what do the fans who watched the steelers / titans game on saturday think of the referee's call for roughing the kicker? i personally feel it was a bad call and the kick should have been counted as a miss causing a third down. the titan's kicker even said he embelished the fall. if the flag call was reversed the titans may have still won the game, but at least the steelers would have had a chance.

i think the referee made a bad call especially since it was in the playoffs. what do you think?

It wasn't "roughing the kicker", it was "running into the kicker" (one's a 15 yard penalty, the other is a 5 yarder). That was definitely running into the kicker, embellished fall by the kicker or not. The Steeler player dove for the block, didn't get a piece of the ball, but clipped the kicker's ankle -- it's a no-brainer call.

The kicker said in an interview after the game that "he was hit but he's thinking about going into acting when he's done playing ball."

i can't believe how proud the kicker seems of his fall. i guess he doesn't care since there is nothing that can be done about it now. :(

hope the steelers do well again next year. maybe they'll make it to the super bowl.:D

Just for arguements sake that it was a bad call, does that justify the Coach's behavior???

Bad call.

jrmasm,
I didn't feel Coach Cowher's behavior was out of line. The refs didn't listen to him and when the game was over he spouted off for less than 2 seconds.

Pam

Pam, that's not what I was talking about. But since you brought it up, why is it acceptable behavior to scream in a ref's face??

What I was talking about was his exit from the field like his butt was on fire. Wait a sec, didn't you forget something?? How about congratulating the other coach. Required behavior in my book. Even if you don't mean it, you still put a smile on your face and pretend.

I think Cowher's behavior was justified....It's not as if he hit an official or threw something at him.

I agree with jrmasm -- no matter what your opinion of the ref's call in that game, Cowher should have taken the time to congratulate the other coach.

Ok - you have me on that one. But maybe Cowher took the other coach out for pizza after the game?;)

Pam

I have always like Cowher but when he did not offer a handshake to Fisher after that game, it left me with a bad taste.

Wasn't it Cowher years ago that broke Fisher's leg in a game????

i don't think it was roughing the kicker, but from what I understand, all players are told to stay away from the kicker at all cost!!!!

GO BUCS!!!

I don't think Cowher meant disrespect for Coach Fisher. I think he was running like that to plant him self in front of Washington's (#20) locker since he not only ran into the kicker, he missed that very important tackle that put the Titans in field goal range.

Steeler fans, get over it.It was the correct call. The blame should be on Washington, he knows he can't touch the kicker at all.The ref would make this call in the 1st, 2nd,3rd, quarter. So what is the "big deal" of calling it in the 4th qtr.
If Pittsburgh wanted a "timeout", way wait until 1 second before snapping the ball. They have no one to blame but the players themselves, especially Washington.

How about congratulating the other coach.

I read on a message board that he did. He went by the Titan's locker room after he went into the tunnel and met Fisher outside. Running off the field like that was a heat of the moment thing. It was the right call, but I would be as frustrated as Cowher to fight that hard and lose the game like that.

OK....technically, it was a penalty. But it had nothing to do with the missed kick and the kicker should get an oscar for his acting (when he spun to the ground). It was a time of the game when the proper call was not to make a call. No call was the right call but then again, Pittsburgh had planty of opportunity to not allow the game to come down to that point.

I'm an upset GIANTS FAN!!!!!! I feel your pain and totaly agree and believe that the ref made a bad call!!

Gees, Could this be a Browns fan who's still upset from the loss they endured by the Steelers last week and 2 other times during the regular season? I've seen a kicker knocked down plenty other times and penalties not called. I'm a Steeler fan until my dying day, but they had control of the game and let it slip away. It should have not gone down to that 1 call.

Yeah, the kicker hammed it up, but he did get run into, and that's a penalty. It stinks to lose it that way, and its easy to understand why Washington was trying so hard to block the kick. He expected Nedney to make such a chip shot and I'm sure felt like the only chance was to block the kick. Still, its a penalty.

Now, if you want to talk about some TRULY awful calls, this Raider fan could rattle off a few...;)

LOL Matt!! I take it you don't like snowy games on the east coast? :p :teeth:

The fact is that it was a penalty, pure and simple. All kickers ham up that call, because A.) They want to make sure the ref sees it (just like taking a charge in basketball) and B.) Usually, they're hoping for a 15-yard roughing the kicker penalty).
