The Unofficial Golf at Disney FAQ Thread

Hi everyone. My fiance is hoping to get in a round on the Magnolia course when we visit Disney in September and I had a few questions. I'm not really a golfer myself so please forgive my ignorance on the matter!

First, does anyone know the earliest time you can book a lesson? He really wants to get one in before playing a round and he doesn't like starting out on the course any later than 8:30 or 9 if he can help it.

Second, do the provide balls for course play? I would hate to take up valuable luggage space with golf balls! I imagine balls are not included and you can purchse them at the pro shop to use, but are they priced outrageously or more in line with what a Golf Smith or some similar store would be selling?

Any information would be appreciated. I e-mailed Disney and didn't get much of an answer so I figured if anyone knew it would be the DIS!:thumbsup2

Welcome to my world Dinah! Getting an answer from Disney about Golf is about like pulling teeth!

Not sure on the lessons time, but I can tell you that golf balls for play are not provided. They do give you some free tees though:lmao: Last year I managed to show up to the course with no golf balls, well no new ones anyway, and I had to buy a sleeve at the pro shop. I believe a sleeve of Titleist NXT were $10...

Magnoila Is great course, getting a lesson that early might be Iffy, but you arrange that with the Instructer so there might be a chance. Make do without a extra pair of socks, and bring your owen golf balls. There usually 4 sleeves to a box so just take them out and pack the sleeves In and around the Inside of the suit case, you will save major$$. Have fun:goodvibes

Hey Guys....

I just returned last night from WDW and was able to play Oak Trail, Palm, Lake Buena Vista, and Magnolia. All the courses were in great shape. The greens were running an 11 on the stimp (if you know a little about golf that means they were like putting on ice....VERY fast). We had a great time and are sad to be home already. Now it is time to start planning out next trip this fall for Food & Wine and more golf!!! If anyone has questions let me know!!!

Thank you all so much for your help! I will make sure he packs a few sleeves. I would hate to pay a hugely inflated price for something we could just bring with us!

Simba, did you use your own clubs or rent?

We used our own clubs.....but we played with at least one person each day who did rent clubs.

The 2 rounds for $140 is a great deal!

No I didn't offhand....sorry!! I believe they were fairly new though. I know they all come with Scotty putters and Vokey wedges as well as a Driver, 3 wood, and hybrid. But I'm not sure of the exact models.

Prices are alway lowest during the summer months. Too hot for many golfers to play. They then go back up early in the fall, but those rates are still lower than the winter rates. The winter rates generally start around January 15, but it has varied from year to year. My husband and I have been playing golf at Disney for several years.

You cannot use Oak Trail during any Disney golf tournaments, as Oak Trail shares the parking lot and club house with Palm
and Magnolia, which is where the tournaments are held.

We have also run into a course being closed due to maintenance, such as reseeding.

We used to just walk onto Oak Trail without a tee time. Our past two trips (January & March), we needed tee times and there was a starter. That was a first for us, as we have played Oak Trail many times over the years. Has to do with the perk added to the PAP after Pleasure Island shut down.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but if you are playing at different courses during your trip, Disney will store and transport your clubs in time for your next round

Dallas, check your tee times and send me a PM, I may be able to join you on Thursday while you're there:thumbsup2

On the price slice, I'm still not seeing it available on the site. The 2 rounds for $140 is a different discount, although its still a good one. The Price Slice typically was for tee times after 10am, and the rates went down to $40-50. I'm not very hopeful that one will come back this year, after several years of it running..

We are booked for Magnolia on the 11th at 3pm and LBV on the 9th at 3:51pm if you are interested in those times. We are trying to get the price discount so we are playing late.

I have taken my own as well as rented from Disney. I seem to remember that looking around on the Disney site I was able to find out what kind of clubs the were. Wound up liking the Cobra driver I used so much that I came home and bought one. When I play a lot of times it's by myself and on a couple of occasions I got paired with nobody. We always go in the summer and I always book my tee time for the afternoon when a lot of people don't want to play. I live on the Texas Gulf Coast so the weather does not bother me because its the same at home. I usually wind up paying around $45 for green fee and carts. I do know that club renatla costs vary by what clubs you choose. If you play at 2:00 pm in the middle of July chances are you will not see many other players. The only thing you have to watch out for is Disney offers the locals a deal that for a fee of like $100 they can play all they want after five for the entire summer. Days I have played and either made the turn or finished around five the club house was stacked up with people just starting.

ant remember how to pm on here and i'm at work and have to do this quick. lol! so here are my times i have:

june 8 7:09am Lake Buena Vista
june 10 1pm Palm
june 11 6:51am Magnolia
june 12 11am Osprey Ridge
june 14 3pm Osprey Ridge

I dont know that i'll play all of those times, except the 11th for sure. that's our hang loose day so i'm keeping that one. i did confirm those prices with DW Golf. it is like pulling teeth and 5 different people i talked to had no idea what the price slice was until i demanded that they ask a supervisor or someone that had been there a while and finally found out. but i found these prices on the disney golf site, and they showed up only after i had chose my times, then it gave me cheaper prices than i thought i would have. anyway, anyone that is interested let me know. i'm the only one playing in my family unless my 7 year old tags to ride with me. i'm not paying for her to play but she may ride. i think she's $15 to ride for insurance reasons.

does anyone know if you can pay for golf with a disney reward dollar card?

You sure can!! We used our rewards dollars just last month to do the same thing.

Our only problem was that we only made it down to WDW with one reward card and hubby and I were often in two different places (him on the greens, me in the parks with the kids ) and we had quite a few rewards dollars to use. We ended up just charging everything to the room and then using the rewards card to pay the balance, it worked out great! Rule of thumb that I learned from a very helpful CM -- if you can charge it to your room, you can use your Dieney Rewards for it!

One more tip: I forgot to go down to the front desk the night before we left to take care of this and the express check-out ended up charging the balance to our credit card. When I went down the next morning it was taken care of without any issues ... the CM just credited our creditcard with the amount on our rewards card and then used the rewards. Did I just confuse you?!?!?

Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for the quick reply and no, I'm not confused...we will be bringing two reward cards as DH and I both have accounts but instead of having to worry about all the different cards, we just may charge everything to the room and then pay it off with the rewards cards.

He'll be playing at the Palm and I will have the kids either at the resort or the parks. He'll be doing what he loves and so will I :thumbsup2 Makes for an enjoyable trip for all:cool1:
