The Ultimate Stomach Bug @ Disney Thread

We were in WDW Sat Dec 19-Sun Dec 28, stayed one night at CR then 8 at SSR. It was my dh and I and our 4 young boys.

We have gotten stomach bugs TWICE on previous trips, where each of us caught it day by day. ugh. And another couple trips some of us got sick on the last day or the very next day after a trip. We have been there, done that!!

After reading all the posts on here last month about people getting sick, I was 100% convinced that we would get sick too, knowing our history and all... I hoped we'd make it through our first 3 days as those were our biggest park days, then I hoped we'd make it through Christmas day. After that, well I just knew we'd be sick by then. lol

Well, we did not get sick-at all!!!!! We went to all the parks, a few resorts, ate at buffets, did everything we wanted to do.

There were only two occasions where we heard about someone being sick. We never saw anything, we only overheard conversations about it.

If we didn't get sick, there is hope for everyone. lol

Ohhhh liznboys you are a God send. I am paranoid!!! I leave for Disney tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Not only is the Noro virus going around WDW...but chicken pox/shingles as well.

A family member had her face painted at Magic Kingdom recently and the next day she had shingles on her face in the same pattern as the face paint! Talk about pain! :scared:

Never let your kids do face painting at WDW, they don't properly sanitize the brushes!

What resorts are having the biggest outbreaks now? We are going back next week and staying at PORFQ. Thinking about changing to a deluxe resort this time to avoid the outbreak!

Had your family member never had chicken pox? That's the only time shingles is "contagious" and in that case the person who comes in contact with someone affected by shingles would develope chicken pox and not shingles.

I am so very sorry for all of you who have been ill on your trips!

We just got back also. I had seen the posts about this virus mid-week of our stay, so we started washing hands a bit more, and sad to say, not really chatting much on the buses with strangers, (who knows who is carrying the bug unknowingly). We stayed at OKW but we did ride buses, went to all the parks, ate at tons of resteraunts, water taxi at DD and BW, and even visited Saratoga to check it out. (I read the post upon returning from SS which then freaked me out!) I was on the bus on New Years Eve and the lady next to me was telling me that 2 of her party had been ill and out of commission for 2 days of their trip. (Needless to say, I tried not to breathe in the rest of our conversation.) That's when we decided to keep to ourselves on the bus. Anyway, none of the 5 of us caught anything...Thank goodness! We are home now, safe and sound, missing the Mouse!

Somebody earlier in this thread posted about getting an anti-microbial hand sanitizer. Would they please share the brand name and where to get it?

Thanks!

We use a hospital-grade brand that DH gets, but I like the Dial Antimicrobial soap also- we used that one a bunch during our Katrina cleanups. Office Depot carries it:

I hope this helps!

All that worrying I did jinxed me! Husband is in bed with only a fever, and chills, nothing else. Weird, now I know I'm doomed cuz we shared a drink right before he started to deteriorate:mad: Keep your fingers crossed for me, I'm really freaking out!!!

We just checked into AKV this evening and so far, have seen zero signs of illness. Our room was spotless (as always) and both CM and guests have appeared happy. I did use my Clorox Germicidal wipes with bleach all over the rooms, concentrating on places where fingers touch most and of course, the bathroom. I did the same on the plane. I got a few weird looks, but better weird looks then illness later.

So...so far so good! Here's hoping the rest of the week is just as smooth.

Guess I should've looked at the link first, LOL. The link was for liquid soap (to use with water), not for hand sanitizer.

So, I did a Google and found an anti-microbial, non-alcohol hand sanitizer that stays effective on your hands for up to four hours, even with repeated soap-and-water hand washings! It is definitely more expensive than your typical hand sanitizer (i.e. Purell), but sounds worth it since those other ones only kill what's on your hand at the moment (and they are anti-bacterial and can dry you out from the alcohol - this one has moisturizers). It is called Safe4Hours - www.Safe4Hours.com . You get 4 bottles of the 2 oz. size for $26 ($6.50/bottle). Four-hour protection at a place like Disney where you're constantly touching things billions of others (who may or may not have washed their hands after using the bathroom) have touched is worth the price, IMO.

Thanks for the update Iggipolka.... if you get a chance to check back in later, I would love to hear how the rest of your trip is going! Here's hoping you stay well!!!! :goodvibes

Based on your previous post, I'm guessing you guys just arrived? Hope whatever your husband is experiencing is over with fast! (AND you avoid it!) :goodvibes

Got here Sunday and Hubby started sickness Wednesday, and it is a stomach bug!!!!!!!! I drank from his drink right before he felt ill so I know I'm doomed, I'm soooo worried! We're supposed to fly home Saturday and I don't want to fly sick like that!
Ps......this is a guy who is NEVER sick!!!!!

I am in Disney now, arrived on Tues afternoon and Thursday night I started having the vomiting/runns. As if that was not bad enough, my 3 yr old son started throwing up about an hour after me. Needless to say, he had not had a stomach bug before and the vomiting scared him (and he has no clue how to use toilet or bucket) so he did this all over himself & the bed. I am feeling a bit better but I am still afraid to eat and upset my tummy again. He was still throwing up this morning so we are spending the day in our room and DH & DD are out enjoying the parks. I just pray DS & I get over it quick and DH & DD don't come down with it.

Oh, we are staying at the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge and Mousekeeping confirmed that alot of people are getting sick.

Oh man, not Norwalk again.....Purel Hand Sanitizer...I have some stuff I've gotten through my job, whatever you get, use it....often.

Get some immune system boosters in you. Vitamin C, sambuccol (or any brand of elderberry, this stuff is awesome) I don't like airborne and don't think it works. Wash everything and hope for the best!

As for the face paint, it could be an allergic reaction. My sister had that happen when she was little. My mom never let me get my face painted because of that. It looked like awful with blisters and stuff.

I am just getting over the New Jersey Stomach Bug
I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy, missed 2 days of work
Dh and I had gotten it one time while at The World
The only good thing I can say is, at least it usually just lasts around 24 hrs

I heard from my grandmother this morning that she heard on Fox News about this outbreak. Supposedly 6 states are having the same problem of a reoccuring virus and the CDC has gotten involved. Supposedly they may think what may be causing this is salmonella in the peanut butter.

Anyone else hear this? Perhaps this is a plausible reason? Thought everyone here should know.

We just got back (were in WDW 1/1-1/7/09). None of us got sick, except for a minor cold. We were not overly cautious with using hand sanitizer, wipes, etc. Just used basic hand washing precautions. I guess we were lucky!:)

I heard about this too. But at WDW, that stomach bug is not salmonella! My cousin is there with her family. First her 2yo got it, then her 9mo baby, then her 13yo DD, her and DH. Salmonella isn't contagious from person to person. There is a nasty virus going around and now I just read of another virus that is with upper respiratory problems. Bad cough, runny nose, etc...

We leave for WDW in less then 2 weeks. I plan on washing hands like crazy and really watching where my kids put their hands. I am armed with vitamins, antibacterial wipes, lysol, and clorox wipes to clean things in out room like door handles and the remote. It may or may not help. I will try anything because my DS(5) has medical issues and a virus with vomiting will land him in the hospital. Not my idea of a fun vacation for him!
