The Unofficial Golf at Disney FAQ Thread

You won't have any problems with the weather in July in the mornings!! The mornings are actually the best time to play in the summer. It gets really humid in Florida and a lot of times rains for about an hour everyday but this typically happens in the early afternoon.

I've been thinking about golfing 3-4 times during our trip. I will be playing once with my Dad at LBV. With my family we tend to get to the parks early and take the afternoons off to go to the pool. However, I'm not much of a pool person and would like to replace pool time with golf time!

I'm thinking of booking tee times for around 1pm that should allow me to finish by 5:00-5:30.

I guess my questions are: are the courses busy in the afternoons? What time would I have to leave a park in order to make my tee-time? What about my golf clubs? Do the transfer them to the golf courses or do I have to keep them in my room?

If it were me and I had a 1pm tee time, I would probably leave the parks no later than 12. Depends on how much you want to warm up. I usually like to hit a small bucket, so I would probably leave at 11:30. However your clubs could be a challenge logistically. I think the first round you'll have to go get them, but then they will store them for your second and I believe even transfer them to another Disney course for the next day.

Hit em straight:thumbsup2

Just my oppion here! but Morinings seem better. I only play In the morinings there now.Did It one year and It seem to just pour In the afternoon, plus It seems busyer In the afternoon to.But again thats just me you have to do whats best for you and your Family. But If you are playing more then once you will be able to just have Disney transport your clubs from one park to another. What time you leave well give your self 20 to 30 min travel time to the park,if you are driveing and add 15 min If you are waiting for a cab(its free with your paid golf,to and from from the course). Then from there just fegurie what you usually do before a round at your home course?. Have fun:cool1:

Thanks for your insight. I'm now leaning towards playing with my dad one day, playing early on two mornings (like 7AM). I think playing @ 7AM will give me the most time to be at the parks but still enjoy a few rounds of golf....We're DVC members so it won't be SUPER expensive to play golf while I'm down there....

My next question is: We're playing one day with my Uncle's and my father @ LBV. I'd like to play twice more....which two courses do you suggest? I've only played @ LBV.....

The palms and Magnoilia are my two must's and In that order.I will be playing LBV(because the last time I played there I played so bad:rotfl2: and want to try it again) and MaG becvause that was the frist course I played there(Birdy the frist hole:cool1: and play sup par golf the rest) and my best round there. But If I get enough of a Itch and I can still walk:rotfl2:I will play the Palms one afternoon.

I would probably hit Osprey Ridge and Magnolia. Osprey is in my opinion the most scenic of the courses, although also the most difficult, and Magnolia plays host to the PGA every year, so you cant really beat that. Palm is also a great course, but in my opinion is somewhat boring compared to the other two.

I've updated the original post with the current rates. Sorry to have drug my feet a bit...

I'm new to the golf thread, as I myself am not a golfer. But I have a couple of questions for my upcoming trip in March.

My fiance and I are getting married in Disney World in March and as part of our package we receive 2 APs. I noticed on the front page there was mention of a 30% discount for APs and up to 3 guests. However when I try booking on the website, the AP discount is not one of the discounts available to choose. Is there some catch to the AP discount that I'm missing. We don't have our APs yet - just vouchers - so I can't log onto the AP site and look at the details of specific discounts.

I don't plan to golf while we're in Disney buy my dad is itching to try all four 18-hole courses! Can I book the tee times with my AP rate, if I (or Df) don't plan to play with my dad? My fiance will be playing with my dad at one or two of the courses but not all four...but I'll be booking all tee times at the same time. I don't want to send my dad off to the course to get in trouble if Df or I am not there! :scared1: Do they check APs and/or room cards when checking in, if we've prepaid?

Any help you can provide would be great. My dad's already spending a bit on the wedding and travel, so I'm trying to find him a deal on the one thing he wants to do while he's there!

One last question... the golf annual membership...do you have to be a Florida resident? The $50 fee might be worth it over the course of 4-5 rounds, but we don't live in FL.

Thanks!!

