The TR that shouldn't have happened - June 2012 - TR and Decision Complete!

Deena so far your trip has been quite roller coaster ride, I hope once you get settled into ASMO you can finally relax.

I know what you mean about offsite....1st trip for us was. Never again...EVER!!! Glad you made it to the promised land!!!:goodvibes

I got the Hebegebees just reading about your room and don' t blame you for leaving. Yes ! for the CC refund! :yay:

Lol! It all happened so quickly... after I pulled out, I wanted to go back and ask if I could take pictures :rotfl2:. I totally forgot!!

I think it was very courageous to even try an offsite hotel!! We did once in 1992, when traveling with friends who had booked a pkg with a TA - one of those basic off site kind of pkgs....oh.my.gosh!! Roaches crawling on the walls!!!

(we've stayed at the Dophin and waaay back when DTD Disney resorts had Disney bus service and it was Disney Village we tried a couple of those...only 2 Disney resorts back in the dark ages!:rotfl:)

I remember the hotels my stepmom used to book when I was little :headache: I'm an onsite girl.

Oh my gosh...I just happened upon this TR!!!

This is quite the "cliffhanger", indeed. I love the way you convey the feeling of safety when you finally get in sight of Disney property!

I assumed I would have that feeling at a resort style place. I can't explain the sigh of relief when I saw the purple signs!!

Well .... even if you end up not liking All Stars at least you'll be safe! :thumbsup2

I know!! I promised myself that I wouldn't let it distract me!!

Maybe, but... will ASMu be safe from Deena? The poor girl's been through a flight with a gassy girl with the jimmy legs, a brief stay at the Bates Dunes Motel and she thinks she's lost in Orlando and somehow might not be able to find WDW in all that Orange County mess. 'Watch out ASMu - Deena's in the house and she's had a really bad day!' CHERRY COKE IN A REFILLABLE MUG, STAT!

Lol.... Some people like a glass of wine at the end of the day... I prefer a nice cherry coke :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: You pretty much nailed it, lol!!

I know, right!

I have to say I am pretty entertained by your not Disney trip report. :rotfl2: See what happens when you venture outside of the Disney bubble. :sad2: I spent one night outside of the bubble this June and that was enough. I couldn't wait to get back in!

Very cool that you are looking to move to Orlando. Curious to see how that all plays out.

I'm curious too. I'm off work on Monday and thats when decisions are being made--I'm nervous!!

Woot woot! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

:yay:

I know how frustrating things can get. You handled it well. I'm sure you got a nice clean room once you got to Disney. Hopefully in the section you wanted too.

We'll see!!!

Deena so far your trip has been quite roller coaster ride, I hope once you get settled into ASMO you can finally relax.

Me too!!

Count me in!!

Hi

I know what you mean about offsite....1st trip for us was. Never again...EVER!!! Glad you made it to the promised land!!!:goodvibes

You get what you pay for :wizard: You gotta dish it for the Disney magic!

So I stroll into the main building, and make my way to the check in line. No wait--I walked up to the CM with my ID in hand. I was still a bundle of nerves, and she could see I had been crying. I told her that I booked it on the phone on the way over, and I asked if I had booked standard or preferred. She let me know I booked a standard room, and I politely asked if there was a King room in the Mighty Ducks section. I really wanted to spread out and relax. She said no problem!! She said it was right by parking, on the 3rd floor where I wouldn't hear anyone above me, King room, and an extremely close walk to the ASMusic bus stop.

I then remembered I would be booking a continued reservation the next day and asked if that room would be available for the following 3 nights. She said yes, but be sure I book ASAP and call the front desk with the reservation number. Okay! No problem!! I smiled as I got my room key--it just felt right. Although I had booked value resorts in the past, I had never gone through with the reservation and had always upgraded it. It was happening now, and I couldn't be happier.

I wanted to check out the shop and the food court, but I was cutting it close. I had a reservation for Fulton's at 7:45. I took my packet, got in my car, and drove around to Mighty Ducks Building 3. I parked pretty close, got my suitcase out, took the GPS bag with me, and made it up to the room. Although it was closer to the stairs, I took the elevator since I had the big bag. I made it to room 3915.

What was supposed to be a non-Disney trip... was now a Disney trip and would need to be reported. Let's bust that brand new camera out!

So this is a value room. Did I love it?? Was I happy?? YESSSSS!!!! A million times yessssss!!! :yay:

I was just as happy doing the:

All Star Movies Mumba :woohoo: as I was previous doing the Castle Dance :dance3: and the Storm-a-long Stomp :dancer:

I was totally at ease and started to do the essentials. I plugged in my phone. I got the GPS out of the bag and realized... hey dummy... it's a car charger. I felt like an idiot, but immediately excused myself after the day I had. I unpacked a few items, changed, started to calm down... then I thought. Oh boy, I have to tell DH. The deal was--I wasn't staying on property, and I got to buy an iPad since I saved money. He knows me all too well, but I still was wondering how he would take it. He worked, then played 3 games of softball, so I knew I had some time before we had to discuss.

