Sorry, if someone started a thread on this already.
I did a search and nothing came up.

Any,
has anyone read or gone to see the movie.

Never, in my entire life, have I read a book
and been so lost.
I kept asking my dd what was happening as I read the book.
I thought she could explain it to me, because she saw the movie.
She told me the movie really didn't follow the book, but she was glad
she saw the movie, before she read the book. Make any sense?
Usually it is the other way around.

Now that I finished the book,
I can go back and re-read it, because it only makes sense
in the end, but not totally.
I'm not wasting my money to watch the movie in a theatre,
I'll wait till my library gets it and watch it for free.

I just read the book over a long weekend on Sanibel Island. :cool1:

I made the comment I could *not* see how they could make a movie of this. I appreciated the fact in the book each segment had the ages of the characters listed so you knew what was going on.

My sister saw the movie (she said she read the book so long ago she couldn't remember!) and it wasn't too hard to follow.

From the book, I think it would be. I also don't like the people they chose for the leads. :confused3

I read the book and saw the movie. I did take me a little time to get into the book and totally understand it. Most people I know who have read it either have loved it or had no clue what was going on through the whole thing.

As for the movie, I thought it was pretty close to the book, it omitted a lot of the unimportant stuff that wouldn't change the outcome. My worst fear with seeing the movie is that they would change some key parts of the book and I was pleased to see that they did not.

Thought it was fairly straightforward really. They "meet" at the beginning so you know how old they are "now". Then the bits at the top of the chapter tell you whether it's an older Henry meeting a younger - um - wotshername, and how much older/younger so you know how much each knows about how the relationship is developing. Or in some chapters you have an older Henry meeting a younger Henry. And then with the other character at the end who also time travels (don't want to put in too many spoilers) - you can tell how old that person is and where they fit in the picture too.

It took me a long time to get into the book and I didn't really like it.

I saw the movie last weekend and I loved it! It was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. Much better than the book really.

Full disclosure - I hated the book. But my problems with the novel weren't really in the story telling. It was the story itself. That said...

While reading, I found myself constantly flipping to the front of the chapter to reference where they were in the time line. How old each character was.

What finally got me past that was the realization that the story is really about HER therefore after the initial meeting, it generally follows her time line.

I don't know why I had such a hard time with that but I always wanted to follow him chronologically rather than her.

That however, is the least of my problems with the book.

Maybe I should have done that.
I never thought to go to the front of the book to see how old he was
to compare the time line.
It confused me that he could go forward when "he" wanted too.
Such as "getting the lottery numbers" and you had to make up your own mind if Claire used the numbers to win or not, it really never said.
The book was like a soap opera, they would start a story line and seem to just drop and not finish.

THAT! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to buy the movie when it comes out, but I doubt I will ever pick that book up again.

Im with you! I saw the movie first and LOVED it!!! I then read the book and hated it! All the events were pretty much the same but the movie had alot more sentiment and sweetness to it where I thought the book was fiflthy and crude at times.

I loved the book. I like hte fact that it skipped around and parts were confusing/left you hanging. It made you feel more like the characters, made it easier to identify with them. Also, I don't like it when books just wrap up in these nice neat little packages. Some of the best literature requires you to think. Like Lois Lowry's Giver series.

I've not seen the movie yet, but I read the book. It was years ago, but I don't remember being confused. I loved the book.

Sometimes, though, I'll read a book or see a movie and be completely lost and then later read or see it again and it's all clear. I think it's the just mind frame I'm in.

I loved the book...I love figuring out the "twist" in a book or movie.

I have not seen the movie, but I would like to. I cannot imagine that they would be able to cover evertyhing...just the higlights!

Short stories make the best movies!

Now I definitely have to see the movie because I loved the book, in fact its one of my favorites of all time. No pun intended I swear
