Chapter IX: In Which Disney Is Starting to Consume My Brain
"I'm still a geek on the inside, that's the important thing." -- Al Yankovic
One more week and we'll be sipping fruit punch out of collectible Tinkerbell cups along side the ASMu pool. It's getting to the point where it's becoming difficult to concentrate on anything that isn't Disney. It's not an issue on the weekends so far, but work, hoo boy. I'm subconsciously doing commercials for Disney...I kinda zone out while reading the lines for some business' spot, do the playback, "What? Bob's Bait Shop is not running a special on Jungle Cruise rides!" Thankfully, only five more work days will we go. Whoo-hoo!
Disney on Ice is coming to our area about two weeks after we get back from our trip, and I just got myself some comp tix for it (ah, the perks of working at a radio station!). So the magic will stick around for a little while longer after we leave the parks. I think we'll keep that a secret from DD, and surprise her with it. Maybe make a card for Mickey to sign inviting her to come see them again....
The paperwork for our upgraded
DDP also came yesterday...kind of surprised how quick that happened, didn't think we'd see anything before we left about it. After I got it, I did the online check in for the ASMu, no problems there, although I did notice that it showed our ME times set for midnight the days of our arrival and departure. I'm wondering if they got reset when I upgraded? I better call on Monday just to verify....
DD's autograph book is turning out nicely. It's like a flip book or a chap book, very sturdy, and has extra pages for characters I wasn't sure if we'd run into (like Launchpad McQuack, etc). I just have to decorate the cover and we're good to go!
We've been gearing up for the trip by watching classic Disney movies (as I'm sure most people do). Last night we watched Alice in Wonderland (the animated version, not the Tim Burton mess). I gotta say, 101 Dalmatians has long been my favorite classic Disney movie, but Alice just might be a close second if not tied for 1st now....
I broke down and preordered the Photopass CD. My brother's going in on it with me, so that will be nice. The main thing was I wanted a lot of pictures with the three of us in and I didn't want to have to continuously show other people how my camera worked.
DW will be starting a new job the day after we return from Disney, so looks like we'll have something else to celebrate while we're down there. Her two week's notice included the vacation, and I don't think her current bosses were happy about that, so they didn't give her many hours next week. I told her she can use the extra free time getting ready for the trip. She just laughed at me and said, "Who says I won't be done getting ready this weekend?!"
So in honor of this week, I have the seven things I'm most anticipating on our trip....
7) Shopping at the Star Wars shop in DHS - I'm a known Star Wars fanatic (I was required to let the neighbors know when I moved into the neighborhood) and I've got a lot of money saved up for this trip. Put two and two together. I'm hoping they still have the SW/Disney mash-ups, I would kill for a Darth Goofy. They are starting the SW Vinylmation this week, so I may grab a few of them as well. I really hope that Darth Vader is still doing meet and greets....
6) It's a Small World - Going on the ride will be bittersweet for sure, but also I think very cathartic.
5) Killimanjaro Safaris - It was our favorite Disney ride last trip (I think we went on it 6 or 7 times during the course of the week), just looking forward to doing it again.
4) The Animation Class at DHS - The last time we went, they had just shut down the studios there, and all that was going on was a brief presentation. As I have mentioned earlier, I am a bit of an artist, so taking the class is a must do for me. I may send DW with DD over to Playhouse Disney while I do it, not sure if DD would sit still for the class....
3) Taking DD on her 1st Disney Ride - I don't care if it's Nemo, Figment, the Maelstrom, or whatever, that's a moment I don't want to miss.
2) Wishes and the Nighttime Parade - I've been to WDW 3 times, and I've never gotten to experience any of the night time shows due to timing or weather conditions. I'm really hoping that will change this trip. Two days planned at MK, it's bound to, right?
1) Akershus Breakfast - It was one of my favorite moments of DW and my honeymoon trip, and very likely to be DD's first character interaction. I get goosebumps and moist eyes just thinking about it.
And it sounds like the rest of the household is waking up, so it's time for me to cut myself off. Until next time....
