I should have posted this months ago right after our trip -- but I wasn't aware of this BB until this week.

Back in January I took my two nieces to POR for a long weekend (MLK) and we booked 4 days/3 nights. We had a nice early flight from CT (6am) and were in the Magic Kingdom by 11:30am.

After a great day and wonderful night we went to bed. Around 3 am my 12 year old niece woke me up to tell me she didn't feel good. Poor kid got a nasty stomach bug and ended up heaving all night long and most of the next day.

Well, Disney was amazing throwout the experience -- when I went down to the gift shop in POR to see if I could get her something like pepto to calm her stomach, the CM started asking who was sick and what was wrong, she said to wait and came back 2 minutes later with some bottles of room temperature ginger ale as she thought it might help. My sister is an RN and when I called her to inform her of the problems she suggested keeping fluids through her and let it run its course and to give her bland soft food if she felt up to it. Plain white rice, clear broth, that kind of thing.

So, I went down to the front desk and found the concierge and asked if there was a nearby grocery store where I could get these things. She picked up the phone, and started telling, not asking, what I needed. She then walked me to the food court and introduced me to the food and beverage manager who, since all of their stuff was spicey cajun, had called his counterparts and was having plain boiled rice and two kinds of clear broth sent over -- beef and chicken. They took my number so they could call me when it came over but instead, they delivered it right to the room and told me they had more stored for us in the food court and to just buzz them and heat it up when she wanted it.

I told them to please charge it all to the room and the response was "sir, your little girl is sick and Disney would never charge her for something like this."

That is one of the many reasons why I will ALWAYS stay on property.

Love that! And glad they helped your niece feel better! I hope she enjoyed some of the trip.

I can't imagine the volume of these magic moments that Disney must provide. It's amazing.

I have a little tear in my eye and my heart just swelled.

I love Disney- for stories just like this. Awesome. Thanks for sharing!

So glad that Disney and the CM's went out of their way to help your niece. Just another reason why I love Disney! :)

Hope she was able to enjoy some of her trip.

Thanks everyone - although she missed Saturday and Saturday night, Sunday morning she was up and ready breakfast at Cindy's, although she didn't eat the really bad for her breakfast, then the Tri Circle D Ranch for a horseback ride, over to Animal Kingdom for The Fesitval of The Lion King and Killamjaro Safari, and thanks to EMH back to MK for rides and her traditional purchase of a crystal Disney Princess. Back to our room at 11:30pm and sound asleep 30 seconds later.

Hit Epcot and DHS on Monday and flew home Monday night. She might have lost 36 hours or so, but thanks to Disney Magic and her older sister helping, she got through it all and saw everything she wanted to...until she comes with me to GF in 60 days!

Thanks,

Tom

Thank you for sharing that GREAT story. It is refreshing to hear of employees going ouy of their way to provide customer service. I can't understand why more companies can't figure out that if you treat customers well they will be customers for life.

That's the Disney I remember!!!! It's wonderful to know that the "magic" is still there!!!!!

Awwww what a great story. Gotta love Disney. :thumbsup2

Your story was so wonderful! I've got tears in my eyes just reading this ! If anyone ever wonders "is the magic still in Disney", need only to read this story to know that the magic is alive and well. Thank you for sharing!

How wonderful that they took control so you could just concentrate on your neice. I hope the rest of your trip was wonderful !!! :goodvibes

Gotta love Disney! I had a similar experience last year at Pop when my mother came down with a nasty bug on our last night. In the morning, I could tell by looking at her that even if I could get her packed and to the airport, there was no way they were going to let her on a plane. I went down to the lobby to see if we could add another night. They were great and even assisted me in getting our flights changed.
Since she was up all night sick, she basically just wanted to sleep all day in a dark room. I stocked up the room with water, bland foods from the food court and headed to DTD to try and enjoy my added vacation day. Knowing that DTD would be easier to get back to the resort if she needed me. Disney called to check on my mother every couple hours asking if she needed anything at all. They didn't know that she was alone in the room (which is what she wanted), they just knew they had a sick guest and wanted to make sure she had anything she needed. I really don't know of any other hotels that take care of their guests like that. I'm sure there are some but, Disney knows how to do it best.

What a great story....I'm glad they showered you with magic :).

What a great story! It doesn't surprise me in many ways since our experiences with POR cm's has always been so positive.

Glad she felt well enough to enjoy the latter part of her vacation!

Unfortunately, AKL are not as accomidating if someone is sick. My ds woke up on our last day and was really vomiting alot. I called down to the front desk because he was so sick that he wasn't even able to walk and we had to check out. I told them how sick he was and they said, "your room is already reserved to someone else", if you want to move to another room, it will be $350/ for the night. We were staying in a standard room and really didn't want to pay that much money for the night. I was a little upset that didn't even offer for us to have a late check out or anything but at that point we packed up and I carried him towel and all through the lobby, with everyone staring at us. We checked into a marriott and let him get better the next few days. Fortunately, we drove so didn't have to worry about changing flights. For the most part, we find disney accommadating but this time they weren't.
