The Turkeys Take on the World - A Trip Thingie

As far as the refillable mugs - we didn't use ours that much. I think it was the fact that they take up quite a bit of space, so we didn't carry them with us often. And we were not right next to the food court, so getting a refill entailed a small hike to the food court area, after going to the room to get the mugs. (We had the mugs at Port Orleans - Riverside.)

See, we used the heck out of our mugs when we were at the ASMusic in 04, course then we didn't have the dining plan, so we were paying OOP for everything, and we more than paid for those mugs by the 3rd day. Morning "coffee" and a refill before hitting the parks, beverage with evening meals, and a hot chocolate before hitting the sack. Of course, we were in Calypso, so we were just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the food court to get easy refills.

Are you gonna do the Small World thing on the Friday we're there? I'd like to be there for that, and I'm sure DW would, as well.

Yeah, we can do it then, no prob.

Chapter VIII.V: In Which We Have an Update That's Not Really an Update

"The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook."
-- Julia Child

So I upgraded the DDP this morning. No real issue, though they did try to get me to upgrade to Peak Rates. Yeah, no, had to lay down the law there. But, it was taken care of and I have added the following ADRs to the itinerary:

Dinner at Biergarten joins the Breakfast at the Akershus on Epcot day. Between the two, we shouldn't need lunch that day, heheh.

DW really wanted to do Tony's on MK day, so I booked us lunch there. Think I will add a Anniversary celebration to it, as our 10th anniversary will only be about a month after our trip.

DW's also a big fan of the Sci Fi Diner, so we have dinner there on DHS day, and we will return to DHS the next day after spending the day at AK for Fantasmic and dinner at the 50's Cafe.

Breakfast at the Crystal Palace and Dinner at the 1900 remain the same.

All in all, not a bad day's work.

You added some good ones!

I made some adjustments to my ADRs last night also. Now that mom is going (it's official now), I HAD to add Biergarten. (And just reading about it again on another TR made me crave it that much more again - so I used DM as my excuse.)

Hey man, whatever it takes. lol That's great that your mom can go with you's. We've only done the Akershus and Sci Fi before, so I'm looking forward to the meals. Don't tell DW, but I could have gone without the Sci-Fi, but 10 days before the trip doesn't leave you with many choices....

I just had a thought. We're gonna be quite a sight, 1 happy little girl and 4 bawling adults exiting It's a Small World....

Yeah that will be odd. And I should definitely take DW on IaSM before that so her first impression isn't such and emotional one.

Chapter IX: In Which Disney Is Starting to Consume My Brain

"I'm still a geek on the inside, that's the important thing." -- Al Yankovic

One more week and we'll be sipping fruit punch out of collectible Tinkerbell cups along side the ASMu pool. It's getting to the point where it's becoming difficult to concentrate on anything that isn't Disney. It's not an issue on the weekends so far, but work, hoo boy. I'm subconsciously doing commercials for Disney...I kinda zone out while reading the lines for some business' spot, do the playback, "What? Bob's Bait Shop is not running a special on Jungle Cruise rides!" Thankfully, only five more work days will we go. Whoo-hoo!

Disney on Ice is coming to our area about two weeks after we get back from our trip, and I just got myself some comp tix for it (ah, the perks of working at a radio station!). So the magic will stick around for a little while longer after we leave the parks. I think we'll keep that a secret from DD, and surprise her with it. Maybe make a card for Mickey to sign inviting her to come see them again....

The paperwork for our upgraded DDP also came yesterday...kind of surprised how quick that happened, didn't think we'd see anything before we left about it. After I got it, I did the online check in for the ASMu, no problems there, although I did notice that it showed our ME times set for midnight the days of our arrival and departure. I'm wondering if they got reset when I upgraded? I better call on Monday just to verify....

DD's autograph book is turning out nicely. It's like a flip book or a chap book, very sturdy, and has extra pages for characters I wasn't sure if we'd run into (like Launchpad McQuack, etc). I just have to decorate the cover and we're good to go!

We've been gearing up for the trip by watching classic Disney movies (as I'm sure most people do). Last night we watched Alice in Wonderland (the animated version, not the Tim Burton mess). I gotta say, 101 Dalmatians has long been my favorite classic Disney movie, but Alice just might be a close second if not tied for 1st now....

I broke down and preordered the Photopass CD. My brother's going in on it with me, so that will be nice. The main thing was I wanted a lot of pictures with the three of us in and I didn't want to have to continuously show other people how my camera worked.

DW will be starting a new job the day after we return from Disney, so looks like we'll have something else to celebrate while we're down there. Her two week's notice included the vacation, and I don't think her current bosses were happy about that, so they didn't give her many hours next week. I told her she can use the extra free time getting ready for the trip. She just laughed at me and said, "Who says I won't be done getting ready this weekend?!"

So in honor of this week, I have the seven things I'm most anticipating on our trip....

7) Shopping at the Star Wars shop in DHS - I'm a known Star Wars fanatic (I was required to let the neighbors know when I moved into the neighborhood) and I've got a lot of money saved up for this trip. Put two and two together. I'm hoping they still have the SW/Disney mash-ups, I would kill for a Darth Goofy. They are starting the SW Vinylmation this week, so I may grab a few of them as well. I really hope that Darth Vader is still doing meet and greets....

6) It's a Small World - Going on the ride will be bittersweet for sure, but also I think very cathartic.

5) Killimanjaro Safaris - It was our favorite Disney ride last trip (I think we went on it 6 or 7 times during the course of the week), just looking forward to doing it again.

4) The Animation Class at DHS - The last time we went, they had just shut down the studios there, and all that was going on was a brief presentation. As I have mentioned earlier, I am a bit of an artist, so taking the class is a must do for me. I may send DW with DD over to Playhouse Disney while I do it, not sure if DD would sit still for the class....

3) Taking DD on her 1st Disney Ride - I don't care if it's Nemo, Figment, the Maelstrom, or whatever, that's a moment I don't want to miss.

2) Wishes and the Nighttime Parade - I've been to WDW 3 times, and I've never gotten to experience any of the night time shows due to timing or weather conditions. I'm really hoping that will change this trip. Two days planned at MK, it's bound to, right? :guilty:

1) Akershus Breakfast - It was one of my favorite moments of DW and my honeymoon trip, and very likely to be DD's first character interaction. I get goosebumps and moist eyes just thinking about it.

And it sounds like the rest of the household is waking up, so it's time for me to cut myself off. Until next time....

Let us know how it goes at IASW (leaving the momento). I'm curious if they will allow that. I hope they do, I've always said to my DH and friends, when I'm gone take something of me (momentos or what-not) to my happy place. Now I'm getting teary eyed.

On a happy note.....5 working days til Disney!!!!!!:banana::banana:

We loved Akershus breakfast on our last trip. It's like CRT without the added cost. :)

I also love the animation class, and so does DS. Both times we have done it, we had Mickey Mouse (a 3/4 perspective and the Sorcerer Hat Mickey.) I love Mickey and all, but I hope this next time we get something different.

The first ride for DD - Nemo would be a great option.

Speaking of Star Wars stuff - we picked up a SW Mr Potato Head (Spuda Fett) on our last trip. I know its not Disney/Star Wars, but the Mr Potato Head/SW mashups are cool.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique is my daughter's favorite thing - it is awesome for great memories with pictures.

Will do!

We looked at the BBB, but couldn't justify the cost on this trip. Besides, DD has a real hard time sitting in a stylist's chair and letting people mess with her hair....

Chapter IX.V: In Which I Bend the Rules of Roman Numerals to Ensure Chapter X Will Be the First Entry of the Actual Trip Report

"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." -- Carl Sagan

So yeah, just a couple more days! My brother and his wife should be leaving soon (if they haven't already) on their way to the U.S., with a brief stop by us before continuing to Disney (did I mention you can follow his trip report here?: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2571882). We'll be following them the next day. My fellow DJs are giving me a hard time. They just pointed out I was leaving them in the lurch by being shorthanded at the end of the month and with 4 nights of local sports to cover. They're telling me I need to take a remote kit with me and do my shows from the parks. I told them I'd have to be Goofy to want to do that, and that job was already taken down there. Plus, no WiFi in the parks. Shucks. (I didn't tell them about the radio studio in DHS...shhhh!)

Weather.com's extended 10 day forecast is giving me a head ache. I know I really shouldn't depend on any weather info more than 3 days out, but it's hard not to look...and be concerned when it shows snow on the day we leave and thunderstorms during our stay... ugh.

I went to the TA today to get this Magical Express thing straightened out. They assured me it will be taken care of. One less thing off my list. And even if they don't fix it, they'll still take us with our passes, right?

I'm still making changes to my ADRs. I gave up my 9:35am ressie at the Akershus for one on the same day at 8:15am. PRE-ROPE DROP BABY! Of course, to get there for it in time, I imagine we'd have to leave the resort by 7:30 at the latest, which means at least a 6:30am wake up time...which is 5:30am back home...I thought vacations were for relaxing? :sad2:

We measured DD last night. In shoes, she's only 39.5". That means no Big Mountain and no Spidey and no Soarin' for her (good thing Star Tours is undergoing the refurb or I'd be heartbroken). On the plus side, she's still gung ho about going on the Haunted Mansion, so we have that going for us.... We watched the video tape of DW and I's last trip. DD was fascinated by the parades. Can't wait until she sees them in person!

DW just called, DD has a cold. Of course. Now to start a blitzkrieg of warm baths, fluids, warm jammies, and makeshift humidifying in her room before we leave in hopes she gets better before we go.... *fingers crossed*

This will likely be my last entry before the trip, but if not, I'm more than willing to bend the rules of roman numeralling further.

Do the remote... then they pay for your trip! :rotfl:

Ha! That would be something...maybe I'll bring that up at the staff meeting tomorrow.... :lmao:

TL

Yeah, tell them it would be Radio Gold! I imagine it would actually make for soem good segments, if they hyped it up leading into the week. :goodvibes

Yeah, they pretty much laughed me out of the room. Don't think the stations are going to be paying for my theme park obsession any time soon....

Too bad. It was worth the shot, though. :thumbsup2

Did you just play it off like you were just joking anyway? :lmao:

I doubt they could tell between the tears of laughter.

And with that, I bid adieu for a week. Escaping below zero temps tomorrow for warmer climes. It's a hard life.

I think you start a new Trip Report. I would just put a link to the new report here for others to play along.
