The Ultimate Stomach Bug @ Disney Thread

We stayed at Pop 1/24-2/2 and no one got so much as a cold. I have an 8 and a 6-yr-old who touch every handrail and then put their hands in their mouth. My brother's family with three kids 18 month- 4.5 years escaped illness as did our parents and our other brother.

In over 25 trips to WDW, I have never gotten sick from there, nor has anyone I have travelled there with. Could be luck, I don't know.

If you are bringing hand sanitizer with you, don't bring the pump bottles! I saw a woman on the bus going to MK reach into her bag to get something out, and her pump bottle had "sanitized" everything in the bag. What a mess - not to mention a good waste of hand sanitizer!

I usually get the individually wrapped Wet Ones towelettes. No mess, no fuss, and I feel like I've actually washed my hands when I'm finished.

Just to note, I was at YC in December when the stomach bug was rampant, and did not get sick. I was at BWV in January, and did not get sick. I didn't even see anyone getting sick. So it is possible to go to Disney and stay healthy. Pixie dust to everyone!

One thing that is not mentioned in any of these stomach bug posts is something that is just as important as hand washing: hydration.

I live in Arizona now, from Wisconsin originally, and keeping yourself hydrated will give your immune system a great chance of not getting sick...people tend to drink their weight in soda..which is NOT a way to stay hydrated! And try to have your kids not touch their faces, or put their fingers in their mouths.

My wife is a kindergarten teacher and I work in I.T. touching germy keyboards daily..and have been norwalk/noro virus free for 6 years now.

Enjoy your trip!

I don't want to be a downer, but will share that my entire family (2 adults, 2 children) got a stomach virus while we were at WDW Jan 31-Feb 9. First one was at the clinic, two days later the other child, the next day dh and I joined the children with it and we spent three days in our hotel room! Upon our return home DS had to be hospitalized. We were vigiliant about hand santizer and hand washing and cleaning our room.

We did witness 6 children vomitting (from a distance) while we were there...

For the poster who mentioned diabetes and concerns about getting ill, PLEASE be sure that you go to the Children's Hospital in Orlando and NOT the clinic that Disney recommends.

I'll second the notion for hydration and will add my own recommendation for plenty of rest. Oh, and discourage kissing the characters...

My hubby & I was just there February 14-21 & we did not see anything or hear anything about this. I did know about it b/c I had read this thread! SO I took hand sanitizer and wipes as well and wiped off knobs in the room and light switches and the remote.

We refilled our mugs every night at the pepper market. We stayed at CSR by the way. But the best way to keep germs down is just wash your hands. Wash them after the bathroom..before you eat...dont touch your face.

But Im glad we didnt catch this. It would be a bummer to spend that kind of money and get sick and have to stay in the room for a few days.

Altho, I do have a cold now but thats better than whats going around down there.

Im ready for Spring!!

The weather was nice but I was expecting it to be a lil bit better than it was. The nights were fairly chilly and the wind was crazy like 2 nights and that made it even chillier. But the days were decent. I can think of 2-3 days where it was 80!! & that is just awesome compared to 30s as the high where I live. Urgh!

So to all whos going to Orlando soon....Have Fun & Be Safe!!
