The Truth About Schoolbread

Okay, I've heard two different opinions about school bread. Some say it is like a soft doughnut with custard inside and on top w/ coconut. Others say it is more like bread with whipped butter inside and out w/ coconut. Which is it? Opinions?

Thanks.

Schoolbread (also seen it as Skoolbread) is my ALL TIME favorite dessert. I would offer a third hybrid explanation. It is sweet like a donut but I would not call it soft. Not as hard as a roll, but definitely not soft. The fill is not a whipped butter, but not really a custard either. Its more like a pudding. Its topped with icing and coconut. I can't walk past Norway without getting one.

I would describe it as more like a donut with custard, but the bread isn't as sweet as a donut. The cream and the frosting on the outside (beneath the coconut) were very sweet, though. It was good, and I'd definitely give it a try! :thumbsup2

This is one treat that I am most looking forward to! I am the only one in my family that likes coconut.

It's soft and roll-like. It's not a sweetened dough mix. The filling is similar to a boston creme filled donut and it's topped with frosting (like a donut) and coconut. It wasn't my cup of tea, but try it for yourself. Im not a big fan of boston creme filling.

The bread isn't sweetened but what's inside is kind of like pudding.

I liked it OK but it's too big for me to eat one so I don't order it much. Getting bloated on bread isn't fun.

but I really liked it. So I don't think I'd call it a donut, exactly. The bread part didn't seem as sickening sweet or as greasy as a donut. The filling was sort of like fluffy pudding.

Is there a way to eat it without the coconut??

This is how I would describe it

An unsweetened roll filled with light and cream semi sweetened yellow cream covered in white icing and fresh coconut

Yes, but you won't get any icing. The coconut is stuck to the icing on top of the bread. You can just pull off the top if you don't want it, but the whole thing won't be as sweet.

Ok cool..I want to try the custard anyway.

It's like a roll with vanilla pudding inside and coconut on top. It's sweet, but not overly sweet.

Where exactly can you find the schoolbread? I've read before...but I don't remember. TIA.
