The Unofficial Chatterbox Thread! Everyone is Welcome!

I've been reading thru the I hate dialysis forum, but some threads are depressing to read.. the caregivers support is more of a vent in frustration than anything. Good for the person venting, not so good for a casual reader.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:
She's a modern spirit, using the latest technology!
Next you will get odd text messages on your phone. :thumbsup2

I don't do text. What's funny is my mother didn't like computers. She didn't really like that "internet thing". But she sure did love slot machines and video poker machines. Somehow I have a feeling if she had discovered the internet offshore gambling sites, it would have been a lot different.:rotfl2: Perhaps the big casino in the sky has closed for the evening and she has nothing better to do.:lmao:

And somehow you thought there were going to be happy thoughts & cheerful people on the 'I Hate Dialysis" forum??:lmao:

Surprisingly my mom has really taken to using the computer. She has done a lot of research on our family genealogy, uses messenger to chat with her grandsons, and emails me instead of phone calls (because she knows we have a busy schedule).

It's funny because switching to a DVD player was this huge event, I bought her DVDs not realizing she didn't have a player. Bought her one and it sat for a year before I came to visit again, my db and i worked together to fix it up for her.

Something kind of exciting happened on the Komen message board. Last week I posted a congrats & thank you to Nancy Brinker. She is the lady that started Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Susan was her sister that died of breast cancer in her 30's. Nancy is a very busy, influential woman and has never posted on the board, but apparently unbeknownst to us she does read it sometimes. Anyway, the message board administrator seen our thread and they sent her a copy. So she invited the Komen message board members to be her friends on FB.

Sheesh, now I guess I'm going to have to really clean up my act on FB!:rotfl2: Shall I invite her on the Hyena Thread?:lmao:

My mom wasn't really adverse to technology and she did have a computer. All I can say is she'd better not be hogging my bandwidth!:rotfl:

The byline is "We're not negative, we just hate dialysis" :thumbsup2
It was created by a guy that got tired of his posts being censored at corporate owned/ sponsored dialysis support websites. People can vent, swear and be totally honest with no fear of being kicked off, posts removed or scolded by staff.

That's cool! It's nice to see a "real person" behind the organization.

hmm, but then we would all have to play nice.. I don't know how. :rolleyes1
:rotfl:

I was crabbing at E's monthly visit, muttering about some things written in his care plan. He tells me, give it up already, I don't care what they write.

Yeah but I do! grrrr grrr grrrrr let me nip at their heels some more.

And then we fell into a fit of giggles, raising a few eyebrows and having his nurse look at us oddly.. setting us off into more laughing, :rotfl2:

The Komen message board used to be anything goes. But then they got a new program and an admin guy started posting. When the new program went online, everybody hated it and a lot of people left. It had a filter that was really sensitive. So we started getting creative. They eventually removed the filter and now we are back to using whatever language we want (and trust me some of it would make a sailor blush).

Moral of the story...don't mess with breast cancer ladies!:lmao: I kind of feel sorry for how much of a bad time we gave the poor administrator guy.:lmao:

I'm glad they changed it, I've looked at the support websites run by the big companies.. you can tell everyone has to tiptoe and keep to the "official" view. Sucky because it means less information is shared, limited choices. The more you know the better you can deal and fight for your own care. :thumbsup2

Nancy Brinker was also a US Ambassador to Hungary, Chief of Protocol of the US during the GW Bush admin, and Obama just gave her the Presidential Medal of Freedom (the highest honor our government can give to civilian). Right now she is involved in the World Health Organization as a goodwill ambassador for cancer control. YIKES! Do you suppose she'll be impressed with my cucumber growing or the fact that I just told Megan that I was going to drive up there and beat her with a pineapple?:lmao:

OMG! Everytime Dh & I are at a doctor or hospital we start laughing and we get stared at also.:lmao:

We kind of regulate ourselves on the Komen board. Every once in a while we get someone trying to sell us a cancer cure. We have a little fun with them, then we send them scurrying off with their tails tucked between their legs!:rotfl:

There was a lady on their one time that claimed she could put us into contact with our dearly departed friends and relatives for a nominal fee. We pointed out that she was on a cancer board and we were most likely going to die sooner rather then later, so why bother paying for something that we could get for free. It was hilarious!

I can't imagine what it would have like to go thru cancer treatment without Komenville. It was my lifeline to sanity.

I lack the ability .. or is that desire? .. to censor myself.

I've been hanging around my husband much much much too long.
I tell him "it's your fault, you made me this way." :snooty:

Kind of amazing how you change as you get older. I really find myself turning into my grandmother!:rotfl2: I really don't care what I say, what I wear or what anybody thinks about me. I do have to try and act halfway normal just for the sake of my teenage daughter. But boy after she leaves for college in another year, heck DS doesn't really care what I do. He'll just laugh along with me. I'll finally be able to walk down a store aisle, fart and then run away laughing.:rotfl2:

Hey, guess what....I've been having horrible hot flashes again. I finally gave up and started back on the Prozac tonight. I should be great fun to talk to by this weekend.:rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 Cool! Having mashed potatoes this week too? :lmao:

creepy too.. loving the comments and the link to about.com on a "how to" bake the cookies for your own shower..

http://pregnancy.about.com/od/babyshowerfood/ss/babyshowercook_8.htm

Want a cookie?

uhhhhhh, no thanks I'll pass on the happily decorated freaky fetus and preggy belly cookies.. it's the new way to encourage your friends to stay on their diet.

:lmao:

I prefer my fetus cookies with amniotic icing. (Now if the Tag Fairy doesn't use that one, well them I've decided that she doesn't really exist!).:rotfl:
