I was wondering to sit at the sushi bar at the California Grill do you still need an ADR or will they let you up there if they have room?

I don't think there is a sushi bar at the California Grill.

There is the bar, where you can sit. There is also some limited counter seating, where you're able to watch the chefs make the sushi, but I wouldn't personally call it a sushi bar. You probably need to have a reservation for that. If it's open they would probably let you up, but you run the risk that it isn't open.

You don't need reservations for the drinks bar or the lounge, where you can order the full menu, but they may not let you go up to the lounge if it's full.

It can be done. However I don't know if the rules have changed. I remember in 2005 that a walk up for the sushi bar sat next to me. After talking to him, he did it on a regular basis. I would expect it is far more likely if it is a single person asking to go to the bar than a group.

Thank you for that information.

We have not sat at the Sushi Bar since our 90's trips. Back then we got seats with and without ADRs. Every trip we go to the California Grill but we have not sat at the Sushi bar since we have had too many people in our party. I don't think the seating has changed at the bar, there is room for two on one side and the other seats three.

During our end of the 90s trips we would get up late and eat late so that made getting seats easier. We closed out the California Grill many a night. We would eat there EVERY night that we could. One night we could NOT eat there because the grill had been bought out for a part thrown by Eisner. :sad1: We were not happy. ;) California Grill is our favorite place to eat. :cool1:

Eating at the Sushi bar is very nice especially if Yoshi is working that night. Watching the people work in the kitchen is a real plus for us.

Can't wait to go back.

Later,
Dan
