The star wars spoiler thread

Do you mean currently? Or overall? Its over $800M domestic already.

And is the budget really $200M? I assume plus ads etc but still thought it was more.

Production budget is supposedly $200 million. Including worldwide marketing you're probably looking at more like $400 million but we'll never get an exact figure because Hollywood accounting is math from a different plane of existence and doesn't obey normal laws of physics.

...and for those that want the complete score that is being being used for award season judging...

Nice!

By any chance is the complete, typeset orchestral score out there somewhere as well? ;)

EDIT - unfortunately the vimeo compilation seems to be monaural whereas the individual clips at the Disney site are in stereo.

Not that I have seen. Disney did actually release some of the scores to some early movies with recording session notes. Maybe they will do the same at some point for TFA.

Mike, is there anyway to actually download this rather than streaming it?

I downloaded an mp3 from the vimeo clip using clipconverter.cc

It works great except for the annoying ad that pops up when it finishes converting to mp3 and you click on the "download" button. However the size was 125MB or so, and the sound quality is poor because it's in mono for some reason. I wish someone would re-do this in stereo sound!

Many Star Wars scores are "out there" and can be found/traded online among musicians ... not sure when/if TFA score will show up but for sure it will. Sometimes the conductor's marked-up score is available which is a really cool artifact of the actual recording session. It has scribbled notes about timings, tempos, highlighted solo passages, and comments about which takes are good/bad.

Finally Star Wars was beaten at the box office...

$25 million this weekend for a running domestic total of $1.8 billion.

However...that fertile "developing market" that Disney has strapped itself too - the collapsing 2,000,000,000 person tire fire known as China...isn't that impressive.

Such is modern Hollywood. Big numbers that crash quickly. I wonder if they could have done better? Not that they didn't in the end accomplish their goal.

Stupidity sells.

Star Wars is gonna have a tough time making more than $100-125 in China...

Furious 7? 400

no the 1.8 billion is world wide total not domestic
im still thinking it passes Titantic though

I think it will 'just' pass Titanic

Im sure Disney are thrilled how well it has done. They'll squeeze a couple more weeks out of it at the cinema and then there's the Disc release in April/May. Merchandise is probably still selling like crazy so when all said and done, it's done well and i'm sure they'll now focus on Rouge One.

Even without the movie star wars merchandise has always done well. The movie only increased that exponentially.

I loved the original 3 movies in the 70's and 80's but the newer ones I didn't like as much. As for this latest movie I thought that it really stunk. The whole meeting with Han Solo and son out on the narrow catwalk... like Luke and Vader was just re-hash of the old movie. The cantina scene with all the odd creatures another re-hash. Han Solo owned the spaceship for many years but acted like he didn't know how to make anything work was lame. Then the little british girl had to fix it for him. Then a stormtrooper who left the forces of evil because he wanted to do the right thing...yup, that's what he said. I remember the old star wars movies made me get behind the characters and go along for the ride with them. This movie did not do that. It just felt like a feel good cameo-fest. Just my opinion so don't rail on me. I just will not go to see another one.

I really liked almost all the acting...

But I feel that Disney was very disingenuous as to what it was...which was a pure reboot.

They knew it would lower the take...and dull the fever leading up...so they hid it. The "secrecy" was to hide the films reboot nature...not to protect against "spoilers"

I think that core older fanbase that they were desperately tying to get back for this after prequels - and largely did - are going to be far more critical of the next film. It needs to be a good, mostly original story...not another episode of scooby doo.
