The State Department advises U.S. citizens to reconsider foreign travel - update on 3/11, page 8.

And you’re also finding out that you aren’t the government and no one is going to follow your expectations.

I have 6 weeks of sick leave. By your standard, my commute to work is non-essential. Guess what? I’m going to work. I went on the Wonder last month. Did I have to? Nope but I did. Tough.

That's a bit abrasive, ending with "tough". Same team; mind keeping it friendly? I mean, same here - we even sailed on the Wonder at the end of January. Regardless it's pretty clear the government is saying to reconsider traveling on cruises, to wash your hands, stay home if you're sick, and possibly self quarantine if there is a good chance you've been exposed (I'm extrapolating that from the fact that politicians exposed to the virus have chosen to self quarantine and others have been told to do so where their cases have been confirmed).

I think all @ofcabbagesandkings was saying is that by the time WDW shuts down we'll be beyond the point where people should have already been avoiding crowds - Florida isn't the first state to get hit in increasing numbers. Depending on where you are I also agree with your point that if we all go shut ourselves in our houses right now we'd best be ready to stay there for far longer than a couple of weeks... its not at that point everywhere yet. You'll know when the time is right, and that is going to be different for each area. All anyone can ask is that when people make their decision they also make it with others in mind. By that I mean, if they're trying to decide if that throat is allergies or a cold, maybe don't go visit the folks in their retirement home.

In my state, things are starting to close, events are being cancelled, and I will not be surprised if my office enforces WFH by this time next week. The universities are all trying to hang on until spring break and are in talks about a 100% online spring term for the first several weeks. Many of the professors have already chosen to cancel their class hours as they are able. Several of my friends are having their offices shut down in the US and Canada, effective immediately. It's hard to say people are just being knee jerk to cancel their vacations or drive in to work instead of take the train when multimillion dollar companies are making even grander moves to curb this thing.

FWIW until I'm proper sick or told to stay home I'm going to go about my day, and I have "unlimited" sick time. That seems to be the main message given to the average worker right now.

These threads are getting so nasty between the people that think it's a nothing burger and the people that think we're in an apocalypse. Travel or hunker down in your home........ you do you, but please respect other people's choices.

I don’t know if I’d use the word nasty, but I think there is growing frustration from some of us that by downplaying the serious risks of this disease people risk becoming vectors that then infect others and spread the virus faster, and that some seem a little callous about how their decisions don’t have any affect on others.

It’s very difficult to say respect others’ choices when their choices put your family, friends, coworkers in high risk categories at further risk. For example, how do we respect the St Louis dad who decided their daughters risk of exposure in Italy was low and went to a school dance thereby exposing hundreds. Choices people make are bigger than just themselves in this case.

There are millions of people NOT on the dis boards that are going to continue to travel. It's just a difference of opinion. Do what you got to do to feel safe.

There is pretty hard, tangible data showing cases in children lagging far behind any older age group for COVID-19.

Except it is not ALL data. Its simply the group who was tested and the group who was potentially exposed to the disease. Not sure how hard it is to understand that adults are more likely to come in to contact with a disease based on traveling, cruise ships, and "exotic" locations.

If CDC felt this particular information to be out of context, they would simply not mention it.

Except they did. hahahahahahahaha They called out very limited information specifically in their information. I am not sure what else you want them to do. Trends were on very LIMITED information that children were infected less. There was NO further research on if this was important or simply randomness on where the virus was.

Back to the research I posted that is the only information show more controlled numbers of infection based on age.

There is absolutely no evidence of "limited" testing.

Except there is. Have you been following the disease since January? Well I personally have as someone who travels roughly every other week of the year.

There was extreme shortages of tests. They called getting a test in Wuhan as winning the lottery in the media back in January. In addition even in the US there has been a crazy shortages of tests. So common sense says they will test the worst cases not the cases that show very little symptoms that children seem to exhibit (based on China and CDCs reporting).

Yes, it's nothing more than a theory.
To reiterate, a 3% vs 20% difference is hard data confirmed by CDC.

Except your "hard data" is lacking actual general population results. So its just a theory on your "hard data" actually encompassing all who are sick especially those who don't exhibit more severe symptoms.

Again show me actual information from doctors and studies showing kids and adults get infected differently.

I am not sure why it is SOOOOOOOO hard to simply say Children MAY end up getting the CVOID-19 like adults if put in the same situations.

Do you not think if kids were not effect at all that it would not be all over the news? Or do you have some grand conspiracy in mind?

Sorry but no. I kept my mouth shut in January, I held my tongue in February, and I have tried to just correct incorrect information in March.

People who think traveling is fine: are wrong
People who think this is a hoax: are wrong
People who think this is the flu: are wrong
People who think they can go because they wont die: are wrong
People who think this is a Chinese thing: are wrong
People who think this will blow over: are wrong
People who think the US government will save us: are wrong
People who think their vacation is more important than everyone else: are wrong

I am sorry if this is to strong for you but please wake up. The world is not ending but everyone needs to chip in just just a little bit to make this whole thing go away in the US likely.

I guess there’s a lot of wrong at WDW today.

We were set to sail on Monday on the Disney Dream but decided to cancel. my parents and in-laws, who are all in their 60s and 70s, were planning on going with us. I had been looking forward to the cruise for over year and am very disappointed.

To be honest I’m more concerned on being quarantined on the ship than I am getting sick. Being stuck in a cabin for two weeks sounds like an absolute nightmare.

There is a reality though. Ones guess at what the actual situation is would count as an opinion. But there is a reality. Someone will turn out to be right and someone else will turn out to be wrong and there may very well be real life and death consequences. This is not purely an opinion in the sense that someone's favorite color is.

At WDW now. Parks are packed. Going to Africa at end of March. Can only cancel for medical reasons so unless someone in the family gets sick we are going. At this point Africa is one of the safer places to be. We have aulani in may and a cruise on the fantasy in June. No plans to cancel either of those. Hopefully this thing will be under control in a few weeks. Or it will get far worse. I’m not a worrier so we have a wait and see attitude.

The reality is right or wrong people are going to continue to travell. Getting worked up over it is pointless.

Looks like the cruise industry is looking at temporarily preventing/banning all 70+ aged travelers on all cruises, that is one of the suggestions that the cruise industry is talking to the government about today. It should be announced this afternoon by the government if they decide to do that. CEO of RCL just hinted heavily to it on the news.

Our cruise on the Dream sails in 67 days and we plan to be on that ship unless they tell me themselves I can't be. We even got lucky and got a Palo brunch on our very first Disney cruise thanks to someone rescheduling in our facebook group and I had hunch to go check when they announced that.

Can you provide more information on this? I couldn't find any mention of this.
