don't know if this is thecorrect place for my question, but here it goes: has anyone been to The Somerset Collection in Troy, Michigan? It is an upscale type of mall, just north of Detroit. If so, is it worth an almost 4 hour drive?
TIA!

I really don't think so. We live right by that mall and usually will go to the others instead. It's very nice and has a lot of upscale stores, but I guess it would depend on what you were looking for. It's no different from what the other stores sell. JMOA.

I live right by there too - probably a mile at most but I don't think I would drive 4 hours just to see it. If you were here to go to a game or concert and had some time to kill then yes its nice and the south side is filled with Burberry, Coach, Louis Vuitton, Neiman Marcus, etc. but for us that is just window shopping.

Yeah, not worth a 4 hour drive unless you need something at a specific, very upscale store.

No, not worth the drive. It really isn't anything special, just a mall with a lot of "name" stores. We stop in from time to time when we're in the area because I love FAO Schwartz, but I wouldn't make a special trip from my house (about an hour away but still in the Detroit area) and I certainly wouldn't travel for it.

I like it a lot, but would not travel 4 hours for it. If you are in the area anyway I would definitely stop but no way is it a destination.

Totally agree w/ the PP. The only time we really head there now is if I need to hit up PBK (Pottery Barn Kids) or when DH needs to hit up Tiffany's, LOL!

Now that 12 Oaks has added on, there really isn't a need for Somerset for us anymore. Though I will say, we do prefer to holiday shop there, it's less packed!

When I lived there I went just for a nice atmosphere, but I didn't really spend too much while there.

I don't think it's a destination all it's own. I would wait until you could find something else to do in the area too.

I make a special trip :rotfl2: once or twice a year and I live 30 minutes away, if there's no rush hour traffic. There are some great stores there, but one thing I can't stand is that there are no good restaurants. There are 2 high end restaurants (think $50 pp and mostly businesspeople with clients) and a food court that really doesn't have much to choose from. I would think Chicago would be a much better bet if it isn't too much further for you.

Thanks for all the great responses- you can always count on the dis!
DH and I were thinking the same thing. Downtown Chicago is only 1 hr. and 45 minutes away. I think we'll hit it when we go to Windsor sometime.

You beat me to it...I live about 20 minutes north of Osceola and grew up four miles from Somerset. Definately not worth the drive. It is a VERY nice upscale mall, but unless you have a specific reason for going, then don't bother. You'd be much better off heading into Chicago.

hey neighbor! DH just found out, there is an Under Armour store in a mall in Aurora, which is a short drive from downtown Chicago.

I see you already made your decision, but I wanted to say I agree!! Not worth it. We live 30 mintues from there. The only time we go is to go to the Apple store. I find it a bit snooty for my taste! We were there at Christmastime one year and had to make an appointment to meet Santa. It was at 1:34. Who schedules Santa appointments ilke that!? We still laugh about that.

Enjoy Chicago!

FAO Schwartz is no longer there. And no I wouldn't drive to this mall either... I like Great Lakes Crossing better...