I figured... why drive when you have bus service available!?! So I walked over to the Music bus stop, which ironically was much much much closer than the Movies bus stop. It was clear that DD was the place to be. I didn't make it on the first bus, but I did make it on the second. It was a tight fit. I didn't agree with them sharing all 3 resorts on this bus at dinner time... but I was on, and no matter how super close we were packed in, I still was optimistic.

.....and I feel my phone ringing. It was DH. I let it go. He calls back again. He must be calling in between games, what if something happened? I wrangle my phone out apologizing to the chick that I minorly elbowed...

Hello!?

Him: Where are you?
Me: The bus--sorry it's loud
Him: The bus???? What bus???
Me: The bus to Downtown Disney, I told you I'm eating at Fulton's tonight.
(totally playing it off... hoping to get it past him)
Him: Why are you on the bus? Where did you go first?
(dang. he's quick)
Me: Well... I'm staying at All Star Movies, that other place didn't work out.
Him: Why? You're staying value? Was it that bad?
Me: Yes. It was gross-nasty (a term I use often) and I had to get out of there. Movies is actually great!! Remember... they just had a refurb.
Him: You're in a Mighty Ducks room aren't you?
Me: Yes sir...
Him: I knew it.
Me: Are you mad? Trust me--if a non-refundable place gave me my money back...they know something is wrong.
Him: No, just remember what you are there for. Glad you like it.
Me: Okay... It's pretty loud... I'll talk to you later... I'm going to get crabs. :rotfl:
Him: ...and pins, and vinylmations, and Basin.
Me: Oh wait! I need a favor, I almost forgot. Can you call me when you get home??
Him: Yeah--game's starting--talk to you later.
Me: Okay bye.

Phew, he wasn't mad! I made it to the Marketplace and jumped off. I took a brisk walk to Fulton's as I was cutting it close. I checked in and the chick couldn't find me. Like a ninja--I pulled it up on my phone and showed her. She said it would be about 10 minutes. Okay.

So I walked around the lobby and I was called a few minutes later. I was in the same Constellation room as I was last month. I waited a bit for a server to come, but someone had brought me water shortly after I sat down.

IMG_3424.jpg

This was my view.

Finally my server came. He had a thick accent and I think his name started with an I. He was way more interested to know why I was dining alone, than what I wanted to eat and drink. I briefly explained, and advised I wanted an Iced Tea. He asked if I was ready to order, and I had asked if they still had the Canadian Lobster Tail special that I had 7 weeks prior. He acted like I was crazy and that this was the menu, and that's what they have. He said that the Lobster/SnowCrab on the menu would be just like what I described--so I said okay and he took my menu.

And so I waited with my water. I was excited because this was one of our favorite meals last month. I was desperate to have it again!

About 15 minutes later, on one tray came Iced Tea (no sweetner was brought or offered), Bread/Butter, the Crab Dip and Crackers, and my meal. Yeesh. I felt like this was bad. I really wanted sweetner for my tea--but no one was to be found. I was so thirsty that I drank it down anyway. I really wish I could have enjoyed a piece of bread, then my meal... you know... like normal? But here is the part that got me:

My dinner 7 weeks ago:

My dinner this night:

IMG_3429.jpg

Oh. There is a creature looking at me on my plate. I'm a lobster tail girl, and anything with eyes kind of freaks me out. I didn't realize this is what he had me order when I said about the tail earlier. I ate my potatoes and the crab legs which were delicious as expected, but then I decided to tackle this beast. I was kind of grossed out, and didnt make it far. I indulged in the bread basket and the crab dip, and finally... a spark of life from my waiter. He brought me another Iced Tea, and wanted to know that when I said "we" were down here last month... who "we" were. Ummm my husband. Where is he? He's home--I'm here on business--and left it at that. I wish he was half as interested in my needs and wants at the restaurant as he was in my personal life. As much as I wanted the Toll House cookie dessert--I passed because I was still a little queasy from looking Fredrick in the eyes. That's what I decided to name the lobster.

So that was $60 I'll never get back. In the future, I will stick with the Snow Crab dinner and the cookie dessert. (unless they have the Canadian tail!) I was mad at myself for spending that much and wasting it, all because of my fear of my food looking at me. I was a little bitter about my service experience, especially after an AMAZING experience, just a few weeks prior. I think my agitation of the day kind of had me on a short fuse, so I chalked it up as me being a brat and moved on.

Downtown Disney was hoppin! It was crowded. World of Disney was almost impossible to move in, so I left. I decided to bypass Basin because I wanted to look at Basin White too--plus it was busy. I went over to Tren-D and got a nail polish I wanted... I was kicking myself last time for not getting it. It was off to the pin store. I picked up 6 mystery boxes, and a set of 5 mystery hats. I got to the register and got a random character pin, and 2 2.95 traders. So that's 20 pins on night one.

I ran over to Goofy's and got a couple bottles of Cherry Coke, and 2 Milk Chocolate pretzels with Peanut Butter Chips. Those are my favorites!!

On my way out, I decided to check in the art store. I was really disappointed in May. I wanted the Cinderella Castle pokitpal, and all of WDW was out of it and not sure if they were getting it back any time soon. DH really wanted to get it for me for my birthday, and he was upset because we couldn't find it. I don't wear my rings in the house, and tend to lay them anywhere--so we thought it would make the perfect house for them! Low and behold--it was there!! I was so stinking excited!! I love it!

Here is the site of all of the Pokitpals: http://olszewskistudios.com/OlszewskiOriginalPokitPals.php

I arrived at the bus stop just as the bus was pulling up. I was able to get a seat in the back. Little did I know that I was about to be entertained for the next 35 minutes by 3 wild little girls. Mom and dad sat near the front, and the 3 girls sat in the back. I would say one was 5ish, one was 6/7 ish, and one was 8/9ish. The 8/9ish girl was the ring leader. They were swinging off the poles, and singing Ke$ha's Tik Tok at the top of their lungs, and they knew all the inappropriate words. They then went on to Red Solo Cup. The parents tried yelling over the entire bus for them to sit down. :rotfl2: Even I could tell these kids could not be stopped--especially with them knowing their parents could not get thru to them. They went on to a couple other songs that weren't necessarily Disney appropriate, but I can't think of what they were. Those other 2 stuck in my mind though. Combined with the pole dancing--and the comments of those around them getting kicked and hit by the dancing trio--it was quite the ride. I jumped off at All Star Music, and went in to check out their gift shop, food court, and pool area. I was happy I was staying at Movies--I just wasn't getting the appeal over at Music.

I made it back to my room, completely unpacked and settled. I opened up my pins, set up my lanyard with what I wanted to trade, then DH called.

I was still a little freaked about not having a great financial cushion, even though the paycheck would be hitting in the morning. I asked him if he was at home--yes. I asked him to go into a certain room, and gave instructions on what to look for. Of course, he found my emergency fund that he didn't know I had. Well--because it's for emergencies... not for dinner at Benihana or the latest gadget. I asked him to deposit it in the morning because I would just feel better having it for now. I hated keeping it a secret from him, but at the same time--I'm glad I had it for a situation like this. I strongly believe that we all need a little emergency cash set aside. I had my checking hacked a few months back, and I learned a lesson that having everything in an account isn't always safe.

I told him about the pins and the pokitpal :) We talked for a few, but I needed to get to sleep. I had a long, serious day ahead of me. We said our goodbyes, I took a look at the properties I would visit the next day on the iPad, and started to turn everything off. Once I turned off the TV, I could hear people going to their rooms outside. I turned the TV on low to muffle the low noise--I stretched out and fell asleep.

And that's Day 1 of my Adventure!

Wow - what a day you had! I would have left that hotel too :scared1: I'm so glad you got a reservation just in time as your phone died - what pixie dust you had!

I have always wanted to move near WDW and am so happy you are sharing your adventure with us :)

Toto, we're not in Disney anymore.

:hug:Sorry I am so late to the party Deena. I am glad you ended up at Movies we stayed twice at Mighty Ducks! Loved it!!! Yay for the refund..bet that happens a lot there...

LOVE the view from Fulton's

LOL about the lobster! They are a bit hard to handle...and messy!! Glad you were all settled in at Movies!:thumbsup2

That was quite a first day....but how nice you could hop a bus to DTD, enjoy some times there and then back on the bus to ASMo...even with a little extra UNentertainment! I'm surprised the driver didn't say something - it used to that such behavior would never be tolerated. I sure would have wanted to say something, but of course, wouldn't.

All in all, it turned out to be a pretty good rest of the day...but only because it ended at Disney!

Looking forward to hearing all about the next day's app'ts! :)

I want to eat at Fulton's someday but also do not like my food to be looking at me. Can not wait to read more.

Oh my!! What an adventure for your first day! I'm glad it all worked out but I would have had a melt down. That's funny that you had WDW room reservations phone # memorized.

I can totally relate to your secret stash of $ that DH doesn't know about... I had that until I had to spill my guts. Now I've just moved it to another hiding place! :rotfl2:

Wow! That was a very uh... interesting... first day! I would've left too that hotel too... just hearing about it gives me the creeps! :scared:

I'm on the edge of my seat reading this TR because it's ALWAYS been my secret fantasy to be able to move to Orlando and have WDW at my doorstep!

Enjoying the trip report! So glad you got the heck out of Bates Motel, as KOOK called it over to your happy place, Disney! Laughed so hard about your lobster. I totally agree, I don't want my food to have eyes looking at me

HOLY MOLY!

•I'm glad you got out of that place (and a refund!). Gross, gross. A possibly bed bug infestation would freak me out too. I don't think I could stay there either!
•I also cannot believe you checked in and stayed at a value resort! Glad you liked Movies, though!
•The Mighty Ducks room is pretty spiffy! :)
•That's a bummer about Fulton's...especially because you had to name your dinner. :headache:

Hmmmm, can u not quote from the iPad app??

So I would have died if they set a whole lobster in front of me. Not sure I would know what to do with it! Can't wait to hear about the apts!

What is a mystery hat pin?

Wow...What a Day! I am onboard for more!!

I'm happy to be documenting it! I know that lots of it contemplate it every time we go. Every trip to and from MCO on Magical Express... I stare out the window wondering if I'm going to live at the complex that I can see from the highway. It's really happening, and I'm both nervous and excited at the same time!!

:hug:Sorry I am so late to the party Deena. I am glad you ended up at Movies we stayed twice at Mighty Ducks! Loved it!!! Yay for the refund..bet that happens a lot there...

LOVE the view from Fulton's

Your tardiness is excused due to having a family that needs you  I liked the refurb and the fact that it had a mini refrigerator now! I had actually read online that people still walked and DIDN'T get their money back. They must have known not to mess with me :lmao::rotfl2:

LOL about the lobster! They are a bit hard to handle...and messy!! Glad you were all settled in at Movies!:thumbsup2

Meeee too!!

What a first day. Can't wait to read about the rest of your trip

Next day coming right up!

The bus was so full--he played the "sit down" recording about 3 times. It did nothing, so he gave up. After all the mess.... I went to bed smiling because I was in Disney World :goodvibes

I want to eat at Fulton's someday but also do not like my food to be looking at me. Can not wait to read more.

Well stick with the tails and the crab legs :) DH had the seafood sampler last month and raved about it!!

:rotfl2:

Well... I think I was too nervous to have a meltdown, lol. My survival skills kicked in and I was running on adreniline. Lol--he went in my wallet to get the checkbook the other day, and saw I had a new stash building, lol. I quickly let him know that it was going toward the new mattress, and if he blew it, I would be on the floor :rotfl: I've had the number memorized since I would call from my previous work and I had to dial it. I miss that job since they got sold :( I could Dis and make calls all day :rotfl2:

Wow! That was a very uh... interesting... first day! I would've left too that hotel too... just hearing about it gives me the creeps! :scared:

Yepppp---creepy.

I'm on the edge of my seat reading this TR because it's ALWAYS been my secret fantasy to be able to move to Orlando and have WDW at my doorstep!

It's only a decision, and a "lets go!" away!!!

Enjoying the trip report! So glad you got the heck out of Bates Motel, as KOOK called it over to your happy place, Disney! Laughed so hard about your lobster. I totally agree, I don't want my food to have eyes looking at me

Lol---that fear goes wayyyyyyyy back to when my dad used to take me fishing. He knew I wasn't eating it unless the face was cut off, lol. I'm still a child when it comes to food, lol.

HOLY MOLY!

•I'm glad you got out of that place (and a refund!). Gross, gross. A possibly bed bug infestation would freak me out too. I don't think I could stay there either!

Welcome to the party!!! First of all--I miss you a ton... why does life have to get busy after weddings?? I'm glad I got to check a value resort off my bucket list. The refurb is great right?

Hmmmm, can u not quote from the iPad app??

So I would have died if they set a whole lobster in front of me. Not sure I would know what to do with it! Can't wait to hear about the apts!

What is a mystery hat pin?

I haven't 100% figured out my iPad... love it... just a little technology challenged. Lol--I wasn't 100% sure how to eat it either. The mystery hats are a new mystery set. I think there's 16 or 20 in the set. You get 5 in a bag. I got a bag last time, but just to trade. DH didn't tell me he wanted the whole set, and there I am trading them away :lmao: Sooooooo I was given instructions to get more this time, lol.

..... I lost the post by Goldeelox????? WELCOME :) Glad you're here!!!
