The story some of you have been waiting for.

She didn't take it out. Her husband took it out, because, apparently, it was so hidden on an umbrella stroller, that he had no clue it was there. Also, apparently, security and the police were waiting inside the store to nab him on the off chance the family might return with the goods, instead of going anywhere else.

Urban Legend. I have read this story before. I have worked retail. The husband wouldn't have been arrested unless security saw him shoplift. I have read several posts by the OP and I really am starting to doubt anything she writes.

I would think the warning would be to be careful when shopping with your DH...

I thought the same thing. The kids didn't take anything, the parents did.

Maybe the mystery DIS'er this supposedly happened to will come along to defend her friend and clear up some details.

Maybe they are one and the same! :teeth:

Okay....STOP! This "story" did not happen. Head of WDW security is a *personal friend* of mine and I forwarded this thread to her to read. Again, DID NOT HAPPEN. :sad2:

Hi ILOVEPCOT, can you ask your friend what the procedure is if a shoplifter is spotted on camera or by a CM? I'd like to know the real truth on this.

Since there is some confusion I wanted to give a recap of this ongoing saga. I think we are up to 5 threads now on this disaster of a trip to WDW. This should bring you up to speed. All threads in order. popcorn::

Thanks for clearing this up. This story did not have a ring of truth to it from the start. The OP has a grudge against WDW...

So... the OP did not read the disclaimer that schedules are subject to change, and did not understand how the DDP worked (despite the brochure you get at check-in and her extensive research). Oh yeah, and her 'friend'' who was there at the same exact time was arrested for shoplifting. How is any of this Disney's fault?

Believe me, I don't see Disney through pixie-dust covered glasses, I acknowledge the good and bad about it. But none of this is Disney's fault.

To the ones that think I just made this up, shame on you, why would I do this to WDW.

I think you are doing nothing to WDW. I think I know what you want to do to WDW but you are not succeeding. I don't believe this happened. And if it did, I think it would be because of the way the family handled the situation.

I'm wondering if this family has been banned for life from WDW or not?? :confused3

Some of you might believe that there is two sides to a story. But you will have to take my word for it.

Nope it's not a belief - it's a FACT that there are always two sides to a story. It's a shame that you feel you have to fabricate a tall tale like this to try and get people to sympathize with you about your crappy vacation.

Actually there are 3 sides to a story- the first side, the second side, and the truth- which is somewhere in between.

I worked with a lady whose daughter went on a trip to WDW with her HS band. Two of the girls with the band were caught shoplifting and were removed from the park. They spent the rest of their time in their hotel room along with one of their chaperones. From what she said, Disney banned them from the parks for life. Now, I don't fully believe that Disney will be able to recall any certain person if they get caught doing something illegal at the parks. For ex: a kid gets caught stealing at Disney 15 yrs ago, and decides to take his family on vacation there 15 years later. When he calls the reservation line, I don't think a CM will tell him, "Sorry but you are banned for life.". Again, this is the info that was told to me. I do believe the part about removing them from the parks, just not sure about the lifetime ban though.

I can see how this could happen. When the kids were little. If I would have left a store and dh would see the stroller, he would have taken it with him. He would have assumed that I took one of the kids to the bathroom in an emergency and wouldn't have had time to tell him.
So I can easily see a husband taking the family stroller with him if he didn't see the wife. He probably didn't sit and analyze why the stroller was there, he knew it belonged to him and took it to find his wife and child.

so, what we have here is a disgruntled customer who's been whining about her trip all over the DIS telling us a story she already knows we won't believe, and getting defensive when we don't believe it.

and we've heard from a CM and a friend of WDW security that the sotry cannot possibly be true.

and even without hearing from those two "experts", we've heard from other retail types who say it's implausible.

so of course I have to take this tory with more than just a grain of salt.

SO I DID IT, I told you the TRUE STORY all of you were waiting to hear.

Rehashing it doesn't help any.

I can't even say I will return to read the replies due to the fact that some of them are sooo darn judgemental and rude. You have a choice to either believe or not. If you don't then just move on.

Couple of issues here....who was "waiting" to hear this story??? You act like it's a major CNN newsbreaking story or something!! It's not like we all were sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear this rediculous story!
Second, you said rehashing it doesn't help....YOU POSTED this story!!!! So don't you think you are rehashing it? If you didn't want peoples true reactions to your "story" then you shouldn't have posted it! Maybe it's time for you to move on from this!!!! Sounds like, if it is true (ahem), then your friend needs to get herself a great lawyer and sue the pants off Disney. (I don't think she'll win, but hey, if you say it's true....)

uh...even assuming the story is true...the "friend" has no grounds to sue WDW.

I'm not sure what the standards are in Florida law, but I'd hazard a guess that "theft" is not an "intent" crime -- even if she took the things "by accident" and it was all a misunderstanding, WDW would have had a reasonable belief that the items were stolen -- so it would be hard to prove false arrest or malicious prosecution.

Nope, THIS claim is true. The OP started this all on the Theme Parks Attractions & Strategies board, but the Moderators over there determined that's the wrong place, so they moved this thread, and an earlier one by the same OP, over here. Click on her name, then on "View Public Profile" in the dropdown menu. On her PP page, there's a link for something like "See all threads started by this poster".

I'm not buying any of it. This is, to my knowledge, the third time this OP dropped a huge bag of dung on the Dis. She usually disappears for days afterward.
