle pines closed I don't know if it is still there.

In December the Mickey cart was located next to the putting green at the Magnolia. As soon as you walked out the back entrance of the clubhouse you could see it!

Just FYI, it appears they have changed the DVC discount in 2010. It use to be broken down into 3 seasons for DVC golf members which were typically Jan to April ($79) May to Sept ($39) and Sept to Dec ($59). Now DIsney is giving DVC golf members 40% off tee-times after 10am and 25% off of tee-times before 10am. Seems like a MAJOR change exp when the courses aren't that busy in general. I know we went down last year the 1st week of May and played 4 times and paid $39 a piece. This year we are going down the same time and with the change in discount we are forced to pay $83 ($139 x 40% off). Seems like a major change and not sure why Disney decided to do this to DVC members. It cut our rounds down from 4 to 2 this coming May. :(

Thanks! I hope it's still there since that is where we will be going.

Bumping this up for more people to see!

I'm heading down to WDW a week from today and will be playing the Palm and Magnolia while I'm there. I'll report back after I play!

Have a great trip:cool1:,I plan on playing Magnoila this July can you let us know If they have the black tees up?

Last week I played oak trail and Magnolia in one day. Oak Trail in the morning and Magnolia in the late afternoon. I have a premium AP so I get to play oak trail for free, but the two guys playing with me got 30% off. We played twilight rates on Magnolia so no discount there.

I found that the greens at Oak Trail were in fair shape, they were doing a little work on them but considering it's the end of the golf season in florida I thought they were in good shape, better than a couple of courses we played up in St Augustine a couple days before.

Magnolia was in great shape, it was the first time I played there and I was impressed.

I did not see the Mickey golf cart by the club house and I was a little disappointed, but that was the worst of our problems, so I was not really upset.

So you sound like the person to ask since you play the Disney courses alot. I will be there In July(the frist week) and have never been there In that time of the year,we are usuall there duirng Maqrch and April. I know It tends to rain more but I found out If I play In the Morinings I tend to avoid the rain,Is that norm for summer to?. How about greens,do they air out the greens In July? and just the over all shape of the greens.
By the way my DS loves your southpark chacter and wanted to know where you found It?. Thanks

I e-mailed Shades of Green resort about current military rates. It's not as low as someone was talking about in the past, but here's the reply I got:

2010/2011 Military Golf Rates & Policies

Military personnel with a valid Military ID qualify for special golf rates at The Disney Courses, including the greens fees and cart. You may hold a tee time as far as 30 days in advance. Call Disney’s Master Starter at 407-939-4653 (daily at 7am – 9pm) for tee time reservations.

The four Disney courses are The Magnolia, The Palm, Osprey Ridge, by Ft. Wilderness or Lake Buena Vista, by Downtown Disney. The Magnolia & The Palm are right here at our resort! Just check in at the Pro Shop to the back of the uncovered parking lot in front of our property. The Pro’s play on these two courses this November in The Children’s Miracle Network Classic, November 11-14, 2010.

There is also a 9 hole walking course here called The Oak Trail. You can walk on to that course in low season or reserve a tee time and play for $20.00. Partial club rental sets for the 9 hole course are $20.00. (Two woods, 6 irons and a putter)

One Military ID may bring 3 guest players for the same rate, with his/her Military ID.

Club rentals are available for $55.00 for a full set of Titleist or Cobra.

Prices are as follows:

21 Jan 10 - 16 May, Mon-Fri, $83.40 per player after 10am, and $104.25 before 10am
21 Jan 10 - 16 May, Sat & Sun, $89.40 per player after 10am, and $111.75 before 10am

DH asked me to book him a round of golf this August... He's golfed all his life - 4 handicap. Should he try Palms or Magnolia?

He would probably enjoy both. I would also suggest Osprey Ridge, as its more difficult than both Palm and Magnolia in my opinion.

Well it seems I've been slacking on this thread a bit. Looks like Disney has brought back the Summer Price Slice! $59 for all 4 courses after 10am. I used to make a weekend trip with my brother every year for this, but they didn't have it last year for some reason. Glad to see its back!