More questions from a Disney-golf-newbie. I just found this thread as I'm researching for a future trip that my in-laws may be joining us on, and Grandpa will definitely tolerate the parks more if we work in a round a golf.

We'll be in WDW the week of Dec 12, 2010. That's the week before their peak Holiday weeks start. What are typical rates in mid-Dec? What are the golf crowds like? And the weather?

My family is staying at Shades of Green, but my FIL is staying offsite in a timeshare. First, does anyone know if the Resort-guest rate applies to SOG guests (most resort benefits do, but I've never checked on this particular one)? And if they do, can I buy a round for 2 at the resort-guest rate even though he's staying off-site? And would the free clubs apply?

I know these are pretty specific questions, and probably best to call Disney Golf or Shades of Green, but I've got time, and thought I'd try here first. Thanks for any opinions.

Great thread here, very interesting! :goodvibes

I've been to WDW many times but have never played golf there...not yet.

Question: For a 20-handicapper, which course do you think I should play first, and why? I would want to play 18, so Oak Trail is out.

Suggestions?

Wow you will love It.Shades of green resort Is right on the Magnoila and palms course, just walk out past the starbucks(that to Is the only one in Disney) and you can walk right to the golf shop. Rates are i belive at peak during the winter months?.also ask for the special two round discount(plus you can get to play a extra round of golf:cool1::cool1:)

Yeah, I love Shades of Green, but never played golf there before. And I'm not sure we'll get a chance for a second round. Maybe if we're really good.

But then, I'm not sure the discount is worth it. If I understand the current rate structure correctly two full-rate rounds with free clubs comes to a total of $278 (139*2). If I get the two-round discount I have to rent the clubs (I'm not bringing my own on the plane) for a total of $305 (195+55+55). But maybe I'm missing something.

This is of course assuming we qualify for the resort-guest rate and free clubs offer.

Im in the same boat as you and I have played them all. They are all very challenging in their own ways. I personaly like Lake Buena Vista the best not because of the difficulty but because it intertwines through both Saratoga Springs and Old Key West. I know that probably doesnt answer your question but just remember that the Palm and Magnolia are PGA courses

i'm also probably a 20 handicap and i've played them all except the palm which i will play in april. lake buena vista is my favorite, also because it winds thru the resorts. you will be fine to play any of the 4 with a 20 handicap. dont be intimidated by the others you may be paired with either. in other words, if they tee off at one color don't be afraid to use a tee closer. that was my biggest fear to get over was playing with others i dont know. my wife doesnt play and my little girl is only 7 and she plays, but not for $159 she doesnt! :rotfl:

Someone on another thread posted this excellent site:
http://www.wdwgolf.com/

There's a lot of helpful information, and I think answers to questions I've seen here, including a lot of info about rates and discounts.

Also some details about the relative difficulties of each course, as well as brief commentaries on each.

Lots of good infor in the FAQs. One FAQ page has some details about the rental clubs and indicates that my concern about the value of renting clubs with the 2-round discount is unfounded if your rounds are played in one day - the rental rate is good for a day of golf.

along the same lines with the 2 ound discount,I read( I think on the WDW golf official site?) that In July there discount applies, but on the WDWgolf site It says Its Jan through May?
can any one confirm or deny this?. I was planning on doing this along with a third round on our upcomeing trip In July?

As I recall last summer, there was this discount in June but it was a better discount. So I would think those rates are just not posted yet. My dh and ds golfed once at Osprey and paid $60 each. It was supposed to be $90, but one hole was underwater and they had just dressed the greens. They were thrilled! :thumbsup2

This is a great thread. We heard that the golf carts on Disney courses are 'very Disney'. Does anyone have pictures of them? Would like to see if and how they are special.

thanx

:thanks:

The carts are now Disney theme?.Now I did not play at Disney last year, but In 2008 they where pretty plaine, now they where nice dont get me wrong GPS and all the bells and whistel for a nice resort course, but they did not have anything Disney about them.Maybe they have change?,If so I want the Donald one,the angry Donald:rotfl2::rotfl:
