The TR that shouldn't have happened - June 2012 - TR and Decision Complete!

Day 5 and 6

The alarm went off at 8am. It was still raining.

I had a bowl of cereal, and got my list ready to call. At 8:30, I started making calls. The one place wasn't going to work out for me, but told me to call a company called Apartment Hunters, and they are a free service that suggests places in Orlando based on your needs.

I called them, and a lovely lady named Cat said she would get a list for me! I told her the places I was going to check out in the interim.

I got a quick shower, and at this point gave up on looks--it was a disaster outside. I got in the car and I was on my way.

I started at the Place on Millenia. This place was amazing. I loved it. The staff was super friendly, and they had coffee :) The grounds were beautiful, the apartments were spacious and beautiful. They did come with a W/D, but they were just great--I was super impressed with this place. I was very happy when I left, but there were a few more places at Millenia, and I wanted to see at least one more. I went over to the Fountains at Millenia--but they weren't for me--at all.

Moving on. I went over to Fisherman's Village. That place was odd to me. The W/D hookup was on the patio-outside :confused3 He said it was for safety reasons. The place was outdated, and I kindly (but my face wasn't as kind) told him I had enough.

As I got to my car, I got a call from Cat that she sent me a list. So I decided to hit it! It was a long list, but I decided I better do what I have to do. I ventured over to Metrowest--a small area of town full of businesses and apartments. LaPallazza, Harbourtown, Sabel Palm--all nice, but not for me. The Element... was LOVE. I loved it, a little pricey, but love love. I wanted to love at least one place in each different area--so this was good. I had already been to 7 places that day, lol.

Next was an area that I didn't consider because I didn't know much about it--Hunter's Creek. As I drove into the small town, I felt much safer, much more "home" than ever before. This was a great location and a great town. I pulled into Parkway at Hunter's Creek--loved the grounds, but was meh on the apartment. I wasn't sure I cared though--I really liked the area.

Next was the Cottages. I liked the people here, they were so cute--I loved them! When we got in the unit, I felt like I was home. She said they'd take out the W/D for us (YES!), and although I didn't love the bathroom cabinets, I still thought I was "home". I teared up for a minute because I felt relief of a place that I liked. I got tons of info on this place, because I really liked it. A little over budget, but at this point--I was open to moving the budget for a safe, nice place.

I went across the street to the Parks. There was commotion in the leasing office, and the apartment wasn't great. It was okay--but more college student than adult, if that makes sense.

Down the street to Camden at Hunter's Creek... very nice, but includes W/D. Got info here too! Around the corner to Osprey, and it was nice, but I only liked the upgraded apartments, and none were coming available. The only other place around there (I think) was Urbana. which was my dream home, but it was crazy expensive, and way beyond my wildest dreams, so I kept driving--I had looked online.

Well, that was it. I went to 12 places that day--and made a whole day out of it. WDW was less than 10 minutes away from Hunter's Creek, and I passed Sea World on the way. It was a great location.

I was so hungry, and knew what I wanted before I left. I drove to the TTC and parked on the Heroes side--Simba 27. I took the ferry over to the MK, ran in to trade on of my VMs, and got an Animal Kingdom one--it was neat!! I went across the road to the Emporium to see if they had anything for me to trade my other one for--but I wasn't impressed, so I left.

I walked back to Columbia Harbour House and got shrimp, fries, and an apple dessert. I sat upstairs and watched the Haunted Mansion queue grow to 40 minutes. I reflected on the day and the trip.

I was tired of wearing a poncho, I missed DH and Baxter, I had 16 mosquito bites on my feet, and I hadn't seen Lilly, or visited my favorite park, DHS.

My food was great, as always--I love that place. I didn't want to leave. I wanted to sit there and people watch out the window all day. Finally a family with overstimulated children came into the back room with me, and I suddenly wanted to face the rain.

I shopped around a bit, thought about riding the People Mover--but just decided to leave. I walked thru the Emporium again, and as I passed the Vinylmation trading again... I did a triple take. OMG is that what I think it was?? I stopped dead in my tracks and booked it over there. There was one of the TRON pieces I was missing!!! It was fate that I walked in there. All the bad things on this trip were forgotten because I got CLU and didn't have to buy it online!! What a great day!!! I called DH immediately. I took the monorail back to the TTC, got back to my car, and decided to just keep moving.

I drove back over to Downtown Disney to see if they pin trading board was open. There was a few I was in the market for to finish sets, and I wasn't having luck getting. It wasn't open, so I walked around and did some pin trading in shops. I waited for an hour, then left.

Drove over to DHS, parked, took the tram, looked at the pin book there--nothing great. Did some pin trading in the shops, got a couple more duo packs. I really wanted to ride RNRC, but I was wet and sticky from the poncho, and didn't want to wait. I got a frozen banana and walked toward the exit.

I hopped the tram back to my car, and decided it was time to just go back to the room. I dropped off my goods, but decided I was kind of hungry, and that I better get to the food court before it went to limited items. I didn't want that spaghetti again.

I walked down, hit the pin board at the gift shop, considered buying the shampoo/conditioner in grapefruit bergemot--but remembered I would be moving soon enough and could get it then. No need for Disney hoarding this time.

Over at the food court, I picked up an apple juice for the morning, and the london broil with mashed potatoes and corn, with a cherry coke for tonight. Used, my TIW discount and I was off to the room.

I ate, checked into my flight, organized, then packed for the rest of the evening. I finally went to bed about 1am. My journey was over.

The next morning, I got up, showered, had cereal and apple juice, and made sure I had everything. I packed up the car, went over to the luggage check in to send my checked bag to the airport. They gave me my boarding pass.

It was time to go!! I got gas 6 miles from the airport, returned the rental car--the guy was rushing me out, and I was nervous I forgot something--but I didn't. The line for security was realllllllllllllllllllllllllly long for a Tuesday morning. I got thru, got to my gate, read my book a bit, then decided to get lunch. I went back to the gate to wait, I volunteered to sit in an exit row for the extra room, then boarded shortly after.

I sat with a quiet boy in his late teens I'm assuming. He was quiet, I read.

The idiots behind me were amusing. They were 2 know-it-alls going back and forth. When we were close to landing, they were intriged with the large homes they saw. I knew exactly where we were. They said, "hmmm I wonder where we are in Ohio that have homes this large--that one has a pool and tennis court." They went on and on about this area. I knew it was Triple Crown in Union, Ky. A minute later, we passed my measly condo complex and the shopping areas of Florence. The guys behind us kept going on about how they can't believe this is what downtown Cincinnati looks like. I giggle, and the kid next to me is laughing too.

So we land and turn on our devices. They are flabbergasted behind me that their devices tell them they are in Kentucky. They think something is wrong, and are making excuses for their electronics. Finally, as I stood up... I said, "You're in Kentucky, this is the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky airport, Cincinnati is about 20 minutes north of the airport." I think they felt dumb, but I felt good about myself :rotfl::lmao:

I got my baggage, and DH was waiting outside! I was happy to see him, and I wanted to get home and see the doggies. I was so mentally fried and happy to be home. DH wanted to know everything immediately, and wanted his goods. I told him we'd talk at dinner, he chose Red Lobster. He was more interested in arranging the VMs, lol. He also put the pins in the book right away.

We were off to dinner, and to talk. Here were my faves per area:

Hunter's Creek: Cottages
West: Cagan's Crossing
MetroWest: The Element
Millenia: The Place
East: Crowntree Lakes

We had lots to talk about, looking at maps, websites, brochures, and money.

And... the next installment will have more and exciting news.... What do you think will happen?? (ONLY if don't already know, lol)

In the interest of putting off things off that need to be done... I'm going to keep typing.

DH put his foot down and said that we ARE taking the W/D, and we ARE using it.

That means, say goodbye to the Place and the Element, and Crowntree Lakes if we didn't want to pay for a storage unit.

It was down to Cagan and the Cottages at HC. I was having trouble with decisions and said I would look further into it during the week. I couldn't think anymore.

The next day, I called Cat. She sent me a few more to look at online. I was really liking Century Palms, but it was expensive--but at this point, I wasn't sure that I cared if it had everything else.

I then read some noisy reviews about the Cottages, and wasn't sure about it anymore.

It was getting hard. I also asked DH when he wanted to go--and he said--soon. I had to go back to work for a few days so it kind of got put off, but I did some online searches here an there.

I started my internet search all over again. If I didn't find anything it would come down to Cagan or Century Palms. I hadn't even seen Century Palms in person.

So last Monday (a week prior to today), I was thinking, if I was going to up my budget for Century Palms, why not revisit Cane Island which I have mentioned a couple times prior?? Ehhh... they have W/D included. I figured I'd call to see if they would remove them. So I picked up the phone.

I talked to a lovely lady, and said, sure, they would take them out for me!! Okay.... tell me more!! Well high speed internet and cable are included... built in 2007, new, black kitchen appliances, garden tub..... WHOA!! With the cable/internet included, it was well within budget!! I was kicking myself for not calling when I was down there. At least I did a drive by!

I had to tell DH! We talked, and talked, and talked. It was 14 miles away from my work vs. the 30 miles that Cagan was. It was well within budget, which Century Palms was not. DH said to go for it!

I was nervous about the application process, so I was prepared to try a few. DH and I have been in debt management for a few years. His is from divorce stuff, mine is from tons of medical and credit cards. This wrecks your credit before making it better, so I was very nervous, but I have never been late--it just makes it better for it to be one payment for me.

We got all our info for the application.....
I submitted....

and we were ACCEPTED!!!

We move into Cane Island on August 31, 2012!!! I am nervous and excited!!! It's happening!!! The hilarious part is that I spent that HORRIBLE trip in the rain, and didn't even choose an apartment I went to see. I'm rediculous.

The next scary part was telling work. Going into the executive offices telling them that it was really happening and I needed a transfer was terrifying. People did it all the time, but for some reason, I was nervous. It really was no big deal after all, sad, but no big deal. I spoke with the store I'm transferring to, and I'm most likely staying with Dior, but we may explore other options too. I'm relieved to know I have a job at my current rate of pay--it really eases my mind.

Our families all know now. It's so official, and we are really excited. 7 1/2 weeks from now we will be Florida residents!!

Thanks to everyone who is reading and supportive!!

We're going to look at new furniture tonight, and I have already started to pack stuff up!! I will update more along the way!! Yay!! No more secrets!!

I am COMPLETELY worn out by your whirlwind last two days and need a facial now, too. Would DH have been able to keep-up with you had he been there? Are you sure you wouldn't want to be one of those WDW VIP tour guides who take guests around to all the parks for like 8 hours and wear those cute retro hats? You'd be great at that!

I am so on the edge of my desk chair now. You are not permitted to go to work, Red Lobster, Florence pin trading meetings or any spas until we hear how this turns out popcorn::

ETA: OMG, you posted before I did and I can't believe it! I'm so happy for you! PLEASE post some Cane Island photos!

ETA (again): Couldn't wait - is this the right place:

Good for you, lol. I'm always so tempted to correct annoying people like that.

Triple Crown is where Josh Hutcherson lives. (My love of tween books is showing)

Can't wait to see where y'all chose. It's like watching House Hunters.

Holy cow! What a crazy few days/weeks!

I am very excited for you. Is your dh also able to transfer with his job?

So I wait impatiently, as long as its good news I'll happily wait :flower3:

:worried: I would've exited at that point too....I hate DD when it's packed. Rather explore it leisurely...hope you had a good night's sleep. Can't wait to hear about Deena's Day & what you did on your "day off" :hyper:

:flower3: You and DH should go to SSR Spa next month!!

Lol, you're funny!!! Yes! That's the place!! There's no possible way he could have kept up with me if he went. No way. I should be a hyper tour guide, lol. I ramble off facts like crazy. I have a sponge for a memory. I remember everything. So that's my new home!! Like it??

Lol--yep, that's where he (well at least his family) live!! Cane Island is the winner!!

Holy cow! What a crazy few days/weeks!

I am very excited for you. Is your dh also able to transfer with his job?

He's working on that right now, but has also applied elsewhere. I think he ultimately wants to be elsewhere, but will take the transfer for the time being!

What a whirlwind ending!! So exciting for you guys! That is great about your transfer too, one less thing to sort out!:goodvibes

Just caught up, soooo exciting! Congruatulations! Sounds like you found the perfect place for the two of you! I like KOOK'S idea of a Disney Tour Guide...something to do in your spare time!

Now then, after you move and live down there you will have to come to WDW to meet all of us when we visit!

Congrats Deena!!! 7 weeks.... so soon! Amazing!!!!!

BTW they have 4br..now I want to go too :goodvibes

Hi Deena,

First of all, congratulations on moving to Florida! I'm so happy that everything is working out for you. I read your wedding PJ/TR and it seems like Florida is the perfect place for you and your husband. I'm definitely jealous!

Keep us updated on how the move is going.

All the best,
Kara

Loved reading your report! You are a trooper. I would have given up and went home to DH. Can't wait to hear about how the move goes. Congratulations!

I found your thread Saturday but it was just before DD finished her dancing classes then I had work so completely forgot to go back to it.

What a trip you had! So happy you have found somewhere and have a moving date!! You must be so excited.

Hope the next few weeks go quick for you and that everything goes ok. :flower3:

Congratulations on making your choice! How exciting for you! You braved the rain, slushies being spilled on you and your debit card fiasco...you deserve a vacation now!! :thumbsup2 Glad it all had a happy ending! :thumbsup2

Congrates on finding a place! Cane Island sounds great! I am so Happy for guys not to mention Jealous as Hell!

:cool1: for you!!! Very exciting, isn't it?! So glad you found a place you liked...and not too far from Disney;) It's awesome that you can transfer your work so easily. Are you going to apply at WDW?? You said your work will be 14 miles away...where exactly is it? Hope all goes well for you with your new venture!

Best of luck!!!!
Heather

Congrats on your upcoming move! It will be so exciting for you!! You must keep us posted on how everything is going!

Hello - I'm new here. :wave2:

Congrats! I am jealous. Reading this has me looking into all those apartments as well. As it appears, rent down there is somewhat lower than it is here in Minnesota. Once I graduate from college, and DD1 is out of the house (in a few more years), I plan on moving down as well. Thanks for sharing!

I'm so glad things worked out for you. Congratulations on the new place :cool1: Hope the move and everything else runs smoother than this trip did. ::yes::

Good Luck!
Marybeth

Just finished you TR and congrats on picking a place!! Right now I live in North West Florida but we plan to move to Orlando in 4 years. Since I can't wait I've already started looking at places online to get a general idea on what to expect price wise. (which of course can change) Your TR helped immensely. I was wondering how you found all the apartments to begin with? I've already bookmarked apartment hunters...just hopefully I'll remember in all that time lol.

Anyway good luck with the move! Hope it all goes smoothly and welcome to FL residency!!
