The star wars spoiler thread

"Amazing" is what you got from his very accurate recap of events?

I do. Star Wars wasn't really on the radar that I remember before 2012-at least not mine. The series was completed. Disney would buy it? Harrison Ford would be back? Yea right. Now look what we have and what's coming.

Oh please. The whole thing is opinion, including everything you are arguing. Just because it's not yours doesn't somehow invalidate it.

I agree

Here was my "opinion" all
Along:

Star Wars has an unprecedented loyal,
Large, rabid fan base.

To think it would break records if it was solid - not like phantom menace that sucked - was not exactly going out on a limb.

It's fanbase is bigger than Nearly anything...certainly
More than the Harry Potter and avatars of the world. Knowing that fanbase - a quick climb to the top was not unpredictable.

However...I don't see the legs because it's a bit polarizing...which means it's take is now gonna take a steep decline - my theory.

3 weeks to #1 is not an opinion. Saying we all new that would happen even if it was just decent (implying that's all the movie is) is just trying to diminish the accomplishment.

Never disagreed, just said 3 weeks was not being tossed around at all, and that 3 weeks was an amazing feat.

When someone says that it doesn't literally mean the entire human race knew it. It means it was a popular opinion that it would do it in a short time frame. A little less literal please.

No one is trying to diminish the accomplishment they're just saying they aren't surprised.

As for whether it is decent or bad or better, to use your own argument... opinion.

Fair enough. Hats off to Iger and Disney for doing it in 3 weeks (a very short timeframe) the literal numbers.

Jeez...it was not "unforeseeable"...even if nobody prop bet it in Vegas...

Today's Hollywood has been trending to that...all the money is made in exhorbinant opening totals and movies die very quickly.

It may go on and make $900 mil domestically and $2.5 bil total...but it could easily be effectively done by 1/31 and not crack $2 bil...we'll have to see.

Jurassic world made almost all of its domestic in 2 weeks...and That was during "movie season"...this is the way of things now. Bloated takes, short lifespans

Making it (FA) even more unbelievable. Thank you.

Still way too early to tell but Star Wars numbers nearly identical to avatar on day 21 (both Thursday's). In fact, it actually is very comparable to avatar if you just look at the same week for each movie (this week). Besides yesterday, Star Wars actually showed a smaller decline on each day than avatar (Star Wars had a 3.8% decline today, avatar had 11.8% on day 21...day 19 avatar declined 9.5% to Star Wars 0.7%). On the flip side, however, Star Wars had a much bigger decline yesterday (22.1% to 5.7%). Basically on a small sample size right now it is comparable to avatar. In fact for some reason avatar 20th day was its smallest decline for a weekday that week, where Star Wars Wednesday had its biggest decline. So it may be just an outlier and not a good indicator of the direction which led to a very small decline today. For the week so far the decline from Monday through Thursday of both movies is within 0.7% of each other and they both have earned nearly the same amount for the week. You really can't compare the first couple weeks when using it to predict what it will do next and only now can the day by day numbers truly give any sort of clue what may lay in store. Of course this is just domestic, and difficult to do same analysis on foreign when numbers are reported in the same frequent manner - leaves too many variables for what the trends are actually doing

Nice job, and 7 more "avatar" references, sorry 8 with mine.

Brilliant marketing.

.

Why would you get 10 cents for every Avatar reference? Avatar was released in 2009, and until 2017 with the Avatar sequels and new Avatar land at Animal Kingdom there isn't much Avatar news. Granted as Disney gets closer to the Animal Kingdom Avatar land, and Avatar sequels get closer, there will be lots of discussion about Avatar, but I'm just confused about why Avatar press would be relevant in the news now. I mean, really its just Avatar... Avatar and of course Avatar Avatar Avatar Avatar. You know Avatar.

If he's alone and in isolation for many years, it's assumed that the covering just wore out. The other thought/option is he leaves it uncovered as a reminder of Vader... But no official word I've seen.

Well, think about it from his perspective. You're all alone. You don't have to be pretty for anyone. You let your beard grow out, and you throw away that clunky latex glove that gets in the way. Made sense to me.

HaHa 16-new record. :worship:

This probably explains why at times the movie feels a bit rushed. But, generally deleting is better than not deleting in these circumstances. A lot of that stuff might be "interesting" but extraneous to the actual plot.

+1. Directors are always wanting to cut the "fat" out. ...but sometimes I want to see that stuff! It's fun! I read this recap of deleted scenes, and hate that I didn't get to see all of that.

Point 1: NOPE

Point 2: Lucas was still making tons of bucks...he had to want to sell.

Here's my theory:

Lucas was planning on making the follow ups regardless...but probably got a lukewarm reception from all
Involved. It could be bad stories were out there or he had no confidence from his contractual partners...we'll never know.

And...I think he "cut a deal" (yes...go look it up...business insiders he couldn't have gotten 6 bil) to Disney thinking he could have creative control...judging from
All his recent comments something happened after the sale that he has quipped about in the press. Disney said "ok...here's your money...bye"

I think Lucas got his underwear in a twist when everyone hated his prequels and decided he was done. I also agree that he thought Disney would let him have creative input. Thank goodness they told him to take his money and buh bye.

Well if they actually shot them then no doubt the deleted scenes will be on the blu-ray release which is where they belong rather than in the movie. Though I think some of them never even got shot.

I can't wait until 10 years from now when the new releases are made with new scenes and CGI additions that make scenes exactly what JJ always imagined they should have been. It'll be really great to see the movies with all these changes and live it again!

Apparently the majority were shot and a number of them actually have special effects and post production applied to them.

$32M Saturday opening in China. Puts it right about tied for 2nd in US openings. $33 is #2 so we'll see the final numbers. Furious 7 is number 1 at $68 M.

Jurassic earned 17M on way to $228M so if trends match Star Wars will finish north of $300 but south of $500 in China. $2 Billion is assured now. Unless something amazing happens $2.8Billion record is likely safe.
